Deuteronomy 14

1 "You are children of the LORD, your God. You shall not gash yourselves nor shave the hair above your foreheads for the dead.	1 Voi siete figli per il Signore vostro Dio. Non vi farete incisioni, né vi raderete tra gli occhi per un morto.
2 For you are a people sacred to the LORD, your God, who has chosen you from all the nations on the face of the earth to be a people peculiarly his own.	2 Perché tu sei un popolo santo per il Signore tuo Dio, il quale ti ha scelto fra tutti i popoli che sono sulla faccia della terra, affinché sia un popolo particolarmente suo.
3 "You shall not eat any abominable thing.	3 Non mangerete nessuna abominazione.
4 These are the animals you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat,	4 Questi sono gli animali che mangerete: bue, pecora, capra,
5 the red deer, the gazelle, the roe deer, the ibex, the addax, the oryx, and the mountain sheep.	5 cervo, gazzella, daino, stambecco, antilope, bufalo, camoscio;
6 Any animal that has hoofs you may eat, provided it is cloven-footed and chews the cud.	6 mangerete ogni animale che ha lo zoccolo spaccato e diviso in due unghie, e che rumina.
7 But you shall not eat any of the following that only chew the cud or only have cloven hoofs: the camel, the hare and the rock badger, which indeed chew the cud, but do not have hoofs and are therefore unclean for you;	7 Ma fra i ruminanti e tra quelli che hanno lo zoccolo spaccato e diviso, non mangerete il cammello, la lepre e l'irace, perché ruminano ma non hanno lo zoccolo spaccato. Per voi essi sono animali impuri.
8 and the pig, which indeed has hoofs and is cloven-footed, but does not chew the cud and is therefore unclean for you. Their flesh you shall not eat, and their dead bodies you shall not touch.	8 Anche il porco che, sebbene abbia lo zoccolo spaccato, non rumina, per voi è impuro. Non mangerete le loro carni e non toccherete i loro cadaveri.
9 "Of the various creatures that live in the water, whatever has both fins and scales you may eat,	9 Tra tutti gli esseri che sono nell'acqua, mangerete di tutti quelli che hanno pinne e squame;
10 but all those that lack either fins or scales you shall not eat; they are unclean for you.	10 ma non mangerete nessuno di quelli che non hanno pinne né squame. Per voi essi sono impuri.
11 "You may eat all clean birds.	11 Mangerete di ogni specie di uccelli puri,
12 But you shall not eat any of the following: the eagle, the vulture, the osprey,	12 ma non mangerete di queste specie: l'aquila, l'ossifraga, la strige,
13 the various kites and falcons,	13 il nibbio e ogni specie di astori;
14 all the various species of crows,	14 ogni specie di corvi;
15 the ostrich, the nightjar, the gull, the various species of hawks,	15 lo struzzo, la civetta, il gabbiano, tutti gli sparvieri,
16 the owl, the screech owl, the ibis,	16 il gufo, l'ibis, il cigno,
17 the desert owl, the buzzard, the cormorant,	17 il pellicano, il martin pescatore, la folaga,
18 the stork, the various species of herons, the hoopoe, and the bat.	18 la cicogna, le varie specie di aironi, l'upupa, il pipistrello.
19 All winged insects, too, are unclean for you and shall not be eaten.	19 Considererete immondi gli insetti alati: non ne mangerete.
20 But you may eat any clean winged creatures.	20 Mangerete ogni volatile puro.
21 "You must not eat any animal that has died of itself, for you are a people sacred to the LORD, your God. But you may give it to an alien who belongs to your community, and he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner. "You shall not boil a kid in its mother's milk.	21 Non mangerete di alcun animale che sia morto di morte naturale: lo darai al forestiero che è tra le tue porte ed egli lo mangerà, o lo venderai a uno straniero, perché tu sei un popolo santo per il Signore tuo Dio. Non farai cuocere un capretto nel latte di sua madre.
22 "Each year you shall tithe all the produce that grows in the field you have sown;	22 Prenderai la decima di ogni prodotto della tua semente che cresce nei campi, ogni anno,
23 then in the place which the LORD, your God, chooses as the dwelling place of his name you shall eat in his presence your tithe of the grain, wine and oil, as well as the firstlings of your herd and flock, that you may learn always to fear the LORD, your God.	23 e la mangerai al cospetto del Signore tuo Dio nel luogo nel quale sceglierà di far dimorare il suo nome: la decima del tuo frumento, del tuo mosto, del tuo olio, i primogeniti del tuo bestiame grosso e minuto, affinché tu impari a temere il Signore tuo Dio ogni giorno.
24 If, however, the journey is too much for you and you are not able to bring your tithe, because the place which the LORD, your God, chooses for the abode of his name is too far for you, considering how the LORD has blessed you,	24 Se troppo lungo è per te il cammino e tu non puoi trasportare la decima, perché è troppo distante da te il luogo dove il Signore tuo Dio ha scelto di porre il suo nome, perché il Signore tuo Dio ti avrà benedetto,
25 you may exchange the tithe for money and, with the purse of money in hand, go to the place which the LORD, your God, chooses.	25 la cambierai in denaro, stringerai il denaro nella mano e andrai al luogo scelto dal Signore tuo Dio
26 You may then exchange the money for whatever you desire, oxen or sheep, wine or strong drink, or anything else you would enjoy, and there before the LORD, your God, you shall partake of it and make merry with your family.	26 e là cambierai il denaro in tutto ciò che tu desideri: in bestiame grosso o minuto, in vino, in bevanda inebriante e in quanto richiede la tua gola, lo mangerai là al cospetto del Signore tuo Dio e ti rallegrerai tu e la tua casa.
27 But do not neglect the Levite who belongs to your community, for he has no share in the heritage with you.	27 Il levita che è fra le tue porte non lo trascurare, perché non ha né parte né eredità con te.
28 "At the end of every third year you shall bring out all the tithes of your produce for that year and deposit them in community stores,	28 Al termine di tre anni porterai ogni decima dei tuoi prodotti e la deporrai alle porte della tua città:
29 that the Levite who has no share in the heritage with you, and also the alien, the orphan and the widow who belong to your community, may come and eat their fill; so that the LORD, your God, may bless you in all that you undertake.	29 verranno il levita, che non ha né parte né eredità con te, il forestiero, l'orfano e la vedova che si trovano entro le tue porte, ne mangeranno e si sazieranno. Perché il Signore tuo Dio ti benedica in ogni opera delle tue mani, che tu farai.
