EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL	NEW JERUSALEM
1 An diesem Tag erinnerte sich Tobit an das Geld, das er in der Stadt Rages in Medien bei Gabaël hinterlegt hatte.	1 The same day Tobit remembered the silver that he had left with Gabael at Rhages in Media
2 Er dachte: Ich habe mir den Tod gewünscht. Warum soll ich nicht meinen Sohn Tobias rufen und ihm von dem Geld erzählen, bevor ich sterbe?	2 and thought, 'I have come to the point of praying for death; I should do wel to cal my son Tobias andtel him about the money before I die.'
3 Er rief ihn also und sagte: Mein Sohn, wenn ich gestorben bin, begrab mich! Lass deine Mutter nicht im Stich, sondern halte sie in Ehren, solange sie lebt. Tu, was sie erfreut, und mach ihr keinen Kummer!	3 He summoned his son Tobias and told him, 'When I die, give me an honourable burial. Honour yourmother, and never abandon her al the days of your life. Do al that she wants, and give her no reason for sorrow.
4 Denk daran, mein Sohn, dass sie deinetwegen viel Beschwerden hatte, als sie dich in ihrem Schoß trug. Wenn sie gestorben ist, begrab sie an meiner Seite im selben Grab!	4 Remember, my child, al the risks she ran for your sake when you were in her womb. 5 Denk alle Tage an den Herrn, unseren Gott, mein Sohn, und hüte dich davor, zu sündigen und seine Gebote zu übertreten. Handle gerecht, solange du lebst; geh nicht auf den Wegen des Unrechts!	5 'My child, be faithful to the Lord all your days. Never entertain the wil to sin or to transgress his laws.Do good works all the days of your life, never fol ow ways that are not upright;
6 Denn wenn du dich an die Wahrheit hältst, wirst du bei allem, was du tust, erfolgreich sein.	6 for if you act in truthfulness, you wil be successful in al your actions, as everyone is who practises whatis upright.
7 Allen, die gerecht handeln, hilf aus Barmherzigkeit mit dem, was du hast. Sei nicht kleinlich, wenn du Gutes tust. Wende deinen Blick niemals ab, wenn du einen Armen siehst, dann wird auch Gott seinen Blick nicht von dir abwenden.	7 'Set aside part of your goods for almsgiving. Never turn your face from the poor and God will never turnhis from you.
8 Hast du viel, so gib reichlich von dem, was du besitzt; hast du wenig, dann zögere nicht, auch mit dem Wenigen Gutes zu tun.	8 Measure your alms by what you have; if you have much, give more; if you have little, do not be afraid togive less in alms.
9 Auf diese Weise wirst du dir einen kostbaren Schatz für die Zeit der Not ansammeln.	9 So doing, you wil lay up for yourself a great treasure for the day of necessity.
10 Denn Gutes zu tun rettet vor dem Tod und bewahrt vor dem Weg in die Finsternis.	10 For almsgiving delivers from death and saves people from passing down to darkness.
11 Wer aus Barmherzigkeit hilft, der bringt dem Höchsten eine Gabe dar, die ihm gefällt.	11 Almsgiving is a most effective offering for all those who do it in the presence of the Most High.
12 Mein Sohn, hüte dich vor jeder Art von Unzucht! Vor allem: nimm eine Frau aus dem Stamm deiner Väter! Nimm keine fremde Frau, die nicht zum Volk deines Vaters gehört; denn wir stammen von Propheten ab. Mein Sohn, denk an Noach, Abraham, Isaak und Jakob, unsere ersten Vorfahren! Sie alle haben Frauen aus ihrem Stamm geheiratet und sind mit Kindern gesegnet worden; ihre Nachkommen werden das Land besitzen.	12 'My child, avoid al loose conduct. Choose a wife of your father's stock. Do not take a foreign wifeoutside your father's tribe, because we are the children of the prophets. Remember Noah, Abraham, Isaac andJacob, our ancestors from the beginning. Al of them took wives from their own kindred, and they were blessed intheir children, and their race wil inherit the earth.
13 Darum liebe die Brüder aus deinem Stamm, mein Sohn, fühle dich nicht erhaben über deine Verwandten und die Söhne und Töchter deines Volkes und sei nicht zu stolz, dir aus ihrer Mitte eine Frau zu nehmen. Denn Stolz führt ins Verderben und bringt Zerrüttung mit sich. Auch Charakterlosigkeit führt zu Erniedrigung und großer Not; die Charakterlosigkeit ist nämlich die Mutter des Hungers.	13 You, too, my child, must love your own brothers; never presume to despise your brothers, the sonsand daughters of your people; choose your wife from among them. For pride brings ruin and much worry;idleness causes need and poverty, for the mother of famine is idleness.
14 Wenn einer für dich gearbeitet hat, dann enthalt ihm seinen Lohn nicht vor bis zum nächsten Tag, sondern zahl ihn sofort aus! Wenn du Gott auf diese Weise dienst, wird man auch dir deinen Lohn auszahlen. Gib Acht auf dich bei allem, was du tust, mein Sohn, und zeig durch dein Benehmen, dass du gut erzogen bist.	14 'Do not keep back until next day the wages of those who work for you; pay them at once. If you serveGod you will be rewarded. Be careful, my child, in al you do, wel -disciplined in al your behaviour.
15 Was dir selbst verhasst ist, das mute auch einem anderen nicht zu! Betrink dich nicht; der Rausch soll nicht dein Begleiter sein.	15 Do to no one what you would not want done to you. Do not drink wine to the point of drunkenness; donot let excess be your travel ing companion.
16 Gib dem Hungrigen von deinem Brot und dem Nackten von deinen Kleidern! Wenn du Überfluss hast, dann tu damit Gutes und sei nicht kleinlich, wenn du Gutes tust.	16 'Give your bread to those who are hungry, and your clothes to those who lack clothing. Of whateveryou own in plenty, devote a proportion to almsgiving; and when you give alms, do it ungrudgingly.
17 Spende dein Brot beim Begräbnis der Gerechten, gib es nicht den Sündern!	17 Be generous with bread and wine on the graves of upright people, but not for the sinner.
18 Such nur bei Verständigen Rat; einen brauchbaren Ratschlag verachte nicht!	18 'Ask advice of every wise person; never scorn any profitable advice.
19 Preise Gott, den Herrn, zu jeder Zeit; bitte ihn, dass dein Weg geradeaus führt und dass alles, was du tust und planst, ein gutes Ende nimmt. Denn kein Volk ist Herr seiner Pläne, sondern der Herr selbst gibt alles Gute und er erniedrigt, wen er will, wie es ihm gefällt. Denk also an meine Lehren, mein Sohn! Lass sie dir nie aus dem Herzen reißen!	19 Bless the Lord God in everything; beg him to guide your ways and bring your paths and purposes totheir end. For wisdom is not the property of every nation; their desire for what is good is conferred by the Lord. Athis will he lifts up or he casts down to the depths of the dwelling of the dead. So now, my child, remember theseprecepts and never let them fade from your heart.
20 Und jetzt will ich dir noch etwas sagen: Ich habe Gabaël, dem Bruder des Gabrija, in der Stadt Rages in Medien zehn Talente Silber zur Aufbewahrung anvertraut.	20 'Now, my child, I must tell you I have left ten talents of silver with Gabael son of Gabrias, at Rhages inMedia.

Du hast ein großes Vermögen, wenn du nur Gott fürchtest, alle Sünde meidest und das tust, was ihm gefällt.	21 Do not be afraid, my child, if we have grown poor. You have great wealth if you fear God, if you shun every kind of sin and if you do what is pleasing to the Lord your God.'
