1 Die Lade des Herrn blieb sieben Monate im Gebiet der Philister.	1 The ark of the LORD was in the country of the Philistines seven months.
2 Dann riefen die Philister ihre Priester und Wahrsager und fragten: "Was tun wir mit der Lade des Herrn? Laßt uns wissen, wie wir sie zurücksenden können, wo sie hingehört!"	2 And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners and said, "What shall we do with the ark of the LORD? Tell us with what we shall send it to its place."
3 Diese antworteten: "Gebt ihr die Lade des Gottes Israels zurück, dann dürft ihr sie nicht leer zurücksenden, sondern müßt eine Sühne leisten. Alsdann werdet ihr Heilung finden, und es wird euch kund, warum seine Hand nicht von euch weicht."	3 They said, "If you send away the ark of the God of Israel, do not send it empty, but by all means return him a guilt offering. Then you will be healed, and it will be known to you why his hand does not turn away from you."
4 Da fragten sie: "Welche Sühne sollen wir ihm denn leisten?" Sie entgegneten: "Entsprechend der Zahl der Philisterfürsten fünf goldene Beulen und fünf goldene Mäuse; denn dieselbe Heimsuchung traf euch alle und auch eure Fürsten.	4 And they said, "What is the guilt offering that we shall return to him?" They answered, "Five golden tumors and five golden mice, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines; for the same plague was upon all of you and upon your lords.
5 Fertigt also Bilder eurer Beulen an und Bilder der Mäuse, die das Land verheeren, und gebt dem Gott Israels die Ehre! Vielleicht wird er dann seine Hand leichter werden lassen über euch, euren Göttern und eurem Lande.	5 So you must make images of your tumors and images of your mice that ravage the land, and give glory to the God of Israel; perhaps he will lighten his hand from off you and your gods and your land.
6 Warum verhärtet ihr denn euer Herz, wie die Ägypter und der Pharao ihr Herz verhärteten? Mußte man sie nicht fortziehen lassen, als er ihnen arg mitspielte?	6 Why should you harden your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? After he had made sport of them, did not they let the people go, and they departed?
7 Nun wohlan, richtet einen neuen Wagen her und nehmt zwei säugende Kühe, auf denen noch kein Joch geruht hat; spannt die Kühe an den Wagen und treibt ihre Kälber von ihnen weg nach Hause!	7 Now then, take and prepare a new cart and two milch cows upon which there has never come a yoke, and yoke the cows to the cart, but take their calves home, away from them.
8 Dann nehmt die Lade des Herrn und stellt sie auf den Wagen! Die goldenen Gegenstände, die ihr ihm als Sühne erstatten wollt, legt in eine Satteltasche daneben und laßt sie dann davonziehen!	8 And take the ark of the LORD and place it on the cart, and put in a box at its side the figures of gold, which you are returning to him as a guilt offering. Then send it off, and let it go its way.
9 Seht dabei auf folgendes: Wenn die Lade nach Bet-Schemesch hinauf ihre Wegrichtung nach Hause nimmt, dann hat Israels Gott über uns dieses große Unheil gebracht; wenn nicht, so wissen wir, daß nicht seine Hand uns schlug, sondern daß uns nur ein Zufall getroffen hat."	9 And watch; if it goes up on the way to its own land, to Beth-shemesh, then it is he who has done us this great harm; but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that struck us, it happened to us by chance."
10 Die Männer taten so. Sie nahmen zwei säugende Kühe und spannten sie an den Wagen. Die Kälber hielten sie daheim zurück.	10 The men did so, and took two milch cows and yoked them to the cart, and shut up their calves at home.
11 Dann stellten sie die Lade des Herrn auf den Wagen, dazu die Satteltasche mit den goldenen Mäusen und mit den Abbildern ihrer Geschwüre.	11 And they put the ark of the LORD on the cart, and the box with the golden mice and the images of their tumors.
12 Die Kühe liefen in gerader Richtung nach Bet-Schemesch, genau die gleiche Richtung hielten sie ein und brüllten unaufhörlich. Sie wichen weder nach rechts noch nach links. Die Fürsten der Philister folgten hinter ihnen her bis zum Gebiet von Bet-Schemesch.	12 And the cows went straight in the direction of Beth-shemesh along one highway, lowing as they went; they turned neither to the right nor to the left, and the lords of the Philistines went after them as far as the border of Beth-shemesh.
13 Die Leute von Bet-Schemesch hielten gerade Weizenernte im Tal. Sie schauten auf, und als sie die Lade erblickten, gingen sie ihr freudig entgegen.	13 Now the people of Beth-shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley; and when they lifted up their eyes and saw the ark, they rejoiced to see it.
14 Der Wagen kam auf das Feld Josuas von Bet-Schemesch und blieb dort stehen. Hier lag ein großer Stein. Man spaltete das Holz des Wagens und brachte die Kühe als Brandopfer dem Herrn dar.	14 The cart came into the field of Joshua of Beth-shemesh, and stopped there. A great stone was there; and they split up the wood of the cart and offered the cows as a burnt offering to the LORD.
15 Die Leviten hoben die Lade des Herrn herunter und die Satteltasche neben ihr, in der die goldenen Gegenstände waren. Man stellte sie auf den großen Stein. Die Bewohner von Bet-Schemesch brachten an jenem Tage dem Herrn Brandopfer und Schlachtopfer dar.	15 And the Levites took down the ark of the LORD and the box that was beside it, in which were the golden figures, and set them upon the great stone; and the men of Beth-shemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices on that day to the LORD.
16 Die fünf Fürsten der Philister sahen zu und kehrten noch am gleichen Tage nach Ekron zurück.	16 And when the five lords of the Philistines saw it, they returned that day to Ekron.
17 Folgende sind die goldenen Geschwüre, welche die Philister als Sühne dem Herrn erstatteten: Eines für Asdod, eines für Gaza, eines für Askalon, eines für Gat und eines für Ekron,	17 These are the golden tumors, which the Philistines returned as a guilt offering to the LORD: one for Ashdod, one for Gaza, one for Ashkelon, one for Gath, one for Ekron;
18 und dazu die goldenen Mäuse, entsprechend der Gesamtzahl der Philisterstädte unter den fünf Fürsten, sowohl der festen Städte als auch der Dörfer des offenen Landes. Der große Stein, auf den man die Lade des Herrn gestellt hatte, liegt noch bis heute auf dem Felde Josuas von Bet-Schemesch.	18 also the golden mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords, both fortified cities and unwalled villages. The great stone, beside which they set down the ark of the LORD, is a witness to this day in the field of Joshua of Beth-shemesh.
19 Der Herr aber schlug die Einwohner von Bet-Schemesch, weil sie die Lade des Herrn angeschaut hatten. Er schlug vom Volke siebzig Mann. Nun wurde das Volk sehr betrübt, weil der Herr einen schweren Schlag wider die Leute geführt hatte.	19 And he slew some of the men of Beth-shemesh, because they looked into the ark of the LORD; he slew seventy men of them, and the people mourned because the LORD had made a great slaughter among the people.
20 Da sagten die Einwohner von Bet-Schemesch: "Wer vermag vor dem Angesicht des Herrn, dieses heiligen Gottes, standzuhalten? Zu wem soll er von uns aus ziehen?"	20 Then the men of Beth-shemesh said, "Who is able to stand before the LORD, this holy God? And to whom shall he go up away from us?"
21 Sie sandten Boten zu den Bewohnern von Kirjat-Jearim und ließen sagen: "Die Philister haben die Lade des Herrn zurückerstattet. Kommt herab und holt sie zu euch hinauf!"	21 So they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kiriath-jearim, saying, "The Philistines have returned the ark of the LORD. Come down and take it up to you."
