1 Da erhob sich die ganze Gemeinde. Sie schrieen, und das Volk weinte die ganze Nacht hindurch.	1 And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.
2 Die Israeliten murrten insgesamt wider Moses und Aaron. Die ganze Gemeinde sprach zu ihnen: "Wären wir doch in Ägypten gestorben oder in dieser Wüste! O wären wir tot!	2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!
3 Warum will der Herr uns in dieses Land bringen? Damit wir etwa durch das Schwert fallen? Unsere Frauen und Kinder sollen Feindesbeute werden! Wäre es nicht besser für uns, nach Ägypten zurückzukehren?"	3 And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?
4 Sie sprachen zueinander: "Wir wollen darauf bestehen und nach Ägypten umkehren!"	4 And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.
5 Moses und Aaron fielen vor der ganzen versammelten Gemeinde der Israeliten auf ihr Antlitz.	5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
6 Josua, der Sohn Nuns, und Kaleb, der Sohn Jephunnes, die bei den Kundschaftern des Landes waren, zerrissen ihre Kleider.	6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:
7 Sie sprachen zur ganzen Gemeinde der Israeliten: "Das Land, das wir durchzogen, um es auszukundschaften, ist ein überaus fruchtbares Land.	7 And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.
8 Wenn der Herr uns zugetan ist, so bringt er uns in dieses Gebiet und verleiht uns dieses Land, das von Milch und Honig überfließt.	8 If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.
9 Nur zeigt euch nicht störrisch wider den Herrn! Fürchtet nicht die Bewohner des Landes; wir werden sie verschlingen. Ihr Schutz ist von ihnen gewichen; mit uns aber ist der Herr! Fürchtet euch nicht vor ihnen!"	9 Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.
10 Bringe zum Trankopfer ein halbes Hin Wein dar; das sei ein Feueropfer lieblichen Wohlgeruchs für den Herrn.	10 But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.
11 Der Herr sprach zu Moses: "Wie lange noch sollen diese Leute mich verhöhnen? Wie lange noch werden sie ungläubig sein trotz der Zeichen, die ich in ihrer Mitte getan habe?	11 And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?
12 Ich will sie mit der Pest schlagen, ich will sie hinwegtilgen und dich zu einem Volk machen, das größer und stärker ist als dieses."	12 I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.
13 Moses erwiderte dem Herrn: "Die Ägypter haben vernommen, daß du dieses Volk in deiner Macht aus ihrer Mitte hinweggeführt hast.	13 And Moses said unto the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;)
14 Sie teilten es den Bewohnern dieses Landes mit. Man vernahm, daß du, Herr, inmitten dieses Volkes bist, der sich ihnen Auge in Auge geoffenbart hat, du, der Herr! Deine Wolke steht über ihnen; am Tage ziehst du in der Wolkensäule und nachts in der Feuersäule vor ihnen einher.	14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou LORD art among this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.
15 Tötest du dieses Volk wie einen Mann, dann werden die Völker, die von dir Kunde vernahmen, sagen:	15 Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,
16 Nur weil er außerstande war, dies Volk in das Land zu bringen, das er ihnen eidlich versprach, hat er es in der Wüste getötet!	16 Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.
17 Möchte sich doch nunmehr die Kraft des Herrn groß erzeigen, wie du verheißen hast:	17 And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,
18 Der Herr ist langmütig und reich an Huld, er vergibt Schuld und Frevel, aber er läßt nicht ganz ungestraft; er prüft die Schuld der Väter an den Kindern nach bis ins dritte und vierte Geschlecht.	18 The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.
19 Vergib also die Schuld dieses Volkes nach der Größe deiner Huld und so, wie du diesem Volke von Ägypten an bis jetzt vergeben hast!"	19 Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.
20 Der Herr sprach: "Ich vergebe, wie du es erbeten hast!	20 And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word:
21 Aber so wahr ich lebe, und so wahr des Herrn Majestät die ganze Erde erfüllt,	21 But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.
22 all die Männer, die meine Herrlichkeit geschaut und die Wunder gesehen haben, die ich in Ägypten und in der Wüste gewirkt habe, und mich dennoch zehnmal versucht und auf meine Stimme nicht gehört haben,	22 Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;
23 sollen nie das Land, das ich ihren Vätern eidlich zugesagt habe, schauen; auch alle, die mich schmähten, werden es nicht schauen.	23 Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:
24 Nur meinen Knecht Kaleb will ich, weil ihn ein anderer Geist beseelte und er mir voll gehorsam war, in das Land bringen, das er schon betrat; seine Nachkommen sollen es erben.	24 But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.
25 Aber in der Niederung bleibt der Amalekiter und Kanaaniter wohnen. Kehrt morgen um und zieht in die Wüste in der Richtung nach dem Schilfmeer!"	25 (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) To morrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.
26 Der Herr sprach zu Moses und Aaron:	26 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
27 "Wie lange noch soll es mit dieser bösartigen Gemeinde dauern, daß sie wider mich murren? Das Murren der Israeliten wider mich habe ich gehört.	27 How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.
28 Sage zu ihnen: So wahr ich lebe, spricht der Herr, genauso, wie ihr es vor meinen Ohren ausgesprochen habt, will ich an euch handeln.	28 Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:
29 In dieser Wüste werden eure Leiber fallen, und zwar alle von euch, die gemustert wurden, die ganze Zahl von zwanzig Jahren an und darüber, da ihr wider mich gemurrt habt!	29 Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me,
30 Von euch soll keiner in das Land kommen, das ich euch mit erhobener Hand als Wohnsitz versprochen habe, außer Kaleb, der Sohn Jephunnes, und Josua, der Sohn Nuns.	30 Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
31 Eure Kleinkinder hingegen, von denen ihr gesagt habt, daß sie Feindesbeute werden, bringe ich hinein, und sie werden das Land erben, das ihr verschmäht habt.	31 But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.
32 Eure eigenen Leiber sollen in dieser Wüste fallen.	32 But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.
33 Eure Söhne aber werden vierzig Jahre lang in der Wüste als Hirten leben und so euren Abfall büßen, bis eure Leiber in der Wüste verfallen sind.	33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.
34 Gemäß der Zahl der vierzig Tage, die ihr gebraucht habt, um das Land auszukundschaften - jeden Tag für ein Jahr gerechnet - sollt ihr vierzig Jahre lang für eure Verschuldungen Buße tun! Ihr sollt meine Gegnerschaft kennenlernen!	34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.
35 Ich, der Herr, habe gesprochen: Fürwahr, so will ich handeln mit dieser ganzen bösartigen Gemeinde, die sich wider mich zusammengerottet hat; in dieser Wüste sollen sie alle umkommen und sterben!"	35 I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.
36 Die Männer aber, die Moses zum Auskundschaften des Landes gesandt hatte, und die nach ihrer Rückkehr die ganze Gemeinde wider ihn zum Murren reizten, indem sie falsche Gerüchte über das Land in Umlauf brachten,	36 And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,
37 diese Männer, die üble Dinge über das Land in Umlauf brachten, starben vor dem Herrn eines schlagartigen Todes.	37 Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.
38 Nur Josua, der Sohn Nuns, und Kaleb, der Sohn Jephunnes, blieben von den Männern, die zur Erkundung des Landes ausgezogen waren, am Leben.	38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.
39 Moses teilte den Israeliten diese Worte mit. Darob wurde das Volk sehr traurig.	39 And Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.
40 In der Frühe des anderen Morgens machten sie Anstalten, auf die Gebirgshöhe hinaufzuziehen. Sie sagten: "Wir sind bereit, zu jenem Ort hinaufzuziehen, von dem der Herr redete, denn wir haben uns vergangen!"	40 And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the LORD hath promised: for we have sinned.
41 Moses entgegnete: "Warum wollt ihr dem Befehl des Herrn zuwiderhandeln? Es wird nicht gelingen!	41 And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the LORD? but it shall not prosper.
42 Zieht nicht hinauf! Denn der Herr ist nicht in eurer Mitte! Sonst werdet ihr im Angesicht eurer Feinde eine Niederlage erleiden!	42 Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies.
43 Denn die Amalekiter und Kanaaniter stehen euch dort gegenüber; durchs Schwert werdet ihr fallen! Ihr habt euch ja vom Herrn abgewendet, deshalb wird der Herr nicht mit euch sein!"	43 For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.
44 Sie aber versteiften sich hartnäckig, auf die Gebirgshöhe zu ziehen. Doch die Bundeslade des Herrn und Moses wichen nicht vom Lager.	44 But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.
45 []	45 Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah.
