1 Mose antwortete: Was aber, wenn sie mir nicht glauben und nicht auf mich hören, sondern sagen: Jahwe ist dir nicht erschienen?	1 Responding, Moses said, “They will not believe me, and they will not listen to my voice, but they will say: ‘The Lord has not appeared to you.’ ”
2 Der Herr entgegnete ihm: Was hast du da in der Hand? Er antwortete: Einen Stab.	2 Therefore, he said to him, “What is that you hold in your hand?” He answered, “A staff.”
3 Da sagte der Herr: Wirf ihn auf die Erde! Mose warf ihn auf die Erde. Da wurde der Stab zu einer Schlange und Mose wich vor ihr zurück.	3 And the Lord said, “Cast it down upon the ground.” He cast it down, and it was turned into a snake, so that Moses fled away.
4 Der Herr aber sprach zu Mose: Streck deine Hand aus und fasse sie am Schwanz! Er streckte seine Hand aus und packte sie. Da wurde sie in seiner Hand wieder zu einem Stab.	4 And the Lord said, “Reach out your hand, and take hold of its tail.” He reached out his hand and took hold, and it was turned into a staff.
5 So sollen sie dir glauben, dass dir Jahwe erschienen ist, der Gott ihrer Väter, der Gott Abrahams, der Gott Isaaks und der Gott Jakobs.	5 “So may they believe,” he said, “that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”
6 Weiter sprach der Herr zu ihm: Leg deine Hand in deinen Gewandbausch! Er legte seine Hand hinein. Als er sie herauszog, war seine Hand von Aussatz weiß wie Schnee.	6 And the Lord said again, “Put your hand into your bosom.” And when he had put it into his bosom, he brought it out leprous, resembling snow.
7 Darauf sagte der Herr: Leg deine Hand noch einmal in deinen Gewandbausch! Er legte seine Hand noch einmal hinein. Als er sie wieder herauszog, sah sie wieder aus wie der übrige Leib.	7 “Put your hand back,” he said, “into your bosom.” He put it back and brought it out again, and it was like the rest of his flesh.
8 Wenn sie dir nicht glauben und sich durch das erste Zeichen nicht überzeugen lassen, werden sie auf das zweite Zeichen hin glauben.	8 “If they will not believe you,” he said, “and will not listen to the sermon of the first sign, then they will believe the word of the subsequent sign.
9 Glauben sie aber selbst nach diesen beiden Zeichen nicht und lassen sie sich nicht überzeugen, dann nimm etwas Nilwasser und schütt es auf trockenen Boden! Das Wasser, das du aus dem Nil geholt hast, wird auf dem Boden zu Blut werden.	9 But if they will not believe even these two signs, and they will not listen to your voice: take from the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land, and whatever you will have drawn from the river will be turned into blood.”
10 Doch Mose sagte zum Herrn: Aber bitte, Herr, ich bin keiner, der gut reden kann, weder gestern noch vorgestern, noch seitdem du mit deinem Knecht sprichst. Mein Mund und meine Zunge sind nämlich schwerfällig.	10 Moses said: “I beg you, O Lord, I was not eloquent yesterday or the day before. And from the time that you have spoken to your servant, I have a greater impediment and slowness of tongue.”
11 Der Herr entgegnete ihm: Wer hat dem Menschen den Mund gegeben und wer macht taub oder stumm, sehend oder blind? Doch wohl ich, der Herr!	11 The Lord said to him: “Who made the mouth of man? And who has formed the mute and the deaf, the seeing and the blind? Was it not I?
12 Geh also! Ich bin mit deinem Mund und weise dich an, was du reden sollst.	12 Go on, therefore, and I will be in your mouth. And I will teach you what you shall say.”
13 Doch Mose antwortete: Aber bitte, Herr, schick doch einen andern!	13 But he said, “I beg you, O Lord, send whomever else you would send.”
14 Da entbrannte der Zorn des Herrn über Mose und er sprach: Hast du nicht noch einen Bruder, den Leviten Aaron? Ich weiß, er kann reden; außerdem bricht er gerade auf und wird dir begegnen. Wenn er dich sieht, wird er sich von Herzen freuen.	14 The Lord, being angry at Moses, said: “Aaron the Levite is your brother. I know that he is eloquent. Behold, he is going out to meet you, and seeing you, he will rejoice in heart.
15 Sprich mit ihm und leg ihm die Worte in den Mund! Ich aber werde mit deinem und seinem Mund sein, ich werde euch anweisen, was ihr tun sollt,	15 Speak to him, and put my words in his mouth. And I will be in your mouth and in his mouth, and I will reveal to you what you must do.
16 und er wird für dich zum Volk reden. Er wird für dich der Mund sein und du wirst für ihn Gott sein.	16 He will speak for you to the people, and he will be your mouth. But you will be with him in those things that pertain to God.
17 Diesen Stab nimm in deine Hand! Mit ihm wirst du die Zeichen vollbringen.	17 Also, take this staff into your hand; with it you will accomplish the signs.”
18 Darauf kehrte Mose zu seinem Schwiegervater Jitro zurück. Er sagte zu ihm: Ich will zu meinen Brüdern nach Ägypten zurückkehren. Ich will sehen, ob sie noch am Leben sind. Jitro antwortete Mose: Geh in Frieden!	18 Moses went forth, and he returned to Jethro, his father in law, and he said to him, “I shall go and return to my brothers in Egypt, so that I may see if they are still alive.” And Jethro said to him, “Go in peace.”
19 Der Herr sprach zu Mose in Midian: Mach dich auf und kehr nach Ägypten zurück; denn alle, die dir nach dem Leben getrachtet haben, sind tot.	19 And so the Lord said to Moses in Midian: “Go, and return to Egypt. For all those who sought your life have died.”
20 Da holte Mose seine Frau und seine Söhne, setzte sie auf einen Esel und trat den Rückweg nach Ägypten an. Den Gottesstab hielt er in der Hand.	20 Therefore, Moses took his wife and his sons, and he placed them upon a donkey, and he returned into Egypt, carrying the staff of God in his hand.
21 Der Herr sprach zu Mose: Wenn du gehst und nach Ägypten zurückkehrst, halte dir alle Wunder vor Augen, die ich in deine Hand gelegt habe, und vollbring sie vor dem Pharao! Ich will sein Herz verhärten, sodass er das Volk nicht ziehen lässt.	21 And the Lord said to him, as he was returning to Egypt: “See that you accomplish, in the sight of Pharaoh, all the wonders that I have placed in your hand. I will harden his heart, and he will not release the people.
22 Dann sag zum Pharao: So spricht Jahwe: Israel ist mein erstgeborener Sohn.	22 And you shall say to him: ‘Thus says the Lord: Israel is my firstborn son.
23 Ich sage dir: Lass meinen Sohn ziehen, damit er mich verehren kann. Wenn du dich weigerst, ihn ziehen zu lassen, bringe ich deinen erstgeborenen Sohn um.	23 I have said to you: Release my son, so that he may serve me. And you were not willing to release him. Behold, I will put to death your firstborn son.’ ”
24 Unterwegs am Rastplatz trat der Herr dem Mose entgegen und wollte ihn töten.	24 And while he was on the journey, at an inn, the Lord met him, and he was willing to kill him.
25 Zippora ergriff einen Feuerstein und schnitt ihrem Sohn die Vorhaut ab. Damit berührte sie die Beine des Mose und sagte: Ein Blutbräutigam bist du mir.	25 For this reason, Zipporah took a very sharp stone, and she circumcised the foreskin of her son, and she touched his feet, and she said, “You are a bloody spouse to me.”
26 Da ließ der Herr von ihm ab. «Blutbräutigam», sagte sie damals wegen der Beschneidung.	26 And he released him, after she had said, “You are a bloody spouse,” because of the circumcision.
27 Der Herr sprach zu Aaron: Geh hinaus in die Wüste, Mose entgegen! Da ging er. Am Gottesberg traf er ihn und küsste ihn.	27 Then the Lord said to Aaron, “Go into the desert to meet Moses.” And he went directly to meet him on the mountain of God, and he kissed him.
28 Mose erzählte Aaron von dem Auftrag, mit dem der Herr ihn gesandt hatte, und von allen Zeichen, zu denen er ihn ermächtigt hatte.	28 And Moses explained to Aaron all the words of the Lord, by which he had sent him, and the signs which he had commanded.
29 Mose und Aaron gingen und versammelten alle Ältesten der Israeliten.	29 And they arrived at the same time, and they gathered together all the elders of the sons of Israel.
30 Aaron wiederholte vor ihnen alle Worte, die der Herr zu Mose gesprochen hatte, und Mose vollbrachte die Zeichen vor den Augen des Volkes.	30 And Aaron spoke all the words which the Lord had said to Moses. And he accomplished the signs in the sight of the people,
31 Da glaubte das Volk, und als sie hörten, dass der Herr sich der Israeliten angenommen und ihr Elend gesehen habe, verneigten sie sich und warfen sich vor ihm nieder.	31 and the people believed. And they heard that the Lord had visited the sons of Israel, and that he had looked with favor upon their affliction. And falling prostrate, they worshiped.
