1 Die ganze Gemeinde der Israeliten brach von Elim auf und kam in die Wüste Sin, die zwischen Elim und dem Sinai liegt. Es war der fünfzehnte Tag des zweiten Monats nach ihrem Auszug aus Ägypten.	1 And they set out from Elim. And the entire multitude of the sons of Israel arrived at the desert of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month, after they departed from the land of Egypt.
2 Die ganze Gemeinde der Israeliten murrte in der Wüste gegen Mose und Aaron.	2 And the entire congregation of the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.
3 Die Israeliten sagten zu ihnen: Wären wir doch in Ägypten durch die Hand des Herrn gestorben, als wir an den Fleischtöpfen saßen und Brot genug zu essen hatten. Ihr habt uns nur deshalb in diese Wüste geführt, um alle, die hier versammelt sind, an Hunger sterben zu lassen.	3 And the sons of Israel said to them: “If only we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat around bowls of meat and ate bread until filled. Why have you led us away, into this desert, so that you might kill the entire multitude with famine?”
4 Da sprach der Herr zu Mose: Ich will euch Brot vom Himmel regnen lassen. Das Volk soll hinausgehen, um seinen täglichen Bedarf zu sammeln. Ich will es prüfen, ob es nach meiner Weisung lebt oder nicht.	4 Then the Lord said to Moses: “Behold, I will rain down bread from heaven for you. Let the people go out and collect what is sufficient for each day, so that I may test them, as to whether or not they will walk in my law.
5 Wenn sie am sechsten Tag feststellen, was sie zusammengebracht haben, wird es doppelt so viel sein, wie sie sonst täglich gesammelt haben.	5 But on the sixth day, let them prepare what they use for carrying, and let there be double what they were accustomed to collect on a single day.”
6 Da sagten Mose und Aaron zu allen Israeliten: Heute Abend sollt ihr erfahren, dass der Herr euch aus Ägypten geführt hat,	6 And Moses and Aaron said to the sons of Israel: “In the evening, you will know that the Lord has led you away from the land of Egypt.
7 und morgen werdet ihr die Herrlichkeit des Herrn schauen; denn er hat euer Murren gegen ihn gehört. Aber wer sind schon wir, dass ihr gegen uns murrt?	7 And in the morning, you will see the glory of the Lord. For he has heard your murmuring against the Lord. But as for us, truly what are we, that you would whisper against us?”
8 Weiter sagte Mose: Wenn der Herr euch heute Abend Fleisch zu essen gibt und euch am Morgen mit Brot sättigt, wenn er also euer Murren hört, mit dem ihr ihn bedrängt, was sind wir dann? Nicht uns galt euer Murren, sondern dem Herrn.	8 And Moses said: “In the evening, the Lord will give you flesh to eat, and in the morning, bread in fullness. For he has heard your murmurings that you have murmured against him. For what are we? Your murmuring is not against us, but against the Lord.”
9 Dann sagte Mose zu Aaron: Sag der ganzen Gemeinde der Israeliten: Tretet hin vor den Herrn; denn er hat euer Murren gehört.	9 Moses also said to Aaron: “Say to the whole congregation of the sons of Israel, ‘Approach before the Lord. For he has heard your murmuring.’ ”
10 Während Aaron zur ganzen Gemeinde der Israeliten sprach, wandten sie sich zur Wüste hin. Da erschien plötzlich in der Wolke die Herrlichkeit des Herrn.	10 And when Aaron spoke to the entire assembly of the sons of Israel, they looked out toward the wilderness. And behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in a cloud.
11 Der Herr sprach zu Mose:	11 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
12 Ich habe das Murren der Israeliten gehört. Sag ihnen: Am Abend werdet ihr Fleisch zu essen haben, am Morgen werdet ihr satt sein von Brot und ihr werdet erkennen, dass ich der Herr, euer Gott, bin.	12 “I have heard the murmuring of the sons of Israel. Say to them: ‘In the evening, you will eat flesh, and in the morning, you will be filled with bread. And you shall know that I am the Lord your God.’ ”
13 Am Abend kamen die Wachteln und bedeckten das Lager. Am Morgen lag eine Schicht von Tau rings um das Lager.	13 Therefore, it happened in the evening: quails, rising up, covered the camp. Likewise, in the morning, a dew lay all around the camp.
14 Als sich die Tauschicht gehoben hatte, lag auf dem Wüstenboden etwas Feines, Knuspriges, fein wie Reif, auf der Erde.	14 And when it had covered the face of the earth, it appeared, in the wilderness, small and as if crushed with a pestle, similar to hoar-frost on the ground.
15 Als das die Israeliten sahen, sagten sie zueinander: Was ist das? Denn sie wussten nicht, was es war. Da sagte Mose zu ihnen: Das ist das Brot, das der Herr euch zu essen gibt.	15 When the sons of Israel had seen it, they said one to another: “Manhu?” which means “What is this?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them: “This is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat.
16 Das ordnet der Herr an: Sammelt davon so viel, wie jeder zum Essen braucht, ein Gomer je Kopf. Jeder darf so viel Gomer holen, wie Personen im Zelt sind.	16 This is the word that the Lord has instructed. Let each one collect as much of it as is sufficient to eat. One omer for each head. According to the number of your souls which live in a tent, so will you take of it.”
17 Die Israeliten taten es und sammelten ein, der eine viel, der andere wenig.	17 And the sons of Israel did so. And they collected: some more, others less.
18 Als sie die Gomer zählten, hatte keiner, der viel gesammelt hatte, zu viel und keiner, der wenig gesammelt hatte, zu wenig. Jeder hatte so viel gesammelt, wie er zum Essen brauchte.	18 And they measured by the measure of an omer. He who collected more, did not have too much; nor did he who prepared less, find too little. But each one gathered according to what they were able to eat.
19 Mose sagte zu ihnen: Davon darf bis zum Morgen niemand etwas übrig lassen.	19 And Moses said to them, “Let no one leave any of it behind until morning.”
20 Doch sie hörten nicht auf Mose, sondern einige ließen etwas bis zum Morgen übrig. Aber es wurde wurmig und stank. Da geriet Mose in Zorn über sie.	20 And they did not listen to him, but they left some of it behind until morning, and it began to swarm with worms, and it putrefied. And Moses became angry against them.
21 Sie sammelten es Morgen für Morgen, jeder so viel, wie er zum Essen brauchte. Sobald die Sonnenhitze einsetzte, zerging es.	21 Then each one collected, in the morning, as much as would be sufficient to eat. And after the sun became hot, it melted.
22 Am sechsten Tag sammelten sie die doppelte Menge Brot, zwei Gomer für jeden. Da kamen alle Sippenhäupter der Gemeinde und berichteten es Mose.	22 But on the sixth day, they collected a double portion, that is, two omers for each man. Then all the leaders among the multitude came, and they discoursed with Moses.
23 Er sagte zu ihnen: Es ist so, wie der Herr gesagt hat: Morgen ist Feiertag, heiliger Sabbat zur Ehre des Herrn. Backt, was ihr backen wollt, und kocht, was ihr kochen wollt, den Rest bewahrt bis morgen früh auf!	23 And he said to them: “This is what the Lord has spoken: Tomorrow, the rest day of the Sabbath, has been sanctified to the Lord. Whatever would be done, do it now. And whatever would be cooked, cook it now. Then anything that will have been left over, store it until morning.”
24 Sie bewahrten es also bis zum Morgen auf, wie es Mose angeordnet hatte, und es faulte nicht, noch wurde es madig.	24 And they did just as Moses had instructed, and it did not putrefy, nor were there any worms found in it.
25 Da sagte Mose: Esst es heute, denn heute ist Sabbat zur Ehre des Herrn. Heute findet ihr draußen nichts.	25 And Moses said: “Eat it today, because it is the Sabbath of the Lord. Today it will not be found in the field.
26 Sechs Tage dürft ihr es sammeln, am siebten Tag ist Sabbat; da findet ihr nichts.	26 Gather for six days. But on the seventh day, it is the Sabbath of the Lord, for which reason it will not be found.”
27 Am siebten Tag gingen trotzdem einige vom Volk hinaus, um zu sammeln, fanden aber nichts.	27 And the seventh day arrived. And some of the people, going out to collect it, did not find it.
28 Da sprach der Herr zu Mose: Wie lange wollt ihr euch noch weigern, meine Gebote und Weisungen zu befolgen?	28 Then the Lord said to Moses: “How long will you be unwilling to keep my commandments and my law?
29 Ihr seht, der Herr hat euch den Sabbat gegeben; daher gibt er auch am sechsten Tag Brot für zwei Tage. Jeder bleibe, wo er ist. Am siebten Tag verlasse niemand seinen Platz.	29 See how the Lord has given you the Sabbath, and, because of this, on the sixth day he distributes to you a double portion. Let each one remain with his own, and let no one go forth from his place on the seventh day.”
30 Das Volk ruhte also am siebten Tag.	30 And the people kept the Sabbath on the seventh day.
31 Das Haus Israel nannte das Brot Manna. Es war weiß wie Koriandersamen und schmeckte wie Honigkuchen.	31 And the house of Israel called its name ‘Manna.’ It was like white coriander seed, and its taste was like wheat flour with honey.
32 Mose sagte: Der Herr ordnet Folgendes an. Ein volles Gomer Manna ist für die Generationen nach euch aufzubewahren, damit sie das Brot sehen, das ich euch in der Wüste zu essen gab, als ich euch aus Ägypten herausführte.	32 Then Moses said: “This is the word that the Lord has instructed: Fill an omer of it, and let it be kept for future generations hereafter, so that they may know the bread, with which I nourished you in the wilderness, when you had been led away from the land of Egypt.”
33 Zu Aaron sagte Mose: Nimm ein Gefäß, schütte ein volles Gomer Manna hinein und stell es vor den Herrn! Es soll für die nachkommenden Generationen aufbewahrt werden.	33 And Moses said to Aaron, “Take one vessel, and put manna into it, as much as an omer is able to hold. And store it in the sight of the Lord, to keep for your generations,
34 Wie der Herr dem Mose befohlen hatte, stellte Aaron das Manna vor die Bundesurkunde, damit es dort aufbewahrt würde.	34 just as the Lord instructed Moses.” And so, Aaron placed it in the tabernacle, in reserve.
35 Die Israeliten aßen vierzig Jahre lang Manna, bis sie in bewohntes Land kamen. Sie aßen Manna, bis sie die Grenze von Kanaan erreichten.	35 Now the sons of Israel ate manna for forty years, until they arrived in a habitable land. With this food they were nourished, even until they touched the borders of the land of Canaan.
36 Ein Gomer ist der zehnte Teil eines Efa.	36 Now an omer is a tenth part of an ephah.
