1 Als Jesus an einem Sabbat in das Haus eines führenden Pharisäers zum Essen kam, beobachtete man ihn genau.	1 One sabbath when he went to dine at the house of a ruler who belonged to the Pharisees, they were watching him.
2 Da stand auf einmal ein Mann vor ihm, der an Wassersucht litt.	2 And behold, there was a man before him who had dropsy.
3 Jesus wandte sich an die Gesetzeslehrer und die Pharisäer und fragte: Ist es am Sabbat erlaubt zu heilen, oder nicht?	3 And Jesus spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, "Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath, or not?"
4 Sie schwiegen. Da berührte er den Mann, heilte ihn und ließ ihn gehen.	4 But they were silent. Then he took him and healed him, and let him go.
5 Zu ihnen aber sagte er: Wer von euch wird seinen Sohn oder seinen Ochsen, der in den Brunnen fällt, nicht sofort herausziehen, auch am Sabbat?	5 And he said to them, "Which of you, having an ass or an ox that has fallen into a well, will not immediately pull him out on a sabbath day?"
6 Darauf konnten sie ihm nichts erwidern.	6 And they could not reply to this.
7 Als er bemerkte, wie sich die Gäste die Ehrenplätze aussuchten, nahm er das zum Anlass, ihnen eine Lehre zu erteilen. Er sagte zu ihnen:	7 Now he told a parable to those who were invited, when he marked how they chose the places of honor, saying to them,
8 Wenn du zu einer Hochzeit eingeladen bist, such dir nicht den Ehrenplatz aus. Denn es könnte ein anderer eingeladen sein, der vornehmer ist als du,	8 "When you are invited by any one to a marriage feast, do not sit down in a place of honor, lest a more eminent man than you be invited by him;
9 und dann würde der Gastgeber, der dich und ihn eingeladen hat, kommen und zu dir sagen: Mach diesem hier Platz! Du aber wärst beschämt und müsstest den untersten Platz einnehmen.	9 and he who invited you both will come and say to you, 'Give place to this man,' and then you will begin with shame to take the lowest place.
10 Wenn du also eingeladen bist, setz dich lieber, wenn du hinkommst, auf den untersten Platz; dann wird der Gastgeber zu dir kommen und sagen: Mein Freund, rück weiter hinauf! Das wird für dich eine Ehre sein vor allen anderen Gästen.	10 But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when your host comes he may say to you, 'Friend, go up higher'; then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at table with you.
11 Denn wer sich selbst erhöht, wird erniedrigt, und wer sich selbst erniedrigt, wird erhöht werden.	11 For every one who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
12 Dann sagte er zu dem Gastgeber: Wenn du mittags oder abends ein Essen gibst, so lade nicht deine Freunde oder deine Brüder, deine Verwandten oder reiche Nachbarn ein; sonst laden auch sie dich ein, und damit ist dir wieder alles vergolten.	12 He said also to the man who had invited him, "When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your kinsmen or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return, and you be repaid.
13 Nein, wenn du ein Essen gibst, dann lade Arme, Krüppel, Lahme und Blinde ein.	13 But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind,
14 Du wirst selig sein, denn sie können es dir nicht vergelten; es wird dir vergolten werden bei der Auferstehung der Gerechten.	14 and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just."
15 Als einer der Gäste das hörte, sagte er zu Jesus: Selig, wer im Reich Gottes am Mahl teilnehmen darf.	15 When one of those who sat at table with him heard this, he said to him, "Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!"
16 Jesus sagte zu ihm: Ein Mann veranstaltete ein großes Festmahl und lud viele dazu ein.	16 But he said to him, "A man once gave a great banquet, and invited many;
17 Als das Fest beginnen sollte, schickte er seinen Diener und ließ den Gästen, die er eingeladen hatte, sagen: Kommt, es steht alles bereit!	17 and at the time for the banquet he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, 'Come; for all is now ready.'
18 Aber einer nach dem andern ließ sich entschuldigen. Der erste ließ ihm sagen: Ich habe einen Acker gekauft und muss jetzt gehen und ihn besichtigen. Bitte, entschuldige mich!	18 But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it; I pray you, have me excused.'
19 Ein anderer sagte: Ich habe fünf Ochsengespanne gekauft und bin auf dem Weg, sie mir genauer anzusehen. Bitte, entschuldige mich!	19 And another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them; I pray you, have me excused.'
20 Wieder ein anderer sagte: Ich habe geheiratet und kann deshalb nicht kommen.	20 And another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.'
21 Der Diener kehrte zurück und berichtete alles seinem Herrn. Da wurde der Herr zornig und sagte zu seinem Diener: Geh schnell auf die Straßen und Gassen der Stadt und hol die Armen und die Krüppel, die Blinden und die Lahmen herbei.	21 So the servant came and reported this to his master. Then the householder in anger said to his servant, 'Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and maimed and blind and lame.'
22 Bald darauf meldete der Diener: Herr, dein Auftrag ist ausgeführt; aber es ist immer noch Platz.	22 And the servant said, 'Sir, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.'
23 Da sagte der Herr zu dem Diener: Dann geh auf die Landstraßen und vor die Stadt hinaus und nötige die Leute zu kommen, damit mein Haus voll wird.	23 And the master said to the servant, 'Go out to the highways and hedges, and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled.
24 Das aber sage ich euch: Keiner von denen, die eingeladen waren, wird an meinem Mahl teilnehmen.	24 For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet.'"
25 Viele Menschen begleiteten ihn; da wandte er sich an sie und sagte:	25 Now great multitudes accompanied him; and he turned and said to them,
26 Wenn jemand zu mir kommt und nicht Vater und Mutter, Frau und Kinder, Brüder und Schwestern, ja sogar sein Leben gering achtet, dann kann er nicht mein Jünger sein.	26 "If any one comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.
27 Wer nicht sein Kreuz trägt und mir nachfolgt, der kann nicht mein Jünger sein.	27 Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
28 Wenn einer von euch einen Turm bauen will, setzt er sich dann nicht zuerst hin und rechnet, ob seine Mittel für das ganze Vorhaben ausreichen?	28 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?
29 Sonst könnte es geschehen, dass er das Fundament gelegt hat, dann aber den Bau nicht fertig stellen kann. Und alle, die es sehen, würden ihn verspotten	29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him,
30 und sagen: Der da hat einen Bau begonnen und konnte ihn nicht zu Ende führen.	30 saying, 'This man began to build, and was not able to finish.'
31 Oder wenn ein König gegen einen anderen in den Krieg zieht, setzt er sich dann nicht zuerst hin und überlegt, ob er sich mit seinen zehntausend Mann dem entgegenstellen kann, der mit zwanzigtausend gegen ihn anrückt?	31 Or what king, going to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?
32 Kann er es nicht, dann schickt er eine Gesandtschaft, solange der andere noch weit weg ist, und bittet um Frieden.	32 And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an embassy and asks terms of peace.
33 Darum kann keiner von euch mein Jünger sein, wenn er nicht auf seinen ganzen Besitz verzichtet.	33 So therefore, whoever of you does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple."
34 Das Salz ist etwas Gutes. Wenn aber das Salz seinen Geschmack verliert, womit kann man ihm die Würze wiedergeben?	34 "Salt is good; but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltness be restored?
35 Es taugt weder für den Acker noch für den Misthaufen, man wirft es weg. Wer Ohren hat zum Hören, der höre!	35 It is fit neither for the land nor for the dunghill; men throw it away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
