KING JAMES BIBLENEW JERUSALEM
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.1 I urge you, then, brothers, remembering the mercies of God, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, dedicated and acceptable to God; that is the kind of worship for you, as sensible people.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.2 Do not model your behaviour on the contemporary world, but let the renewing of your mindstransform you, so that you may discern for yourselves what is the wil of God -- what is good and acceptable andmature.
For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.3 And through the grace that I have been given, I say this to every one of you: never pride yourself onbeing better than you real y are, but think of yourself dispassionately, recognising that God has given to eachone his measure of faith.
For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:4 Just as each of us has various parts in one body, and the parts do not al have the same function:
So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.5 in the same way, al of us, though there are so many of us, make up one body in Christ, and asdifferent parts we are al joined to one another.
Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;6 Then since the gifts that we have differ according to the grace that was given to each of us: if it is agift of prophecy, we should prophesy as much as our faith tells us;
Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;7 if it is a gift of practical service, let us devote ourselves to serving; if it is teaching, to teaching;
Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.8 if it is encouraging, to encouraging. When you give, you should give generously from the heart; if youare put in charge, you must be conscientious; if you do works of mercy, let it be because you enjoy doing them.
Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.9 Let love be without any pretence. Avoid what is evil; stick to what is good.
Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;10 In brotherly love let your feelings of deep affection for one another come to expression and regardothers as more important than yourself.
Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;11 In the service of the Lord, work not halfheartedly but with conscientiousness and an eager spirit.
Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;12 Be joyful in hope, persevere in hardship; keep praying regularly;
Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.13 share with any of God's holy people who are in need; look for opportunities to be hospitable.
Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.14 Bless your persecutors; never curse them, bless them.
Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.15 Rejoice with others when they rejoice, and be sad with those in sorrow.
Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.16 Give the same consideration to al others alike. Pay no regard to social standing, but meet humblepeople on their own terms. Do not congratulate yourself on your own wisdom.
Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.17 Never pay back evil with evil, but bear in mind the ideals that all regard with respect.
If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.18 As much as possible, and to the utmost of your ability, be at peace with everyone.
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.19 Never try to get revenge: leave that, my dear friends, to the Retribution. As scripture says:Vengeance is mine -- I wil pay them back, the Lord promises.
Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.20 And more: If your enemy is hungry, give him something to eat; if thirsty, something to drink. By this,you wil be heaping red-hot coals on his head.
Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.21 Do not be mastered by evil, but master evil with good.
