1 "You are children of the LORD, your God. You shall not gash yourselves nor shave the hair above your foreheads for the dead.	1 Vous êtes des fils pour Yahvé votre Dieu. Vous ne vous ferez pas d’incisions ni de tonsures sur le front pour un mort.
2 For you are a people sacred to the LORD, your God, who has chosen you from all the nations on the face of the earth to be a people peculiarly his own.	2 Tu es un peuple saint pour Yahvé ton Dieu, il t’a choisi pour que tu sois son peuple au milieu de tous les peuples de la terre.
3 "You shall not eat any abominable thing.	3 Tu ne mangeras rien d’abominable.
4 These are the animals you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat,	4 Voici les animaux que vous pourrez manger: le bœuf, le mouton, la chèvre,
5 the red deer, the gazelle, the roe deer, the ibex, the addax, the oryx, and the mountain sheep.	5 le cerf, la gazelle, le daim, la chèvre de Nubie, l’antilope, le bœuf sauvage et la chèvre sauvage.
6 Any animal that has hoofs you may eat, provided it is cloven-footed and chews the cud.	6 Vous mangerez de tout animal qui a le sabot divisé, le pied fourchu, et qui rumine;
7 But you shall not eat any of the following that only chew the cud or only have cloven hoofs: the camel, the hare and the rock badger, which indeed chew the cud, but do not have hoofs and are therefore unclean for you;	7 mais vous ne mangerez pas ceux qui ruminent seulement ou qui ont seulement le sabot divisé, le pied fourchu. Ainsi vous ne mangerez pas le chameau, le lièvre et le lapin qui ruminent mais qui n’ont pas le sabot divisé. Ils seront impurs à vos yeux.
8 and the pig, which indeed has hoofs and is cloven-footed, but does not chew the cud and is therefore unclean for you. Their flesh you shall not eat, and their dead bodies you shall not touch.	8 C’est encore le cas pour le porc qui a le sabot divisé mais qui ne rumine pas: il sera impur à vos yeux. Vous ne mangerez pas de leur chair et vous ne toucherez pas leur cadavre.
9 "Of the various creatures that live in the water, whatever has both fins and scales you may eat,	9 Parmi tous les êtres qui vivent dans l’eau, vous pourrez manger ceux qui ont nageoires et écailles.
10 but all those that lack either fins or scales you shall not eat; they are unclean for you.	10 Mais vous ne mangerez pas de ceux qui n’ont ni nageoires ni écailles: ils seront impurs à vos yeux.
11 "You may eat all clean birds.	11 Vous pourrez manger tous les oiseaux purs.
12 But you shall not eat any of the following: the eagle, the vulture, the osprey,	12 Voici ceux que vous ne mangerez pas: l’aigle, la buse et le vautour,
13 the various kites and falcons,	13 le faucon, le milan et toute espèce de rapaces,
14 all the various species of crows,	14 toute espèce de corbeaux,
15 the ostrich, the nightjar, the gull, the various species of hawks,	15 l’autruche, le hibou, la mouette et toute espèce d’éperviers,
16 the owl, the screech owl, the ibis,	16 le chat-huant, l’ibis et la chouette,
17 the desert owl, the buzzard, the cormorant,	17 le pélican, le cygne et le cormoran,
18 the stork, the various species of herons, the hoopoe, and the bat.	18 la cigogne, le héron de toute espèce, la huppe et la chauve-souris.
19 All winged insects, too, are unclean for you and shall not be eaten.	19 Tous les insectes ailés seront impurs à vos yeux,
20 But you may eat any clean winged creatures.	20 mais de tout oiseau pur vous pourrez manger.
21 "You must not eat any animal that has died of itself, for you are a people sacred to the LORD, your God. But you may give it to an alien who belongs to your community, and he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner. "You shall not boil a kid in its mother's milk.	21 Tu ne mangeras d’aucune bête morte, mais tu pourras la donner à l’étranger qui habite au milieu de toi: il la mangera ou la vendra à un autre étranger. Mais toi, tu es un peuple saint pour Yahvé ton Dieu. Tu ne feras pas cuire un chevreau dans le lait de sa mère.
22 "Each year you shall tithe all the produce that grows in the field you have sown;	22 Tu prélèveras chaque année la dîme sur le produit de ce que tu auras semé, sur le produit de tes champs.
23 then in the place which the LORD, your God, chooses as the dwelling place of his name you shall eat in his presence your tithe of the grain, wine and oil, as well as the firstlings of your herd and flock, that you may learn always to fear the LORD, your God.	23 Tu mangeras devant Yahvé ton Dieu, dans le lieu qu’il aura choisi pour y faire habiter son Nom, la dîme de ton blé, de ton vin et de ton huile, ainsi que les premiers-nés de la vache et de la brebis. Ainsi tu apprendras à garder toujours la crainte de Yahvé, ton Dieu.
24 If, however, the journey is too much for you and you are not able to bring your tithe, because the place which the LORD, your God, chooses for the abode of his name is too far for you, considering how the LORD has blessed you,	24 Cependant, lorsque Yahvé ton Dieu t’aura béni, si le lieu qu’il a choisi pour y faire habiter son Nom est trop éloigné et que le chemin est trop long pour toi,
25 you may exchange the tithe for money and, with the purse of money in hand, go to the place which the LORD, your God, chooses.	25 tu échangeras ta dîme contre de l’argent, tu prendras l’argent sur toi et tu te rendras au lieu que Yahvé ton Dieu aura choisi.
26 You may then exchange the money for whatever you desire, oxen or sheep, wine or strong drink, or anything else you would enjoy, and there before the LORD, your God, you shall partake of it and make merry with your family.	26 Là, avec ton argent, tu achèteras tout ce que tu voudras: des bœufs, des brebis, du vin, des liqueurs fermentées, en un mot, tout ce que tu voudras, et tu le mangeras là devant Yahvé ton Dieu. Tu feras la fête, toi et ta famille,
27 But do not neglect the Levite who belongs to your community, for he has no share in the heritage with you.	27 sans oublier le Lévite qui habite au milieu de toi, car il n’a ni part ni héritage avec toi.
28 "At the end of every third year you shall bring out all the tithes of your produce for that year and deposit them in community stores,	28 Tous les trois ans, tu mettras de côté, toute la dîme de tes récoltes de l’année et tu la garderas dans ta cité.
29 that the Levite who has no share in the heritage with you, and also the alien, the orphan and the widow who belong to your community, may come and eat their fill; so that the LORD, your God, may bless you in all that you undertake.	29 Alors le Lévite qui n’a ni part ni héritage avec toi, l’étranger, l’orphelin et la veuve qui habitent au milieu de toi viendront, ils mangeront et seront comblés. Ainsi Yahvé ton Dieu te bénira dans tout ce que tu entreprendras.
