Exodus 22

EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Wird ein Dieb beim Einbruch ertappt und so geschlagen, dass er stirbt, so entsteht dadurch keine Blutschuld.	1 'If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck a mortal blow, his blood may not be avenged,
2 Doch ist darüber bereits die Sonne aufgegangen, dann entsteht Blutschuld. Ein Dieb muss Ersatz leisten. Besitzt er nichts, soll man ihn für den Wert des Gestohlenen verkaufen.	2 but if it happens after sunrise, his blood may be avenged. He wil make ful restitution; if he has not themeans, he will be sold to pay for what he has stolen.
3 Findet man das Gestohlene, sei es Rind, Esel oder Schaf, noch lebend in seinem Besitz, dann soll er doppelten Ersatz leisten.	3 If the stolen animal is found alive in his possession, be it ox, donkey or animal from the flock, he wilpay back double.
4 Wenn jemand ein Feld oder einen Weinberg abbrennt und das Feuer sich ausbreiten lässt, sodass es das Feld eines andern in Brand steckt, dann soll er den besten Ertrag seines Feldes oder Weinbergs als Ersatz dafür geben.	4 'If anyone puts his animals out to graze in a field or vineyard and lets them graze in someone else'sfield, he wil make restitution for the part of the field that has been grazed on the basis of its yield. But if he haslet the whole field be grazed, he wil make restitution in proportion to the best crop of the field or vineyard.
5 Breitet sich das Feuer aus, erfasst es eine Dornenhecke und vernichtet einen Getreidehaufen, auf dem Halm stehendes Getreide oder ein Feld, dann soll der für den Brand Verantwortliche den Schaden ersetzen.	5 'If a fire breaks out, setting light to thorn bushes and burning stacks, standing corn or the field as aresult, the person who started the fire wil make ful restitution.
6 Übergibt jemand einem andern Geld oder Gerät zur Aufbewahrung und es wird aus dessen Haus gestohlen, dann soll der Dieb, wenn man ihn findet, doppelten Ersatz leisten.	6 'If anyone entrusts money or goods to someone else's keeping and these are stolen from that person'shouse, the thief, if he can be discovered, wil repay double.
7 Findet man den Dieb nicht, soll der Hausherr vor Gott erklären, dass er sich nicht selbst am Eigentum des andern vergriffen hat.	7 Should the thief not be discovered, the owner of the house will come into the presence of God, todeclare that he has not laid hands on the other person's property.
8 Wenn jemandem etwas veruntreut wurde, ein Rind, ein Esel, ein Schaf, ein Kleid oder sonst etwas, und er behauptet: Ja, das ist es, dann soll der Streitfall der beiden vor Gott kommen. Wen Gott als schuldig bezeichnet, soll dem andern doppelten Ersatz leisten.	8 'In every case of law-breaking involving an ox, donkey, animal from the flock, clothing or lost propertyof any sort, the ownership of which is disputed, both parties wil lay their case before God. The party whom Godpronounces guilty wil pay back double to the other.
9 Wenn jemand einem andern einen Esel, ein Rind, ein Schaf oder sonst ein Haustier zur Verwahrung übergibt und das Tier eingeht, sich etwas bricht oder fortgetrieben wird, ohne dass es jemand sieht,	9 'If anyone entrusts a donkey, ox, animal from the flock or any other animal to someone else's keeping,and it dies or breaks a limb or is carried off without anyone seeing,
10 dann soll ein Eid beim Namen des Herrn Klarheit darüber schaffen, dass der eine sich nicht am Eigentum des andern vergriffen hat. Der Eigentümer soll an sich nehmen, was noch da ist, ohne dass der andere Ersatz zu leisten hätte.	10 an oath by Yahweh wil decide between the two parties whether the keeper has laid hands on theother's property or not. The owner wil take what remains, the keeper wil not have to make good the loss.
11 Ist es ihm aber gestohlen worden, muss er dem Eigentümer Ersatz leisten.	11 Only if the animal has been stolen from him, will he make restitution to the owner.
12 Ist das Tier gerissen worden, bringe er es zum Beweis herbei; dann braucht er für das Gerissene keinen Ersatz zu leisten.	12 If it has been savaged by a wild animal, he must bring the savaged remains of the animal asevidence, and wil then not have to make restitution.
13 Leiht jemand von einem andern ein Tier und bricht es sich etwas oder geht ein, und zwar in Abwesenheit des Eigentümers, so muss er Ersatz leisten.	13 'If anyone borrows an animal from someone else, and it breaks a limb or dies in the owner's absence,he wil make ful restitution.
14 War der Eigentümer aber anwesend, so braucht der andere keinen Ersatz zu leisten. Ist er Taglöhner, so geht es von seinem Lohn ab.	14 But if the animal's owner has been present, he wil not have to make good the loss. If the owner hashired it out, he wil get the cost of its hire.
15 Wenn jemand ein noch nicht verlobtes Mädchen verführt und bei ihm schläft, dann soll er das Brautgeld zahlen und sie zur Frau nehmen.	15 'If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to be married, he wil pay her bride-price and make herhis wife.
16 Weigert sich aber ihr Vater, sie ihm zu geben, dann hat er ihm so viel zu zahlen, wie der Brautpreis für eine Jungfrau beträgt.	16 If her father absolutely refuses to let him have her, he will pay a sum equivalent to the bride-price of avirgin.
17 Eine Hexe sollst du nicht am Leben lassen.	17 'You wil not al ow a sorceress to live.
18 Jeder, der mit einem Tier verkehrt, soll mit dem Tod bestraft werden.	18 'Anyone who has intercourse with an animal will be put to death.
19 Wer einer Gottheit außer Jahwe Schlachtopfer darbringt, an dem soll die Vernichtungsweihe vollstreckt werden.	19 'Anyone who sacrifices to other gods wil be put under the curse of destruction.
20 Einen Fremden sollst du nicht ausnützen oder ausbeuten, denn ihr selbst seid in Ägypten Fremde gewesen.	20 'You wil not molest or oppress aliens, for you yourselves were once aliens in Egypt.
21 Ihr sollt keine Witwe oder Waise ausnützen.	21 You wil not il -treat widows or orphans;
22 Wenn du sie ausnützt und sie zu mir schreit, werde ich auf ihren Klageschrei hören.	22 if you il -treat them in any way and they make an appeal to me for help, I shal certainly hear theirappeal,
23 Mein Zorn wird entbrennen und ich werde euch mit dem Schwert umbringen, sodass eure Frauen zu Witwen und eure Söhne zu Waisen werden.	23 my anger wil be roused and I shal put you to the sword; then your own wives will be widows andyour own children orphans.
24 Leihst du einem aus meinem Volk, einem Armen, der neben dir wohnt, Geld, dann sollst du dich gegen ihn nicht wie ein Wucherer benehmen. Ihr sollt von ihm keinen Wucherzins fordern.	24 'If you lend money to any of my people, to anyone poor among you, you wil not play the usurer withhim: you will not demand interest from him.
25 Nimmst du von einem Mitbürger den Mantel zum Pfand, dann sollst du ihn bis Sonnenuntergang zurückgeben;	25 'If you take someone's cloak in pledge, you wil return it to him at sunset.
26 denn es ist seine einzige Decke, der Mantel, mit dem er seinen bloßen Leib bedeckt. Worin soll er sonst schlafen? Wenn er zu mir schreit, höre ich es, denn ich habe Mitleid.	26 It is al the covering he has; it is the cloak he wraps his body in; what else wil he sleep in? If heappeals to me, I shall listen. At least with me he will find compassion!
27 Du sollst Gott nicht verächtlich machen und den Fürsten deines Volkes nicht verfluchen.	27 'You wil not revile God, nor curse your people's leader.
28 Deinen Reichtum und Überfluss sollst du nicht für dich behalten. Den Erstgeborenen unter deinen Söhnen sollst du mir geben.	28 'Do not be slow about making offerings from your abundance and your surplus. You wil give me thefirst-born of your children;
29 Ebenso sollst du es mit deinen Rindern, Schafen und Ziegen halten. Sieben Tage sollen sie bei ihrer Mutter bleiben, am achten Tag sollst du sie mir übergeben.	29 you will do the same with your flocks and herds. For the first seven days the first-born wil stay withits mother; on the eighth day you wil give it to me.
30 Als heilige Männer sollt ihr mir gehören. Fleisch von einem Tier, das auf dem Feld gerissen wurde, sollt ihr nicht essen; ihr sollt es den Hunden vorwerfen.	30 'You must be people consecrated to me. You wil not eat the meat of anything in the countrysidesavaged by wild animals; you wil throw it to the dogs.'
