KING JAMES BIBLEDOUAI-RHEIMS
LORD, I cry unto thee: make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto thee.1 Unto the end, a psalm for David.
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.2 Deliver me, O Lord, from the evil man: rescue me from the unjust man.
Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.3 Who have devised iniquities in their hearts: all the day long they designed battles.
Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.4 They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent: the venom of saps is under their lips.
Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.5 Keep me, O Lord, from the hand of the wicked: and from unjust men deliver me. Who have proposed to supplant my steps.
When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.6 the proud have hidden a net for me. And they have stretched out cords for a snare: they have laid for me a stumblingblock by the wayside.
Our bones are scattered at the grave's mouth, as when one cutteth and cleaveth wood upon the earth.7 I said to the Lord: Thou art my God: hear, O Lord, the voice of my supplication.
But mine eyes are unto thee, O GOD the Lord: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute.8 O Lord, Lord, the strength of my salvation: thou hast overshadowed my head in the day of battle.
Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity.9 Give me not up, O Lord, from my desire to the wicked: they have plotted against me; do not thou forsake me, lest they should triumph.
Let the wicked fall into their own nets, whilst that I withal escape.10 The head of them compassing me about: the labour of their lips shall overwhelm them.
Burning coals shall fall upon them; thou wilt cast them down into the fire: in miseries they shall not be able to stand.
A man full of tongue shall not be established in the earth: evil shall catch the unjust man unto destruction.
I know that the Lord will do justice to the needy, and will revenge the poor.
But as for the just, they shall give glory to thy name: and the upright shall dwell with thy countenance.
