1 Aufs neue entbrannte der Zorn des Herrn wider Israel. Er reizte David gegen es auf und sprach: "Gehe hin, zähle die Israeliten und Judäer!"	1 Again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying, "Go, number Israel and Judah."
2 Der König befahl Joab und den Feldherrn seines Heeres: "Geht alle Stämme Israels durch von Dan bis Beerseba und zählt das Volk! Ich will die Zahl des Volkes wissen."	2 So the king said to Joab and the commanders of the army, who were with him, "Go through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan to Beer-sheba, and number the people, that I may know the number of the people."
3 Joab entgegnete dem König: "Möge der Herr, dein Gott, dem Volk, so wie es ist, das Hundertfache hinzufügen, und mögen die Augen meines Herrn und Königs es sehen! Doch warum verlangt mein Herr und König derartige Dinge?"	3 But Joab said to the king, "May the LORD your God add to the people a hundred times as many as they are, while the eyes of my lord the king still see it; but why does my lord the king delight in this thing?"
4 Doch der Befehl des Königs nötigte Joab und die Heerführer. Joab ging also mit den Heerführern vom König weg, um das Volk Israel zu zählen.	4 But the king's word prevailed against Joab and the commanders of the army. So Joab and the commanders of the army went out from the presence of the king to number the people of Israel.
5 Sie überschritten den Jordan und begannen mit Aroer und mit der Stadt, die im Tal liegt, in der Richtung nach Gad und Jaser;	5 They crossed the Jordan, and began from Aroer, and from the city that is in the middle of the valley, toward Gad and on to Jazer.
6 sie erreichten dann Gilead und das Land der Hethiter in Richtung Kadesch und gelangten nach Dan, Ijjon und in das Gebiet um Sidon herum.	6 Then they came to Gilead, and to Kadesh in the land of the Hittites; and they came to Dan, and from Dan they went around to Sidon,
7 Sie gingen zur Festung Tyrus und in alle Städte der Hiwwiter und Kanaaniter. Sie kamen dann in das Südland von Juda, nach Beerseba.	7 and came to the fortress of Tyre and to all the cities of the Hivites and Canaanites; and they went out to the Negeb of Judah at Beer-sheba.
8 So durchstreiften sie das ganze Land und kamen nach neun Monaten und zwanzig Tagen nach Jerusalem zurück.	8 So when they had gone through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.
9 Joab berichtete das Ergebnis der Volkszählung dem König. Israel hatte 800 000 Krieger, die das Schwert trugen, und Juda 500 000.	9 And Joab gave the sum of the numbering of the people to the king: in Israel there were eight hundred thousand valiant men who drew the sword, and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand.
10 Danach aber schlug dem David das Gewissen, weil er das Volk gezählt hatte, und er betete zum Herrn: "Ich habe schwer gesündigt, daß ich solches tat. Nun, Herr, entferne die Schuld deines Knechtes; denn überaus töricht habe ich gehandelt!"	10 But David's heart smote him after he had numbered the people. And David said to the LORD, "I have sinned greatly in what I have done. But now, O LORD, I pray thee, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly."
11 Als David am Morgen aufstand, war das Wort des Herrn an den Propheten Gad, den Seher Davids, ergangen:	11 And when David arose in the morning, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying,
12 "Gehe hin und sage zu David: So spricht der Herr: Drei Dinge lege ich dir vor. Wähle dir eines davon. daß ich es dir antue!"	12 "Go and say to David, 'Thus says the LORD, Three things I offer you; choose one of them, that I may do it to you."
13 Gad kam zu David und richtete die Botschaft an ihn aus. Er sprach zu ihm: "Soll drei Jahre hindurch Hungersnot in deinem Land wüten, oder willst du drei Monate lang vor deinen Feinden fliehen, während sie dich verfolgen, oder soll drei Tage lang die Pest in deinem Lande wüten? Überlege nun und sieh zu, welche Antwort ich dem bringen soll, der mich sendet!"	13 So Gad came to David and told him, and said to him, "Shall three years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days' pestilence in your land? Now consider, and decide what answer I shall return to him who sent me."
14 David entgegnete Gad: "Ich bin in großer Bedrängnis. Doch lieber wollen wir in die Hand des Herrn fallen, weil seine Barmherzigkeit groß ist; aber in die Hand von Menschen möchte ich nicht fallen!"	14 Then David said to Gad, "I am in great distress; let us fall into the hand of the LORD, for his mercy is great; but let me not fall into the hand of man."
15 So ließ der Herr eine Pest in Israel vom Morgen bis zur Zeit des Abendessens wüten. Es starben aus dem Volk von Dan bis Beerseba 70 000 Mann.	15 So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning until the appointed time; and there died of the people from Dan to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men.
16 Der Herr hatte einen Engel nach Jerusalem entsandt, um es zu verderben. Es ließ sich aber der Herr des Unheils gereuen, und er befahl dem Engel, der die Verheerung anrichtete: "Es ist genug. Ziehe deine Hand zurück!" Der Engel des Herrn befand sich gerade bei der Tenne des Jebusiters Orna.	16 And when the angel stretched forth his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented of the evil, and said to the angel who was working destruction among the people, "It is enough; now stay your hand." And the angel of the LORD was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
17 David aber rief zum Herrn, als er den Engel erblickte, der das Volk schlug: "Siehe, ich habe gesündigt! Ich, der Hirte, habe Unrecht begangen! Diese aber, die Herde, was haben sie verbrochen? Deine Hand laste auf mir und meiner Familie."	17 Then David spoke to the LORD when he saw the angel who was smiting the people, and said, "Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? Let thy hand, I pray thee, be against me and against my father's house."
18 An jenem Tage kam Gad zu David und sprach zu ihm: "Gehe hinauf und errichte dem Herrn einen Altar auf der Tenne des Jebusiters Orna!"	18 And Gad came that day to David, and said to him, "Go up, rear an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite."
19 David ging nach Gads Weisung hinauf, wie der Herr befohlen hatte.	19 So David went up at Gad's word, as the LORD commanded.
20 Orna blickte hin und sah den König mit seinen Knechten auf sich zukommen. Er trat heraus und verneigte sich vor dem König mit dem Antlitz zur Erde.	20 And when Araunah looked down, he saw the king and his servants coming on toward him; and Araunah went forth, and did obeisance to the king with his face to the ground.
21 Orna fragte: "Warum kommt mein Herr und König zu seinem Knechte?" David gab zur Antwort: "Um deine Tenne zu erwerben. Ich will dem Herrn einen Altar bauen, damit die Plage im Volk zum Stillstand gebracht werde."	21 And Araunah said, "Why has my lord the king come to his servant?" David said, "To buy the threshing floor of you, in order to build an altar to the LORD, that the plague may be averted from the people."
22 Orna sprach zu David: "Mein Herr und König nehme und opfere, was ihn gutdünkt! Siehe, hier sind die Rinder für das Brandopfer, und hier die Dreschbretter und das Rindergeschirr als Opferholz!	22 Then Araunah said to David, "Let my lord the king take and offer up what seems good to him; here are the oxen for the burnt offering, and the threshing sledges and the yokes of the oxen for the wood.
23 Das alles, mein König, schenkt Orna dem König!" Weiterhin sprach Orna zum König: "Der Herr, dein Gott, sei dir gut!"	23 All this, O king, Araunah gives to the king." And Araunah said to the king, "The LORD your God accept you."
24 Da erwiderte aber der König dem Orna: "Nicht so! Um einen festgesetzten Preis will ich sie von dir erwerben. Ich kann dem Herrn, meinem Gott, nicht geschenkte Brandopfer darbringen." David erwarb die Tenne und die Rinder um fünfzig Sekel Silber.	24 But the king said to Araunah, "No, but I will buy it of you for a price; I will not offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God which cost me nothing." So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
25 Und David erbaute dort einen Altar für den Herrn und brachte Brand- und Friedopfer dar. Der Herr söhnte sich wieder mit dem Land aus, und der Plage in Israel ward Einhalt geboten.	25 And David built there an altar to the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD heeded supplications for the land, and the plague was averted from Israel.
