1 Jeder, der glaubt, dass Jesus der Christus ist, stammt von Gott und jeder, der den Vater liebt, liebt auch den, der von ihm stammt.	1 Every one who believes that Jesus is the Christ is a child of God, and every one who loves the parent loves the child.
2 Wir erkennen, dass wir die Kinder Gottes lieben, wenn wir Gott lieben und seine Gebote erfüllen.	2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments.
3 Denn die Liebe zu Gott besteht darin, dass wir seine Gebote halten. Seine Gebote sind nicht schwer.	3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.
4 Denn alles, was von Gott stammt, besiegt die Welt. Und das ist der Sieg, der die Welt besiegt hat: unser Glaube.	4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith.
5 Wer sonst besiegt die Welt, außer dem, der glaubt, dass Jesus der Sohn Gottes ist?	5 Who is it that overcomes the world but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
6 Dieser ist es, der durch Wasser und Blut gekommen ist: Jesus Christus. Er ist nicht nur im Wasser gekommen, sondern im Wasser und im Blut. Und der Geist ist es, der Zeugnis ablegt; denn der Geist ist die Wahrheit.	6 This is he who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only but with the water and the blood.
7 Drei sind es, die Zeugnis ablegen:	7 And the Spirit is the witness, because the Spirit is the truth.
8 der Geist, das Wasser und das Blut; und diese drei sind eins.	8 There are three witnesses, the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree.
9 Wenn wir von Menschen ein Zeugnis annehmen, so ist das Zeugnis Gottes gewichtiger; denn das ist das Zeugnis Gottes: Er hat Zeugnis abgelegt für seinen Sohn.	9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has borne witness to his Son.
10 Wer an den Sohn Gottes glaubt, trägt das Zeugnis in sich. Wer Gott nicht glaubt, macht ihn zum Lügner, weil er nicht an das Zeugnis glaubt, das Gott für seinen Sohn abgelegt hat.	10 He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne to his Son.
11 Und das Zeugnis besteht darin, dass Gott uns das ewige Leben gegeben hat; und dieses Leben ist in seinem Sohn.	11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 Wer den Sohn hat, hat das Leben; wer den Sohn Gottes nicht hat, hat das Leben nicht.	12 He who has the Son has life; he who has not the Son of God has not life.
13 Dies schreibe ich euch, damit ihr wisst, dass ihr das ewige Leben habt; denn ihr glaubt an den Namen des Sohnes Gottes.	13 I write this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.
14 Wir haben ihm gegenüber die Zuversicht, dass er uns hört, wenn wir etwas erbitten, das seinem Willen entspricht.	14 And this is the confidence which we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.
15 Wenn wir wissen, dass er uns bei allem hört, was wir erbitten, dann wissen wir auch, dass er unsere Bitten schon erfüllt hat.	15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have obtained the requests made of him.
16 Wer sieht, dass sein Bruder eine Sünde begeht, die nicht zum Tod führt, soll (für ihn) bitten; und Gott wird ihm Leben geben, allen, deren Sünde nicht zum Tod führt. Denn es gibt Sünde, die zum Tod führt. Von ihr spreche ich nicht, wenn ich sage, dass er bitten soll.	16 If any one sees his brother committing what is not a mortal sin, he will ask, and God will give him life for those whose sin is not mortal. There is sin which is mortal; I do not say that one is to pray for that.
17 Jedes Unrecht ist Sünde; aber es gibt Sünde, die nicht zum Tod führt.	17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin which is not mortal.
18 Wir wissen: Wer von Gott stammt, sündigt nicht, sondern der von Gott Gezeugte bewahrt ihn und der Böse tastet ihn nicht an.	18 We know that any one born of God does not sin, but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.
19 Wir wissen: Wir sind aus Gott, aber die ganze Welt steht unter der Macht des Bösen.	19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world is in the power of the evil one.
20 Wir wissen aber: Der Sohn Gottes ist gekommen und er hat uns Einsicht geschenkt, damit wir (Gott) den Wahren erkennen. Und wir sind in diesem Wahren, in seinem Sohn Jesus Christus. Er ist der wahre Gott und das ewige Leben.	20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, to know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
21 Meine Kinder, hütet euch vor den Götzen!	21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
