μετα δε το παυσασθαι ελιουν της λεξεως ειπεν ο κυριος τω ιωβ δια λαιλαπος και νεφων | 1 Then the Lord answered Job out of a whirlwind, and said : |
τις ουτος ο κρυπτων με βουλην συνεχων δε ρηματα εν καρδια εμε δε οιεται κρυπτειν | 2 Who is this that wrappeth up sentences in unskillful words? |
ζωσαι ωσπερ ανηρ την οσφυν σου ερωτησω δε σε συ δε μοι αποκριθητι | 3 Gird up thy loins like a man : I will ask thee, and answer thou me. |
που ης εν τω θεμελιουν με την γην απαγγειλον δε μοι ει επιστη συνεσιν | 4 Where wast thou when I laid up the foundations of the earth ? tell me if thou hast understanding. |
τις εθετο τα μετρα αυτης ει οιδας η τις ο επαγαγων σπαρτιον επ' αυτης | 5 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? |
επι τινος οι κρικοι αυτης πεπηγασιν τις δε εστιν ο βαλων λιθον γωνιαιον επ' αυτης | 6 Upon what are its bases grounded? or who laid the corner stone thereof, |
οτε εγενηθησαν αστρα ηνεσαν με φωνη μεγαλη παντες αγγελοι μου | 7 When the morning stars praised me together, and all the sons of God made a joyful melody? |
εφραξα δε θαλασσαν πυλαις οτε εμαιμασσεν εκ κοιλιας μητρος αυτης εκπορευομενη | 8 Who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke forth as issuing out of the womb : |
εθεμην δε αυτη νεφος αμφιασιν ομιχλη δε αυτην εσπαργανωσα | 9 when I made a cloud the garment thereof, and wrapped it in a mist as in swaddling bands? |
εθεμην δε αυτη ορια περιθεις κλειθρα και πυλας | 10 I set my bounds around it, and made it bars and doors : |
ειπα δε αυτη μεχρι τουτου ελευση και ουχ υπερβηση αλλ' εν σεαυτη συντριβησεται σου τα κυματα | 11 And I said : Hitherto thou shalt come, and shalt go no further, and here thou shalt break thy swelling waves. |
η επι σου συντεταχα φεγγος πρωινον εωσφορος δε ειδεν την εαυτου ταξιν | 12 Didst thou since thy birth command the morning, and shew the dawning of the day its place? |
επιλαβεσθαι πτερυγων γης εκτιναξαι ασεβεις εξ αυτης | 13 And didst thou hold the extremities of the earth shaking them, and hast thou shaken the ungodly out of it? |
η συ λαβων γην πηλον επλασας ζωον και λαλητον αυτον εθου επι γης | 14 The seal shall be restored as clay, and shall stand as a garment : |
αφειλας δε απο ασεβων το φως βραχιονα δε υπερηφανων συνετριψας | 15 From the wicked their light shall be taken away, and the high arm shall be broken. |
ηλθες δε επι πηγην θαλασσης εν δε ιχνεσιν αβυσσου περιεπατησας | 16 Hast thou entered into the depths of the sea, and walked in the lowest parts of the deep? |
ανοιγονται δε σοι φοβω πυλαι θανατου πυλωροι δε αδου ιδοντες σε επτηξαν | 17 Have the gates of death been opened to thee, and hast thou seen the darksome doors? |
νενουθετησαι δε το ευρος της υπ' ουρανον αναγγειλον δη μοι ποση τις εστιν | 18 Hast thou considered the breadth of the earth? tell me, if thou knowest all things? |
ποια δε γη αυλιζεται το φως σκοτους δε ποιος ο τοπος | 19 Where is the way where light dwelleth, and where is the place of darkness : |
ει αγαγοις με εις ορια αυτων ει δε και επιστασαι τριβους αυτων | 20 That thou mayst bring every thing to its own bounds, and understand the paths of the house thereof. |
οιδα αρα οτι τοτε γεγεννησαι αριθμος δε ετων σου πολυς | 21 Didst thou know then that thou shouldst be born ? and didst thou know the number of thy days? |
ηλθες δε επι θησαυρους χιονος θησαυρους δε χαλαζης εορακας | 22 Hast thou entered into the storehouses of the snow, or has thou beheld the treasures of the hail : |
αποκειται δε σοι εις ωραν εχθρων εις ημεραν πολεμου και μαχης | 23 Which I have prepared for the time of the enemy, against the day of battle and war? |
ποθεν δε εκπορευεται παχνη η διασκεδαννυται νοτος εις την υπ' ουρανον | 24 By what way is the light spread, and heat divided upon the earth? |
τις δε ητοιμασεν υετω λαβρω ρυσιν οδον δε κυδοιμων | 25 Who gave a course to violent showers, or a way for noisy thunder : |
του υετισαι επι γην ου ουκ ανηρ ερημον ου ουχ υπαρχει ανθρωπος εν αυτη | 26 That it should rain on the earth without man in the wilderness, where no mortal dwelleth : |
του χορτασαι αβατον και αοικητον και του εκβλαστησαι εξοδον χλοης | 27 That it should fill the desert and desolate land, and should bring forth green grass? |
τις εστιν υετου πατηρ τις δε εστιν ο τετοκως βωλους δροσου | 28 Who is the father of rain ? or who begot the drops of dew? |
εκ γαστρος δε τινος εκπορευεται ο κρυσταλλος παχνην δε εν ουρανω τις τετοκεν | 29 Out of whose womb came the ice; and the frost from heaven who hath gendered it? |
η καταβαινει ωσπερ υδωρ ρεον προσωπον δε αβυσσου τις επηξεν | 30 The waters are hardened like a stone, and the surface of the deep is congealed. |
συνηκας δε δεσμον πλειαδος και φραγμον ωριωνος ηνοιξας | 31 Shalt thou be able to join together the shining stars the Pleiades, or canst thou stop the turning about of Arcturus? |
η διανοιξεις μαζουρωθ εν καιρω αυτου και εσπερον επι κομης αυτου αξεις αυτα | 32 Canst thou bring forth the day star in its time, and make the evening star to rise upon the children of the earth? |
επιστασαι δε τροπας ουρανου η τα υπ' ουρανον ομοθυμαδον γινομενα | 33 Dost thou know the order of heaven, and canst thou set down the reason thereof on the earth? |
καλεσεις δε νεφος φωνη και τρομω υδατος λαβρω υπακουσεται σου | 34 Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that an abundance of waters may cover thee? |
αποστελεις δε κεραυνους και πορευσονται ερουσιν δε σοι τι εστιν | 35 Canst thou send lightnings, and will they go, and will they return and say to thee : Here we are? |
τις δε εδωκεν γυναιξιν υφασματος σοφιαν η ποικιλτικην επιστημην | 36 Who hath put wisdom in the heart of man? or who gave the cock understanding? |
τις δε ο αριθμων νεφη σοφια ουρανον δε εις γην εκλινεν | 37 Who can declare the order of the heavens, or who can make the harmony of heaven to sleep? |
κεχυται δε ωσπερ γη κονια κεκολληκα δε αυτον ωσπερ λιθω κυβον | 38 When was the dust poured on the earth, and the clods fastened together? |
θηρευσεις δε λεουσιν βοραν ψυχας δε δρακοντων εμπλησεις | 39 Wilt thou take the prey for the lioness, and satisfy the appetite of her whelps, |
δεδοικασιν γαρ εν κοιταις αυτων καθηνται δε εν υλαις ενεδρευοντες | 40 When they couch in the dens and lie in wait in holes? |
τις δε ητοιμασεν κορακι βοραν νεοσσοι γαρ αυτου προς κυριον κεκραγασιν πλανωμενοι τα σιτα ζητουντες | 41 Who provideth food for the raven, when her young ones cry to God, wandering about, because they have no meat? |
