Johannes 3

1 Es war ein Pharisäer namens Nikodemus, ein führender Mann unter den Juden.	1 Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
2 Der suchte Jesus bei Nacht auf und sagte zu ihm: Rabbi, wir wissen, du bist ein Lehrer, der von Gott gekommen ist; denn niemand kann die Zeichen tun, die du tust, wenn nicht Gott mit ihm ist.	2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him."
3 Jesus antwortete ihm: Amen, amen, ich sage dir: Wenn jemand nicht von neuem geboren wird, kann er das Reich Gottes nicht sehen.	3 Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
4 Nikodemus entgegnete ihm: Wie kann ein Mensch, der schon alt ist, geboren werden? Er kann doch nicht in den Schoß seiner Mutter zurückkehren und ein zweites Mal geboren werden.	4 Nicodemus said to him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"
5 Jesus antwortete: Amen, amen, ich sage dir: Wenn jemand nicht aus Wasser und Geist geboren wird, kann er nicht in das Reich Gottes kommen.	5 Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
6 Was aus dem Fleisch geboren ist, das ist Fleisch; was aber aus dem Geist geboren ist, das ist Geist.	6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Wundere dich nicht, dass ich dir sagte: Ihr müsst von neuem geboren werden.	7 Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born anew.'
8 Der Wind weht, wo er will; du hörst sein Brausen, weißt aber nicht, woher er kommt und wohin er geht. So ist es mit jedem, der aus dem Geist geboren ist.	8 The wind blows where it wills, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know whence it comes or whither it goes; so it is with every one who is born of the Spirit."
9 Nikodemus erwiderte ihm: Wie kann das geschehen?	9 Nicodemus said to him, "How can this be?"
10 Jesus antwortete: Du bist der Lehrer Israels und verstehst das nicht?	10 Jesus answered him, "Are you a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand this?
11 Amen, amen, ich sage dir: Was wir wissen, davon reden wir, und was wir gesehen haben, das bezeugen wir, und doch nehmt ihr unser Zeugnis nicht an.	11 Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen; but you do not receive our testimony.
12 Wenn ich zu euch über irdische Dinge gesprochen habe und ihr nicht glaubt, wie werdet ihr glauben, wenn ich zu euch über himmlische Dinge spreche?	12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
13 Und niemand ist in den Himmel hinaufgestiegen außer dem, der vom Himmel herabgestiegen ist: der Menschensohn.	13 No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended from heaven, the Son of man.
14 Und wie Mose die Schlange in der Wüste erhöht hat, so muss der Menschensohn erhöht werden,	14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up,
15 damit jeder, der (an ihn) glaubt, in ihm das ewige Leben hat.	15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life."
16 Denn Gott hat die Welt so sehr geliebt, dass er seinen einzigen Sohn hingab, damit jeder, der an ihn glaubt, nicht zugrunde geht, sondern das ewige Leben hat.	16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
17 Denn Gott hat seinen Sohn nicht in die Welt gesandt, damit er die Welt richtet, sondern damit die Welt durch ihn gerettet wird.	17 For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.
18 Wer an ihn glaubt, wird nicht gerichtet; wer nicht glaubt, ist schon gerichtet, weil er an den Namen des einzigen Sohnes Gottes nicht geglaubt hat.	18 He who believes in him is not condemned; he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
19 Denn mit dem Gericht verhält es sich so: Das Licht kam in die Welt, und die Menschen liebten die Finsternis mehr als das Licht; denn ihre Taten waren böse.	19 And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 Jeder, der Böses tut, hasst das Licht und kommt nicht zum Licht, damit seine Taten nicht aufgedeckt werden.	20 For every one who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
21 Wer aber die Wahrheit tut, kommt zum Licht, damit offenbar wird, dass seine Taten in Gott vollbracht sind.	21 But he who does what is true comes to the light, that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been wrought in God.
22 Darauf ging Jesus mit seinen Jüngern nach Judäa. Dort hielt er sich mit ihnen auf und taufte.	22 After this Jesus and his disciples went into the land of Judea; there he remained with them and baptized.
23 Aber auch Johannes taufte damals, und zwar in Änon bei Salim, weil dort viel Wasser war; und die Leute kamen und ließen sich taufen.	23 John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there; and people came and were baptized.
24 Johannes war nämlich noch nicht ins Gefängnis geworfen worden.	24 For John had not yet been put in prison.
25 Da kam es zwischen den Jüngern des Johannes und einem Juden zum Streit über die Frage der Reinigung.	25 Now a discussion arose between John's disciples and a Jew over purifying.
26 Sie gingen zu Johannes und sagten zu ihm: Rabbi, der Mann, der auf der anderen Seite des Jordan bei dir war und für den du Zeugnis abgelegt hast, der tauft jetzt, und alle laufen zu ihm.	26 And they came to John, and said to him, "Rabbi, he who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you bore witness, here he is, baptizing, and all are going to him."
27 Johannes antwortete: Kein Mensch kann sich etwas nehmen, wenn es ihm nicht vom Himmel gegeben ist.	27 John answered, "No one can receive anything except what is given him from heaven.
28 Ihr selbst könnt mir bezeugen, dass ich gesagt habe: Ich bin nicht der Messias, sondern nur ein Gesandter, der ihm vorausgeht.	28 You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but I have been sent before him.
29 Wer die Braut hat, ist der Bräutigam; der Freund des Bräutigams aber, der dabeisteht und ihn hört, freut sich über die Stimme des Bräutigams. Diese Freude ist nun für mich Wirklichkeit geworden.	29 He who has the bride is the bridegroom; the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice; therefore this joy of mine is now full.
30 Er muss wachsen, ich aber muss kleiner werden.	30 He must increase, but I must decrease."
31 Er, der von oben kommt, steht über allen; wer von der Erde stammt, ist irdisch und redet irdisch. Er, der aus dem Himmel kommt, steht über allen.	31 He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth belongs to the earth, and of the earth he speaks; he who comes from heaven is above all.
32 Was er gesehen und gehört hat, bezeugt er, doch niemand nimmt sein Zeugnis an.	32 He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony;
33 Wer sein Zeugnis annimmt, beglaubigt, dass Gott wahrhaftig ist.	33 he who receives his testimony sets his seal to this, that God is true.
34 Denn der, den Gott gesandt hat, verkündet die Worte Gottes; denn er gibt den Geist unbegrenzt.	34 For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for it is not by measure that he gives the Spirit;
35 Der Vater liebt den Sohn und hat alles in seine Hand gegeben.	35 the Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand.
36 Wer an den Sohn glaubt, hat das ewige Leben; wer aber dem Sohn nicht gehorcht, wird das Leben nicht sehen, sondern Gottes Zorn bleibt auf ihm.	36 He who believes in the Son has eternal life; he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God rests upon him.
