For the leader; with stringed instruments, "upon the eighth." A psalm of David. | 1 In parts according to verses. A Psalm of David. For the octave. |
Do not reprove me in your anger, LORD, nor punish me in your wrath. | 2 O Lord, do not rebuke me in your fury, nor chastise me in your anger. |
Have pity on me, LORD, for I am weak; heal me, LORD, for my bones are trembling. | 3 Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am weak. Heal me, Lord, for my bones have become disturbed, |
In utter terror is my soul-- and you, LORD, how long...? | 4 and my soul has been very troubled. But as for you, Lord, when? |
Turn, LORD, save my life; in your mercy rescue me. | 5 Turn to me, Lord, and rescue my soul. Save me because of your mercy. |
For who among the dead remembers you? Who praises you in Sheol? | 6 For there is no one in death who would be mindful of you. And who will confess to you in Hell? |
I am wearied with sighing; all night long tears drench my bed; my couch is soaked with weeping. | 7 I have labored in my groaning. Every night, with my tears, I will wash my bed and drench my blanket. |
My eyes are dimmed with sorrow, worn out because of all my foes. | 8 My eye has been troubled by rage. I have grown old among all my enemies. |
Away from me, all who do evil! The LORD has heard my weeping. | 9 Scatter before me, all you who work iniquity, for the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping. |
The LORD has heard my prayer; the LORD takes up my plea. | 10 The Lord has heard my supplication. The Lord has accepted my prayer. |
My foes will be terrified and disgraced; all will fall back in sudden shame. | 11 Let all my enemies be ashamed and together be greatly troubled. May they be converted and become ashamed very quickly. |
