EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ahab hatte siebzig Söhne in Samaria. Jehu sandte nun Briefe nach Samaria an die Fürsten der Stadt, an die Ältesten und die Erzieher der Söhne Ahabs. Darin schrieb er:	1 There were seventy of Ahab's sons in Samaria. Jehu sent to Samaria, to the authorities of the city, tothe elders and to the guardians of Ahab's children. He said,
2 Wenn jetzt dieses Schreiben zu euch kommt, bedenkt: Bei euch sind die Söhne eures Herrn. Ihr habt die Wagen und die Pferde, eine befestigte Stadt und die Waffen.	2 'Now, when this letter reaches you, you have your master's sons with you; you also have chariots andhorses, a fortified city and weapons.
3 Seht euch nach dem besten und tüchtigsten unter den Söhnen eures Herrn um, setzt ihn auf den Thron seines Vaters und kämpft für das Haus eures Herrn!	3 See which of your master's sons is the best and worthiest, put him on his father's throne and fight for your master's dynasty!'
4 Doch sie bekamen große Angst und sagten: Die beiden Könige konnten ihm nicht standhalten. Wie sollten wir es können?	4 They were utterly terrified. 'We have seen how the two kings could not stand up to him,' they said, 'sohow could we?'
5 Daher ließen der Palastvorsteher, der Stadtoberste, die Ältesten und die Erzieher dem Jehu melden: Wir sind deine Knechte und wollen alles tun, was du uns befiehlst; wir werden keinen König aufstellen. Tu, was du für richtig hältst.	5 Consequently the master of the palace, the governor of the city, the elders and the guardians sentword to Jehu, 'We are your servants. We shal do whatever you order us. We shall not proclaim a king; act asyou think best.'
6 Darauf schrieb er einen zweiten Brief an sie mit folgendem Inhalt: Wenn ihr auf meiner Seite steht und meinen Befehlen gehorchen wollt, dann nehmt die Köpfe der Söhne eures Herrn und kommt morgen um diese Zeit zu mir nach Jesreel! Die siebzig Söhne des Königs waren bei den Großen der Stadt, die sie erzogen.	6 Jehu then wrote them a second letter. He said, 'If you are for me and if you are prepared to acceptorders from me, take the heads of the men of your master's family and come to me at Jezreel by this timetomorrow.' (There were seventy of Ahab's sons being educated there by the leading men of the city.)
7 Sobald der Brief angekommen war, ergriff man die Söhne des Königs, machte alle siebzig nieder, legte ihre Köpfe in Körbe und schickte sie zu Jehu nach Jesreel.	7 When this letter reached them, they took the king's sons and butchered al seventy of them, put theirheads in baskets and sent them to him at Jezreel.
8 Als der Bote mit der Meldung eintraf, dass man die Köpfe der Königssöhne gebracht habe, befahl Jehu: Schichtet sie bis zum Morgen in zwei Haufen vor dem Tor auf!	8 The messenger came and told Jehu, 'They have brought the heads of the king's sons.' 'Leave them intwo heaps at the entrance to the gate until morning,' he replied.
9 Am nächsten Morgen ging er hinaus, trat vor das Volk und sagte: Ihr seid ohne Schuld. Ich bin es, der die Verschwörung gegen meinen Herrn angezettelt und ihn getötet hat. Doch wer hat diese alle erschlagen?	9 When morning came, he went out and, standing, said to all the people, 'No guilt attaches to you! I didindeed plot against my master and have kil ed him; but what about al these? Who struck them?
10 Erkennt also, dass keine der Drohungen unerfüllt bleibt, die der Herr gegen das Haus Ahab ausgesprochen hat. Der Herr hat das getan, was er durch seinen Knecht Elija verkündet hat.	10 Know, then, that nothing will fail to be fulfil ed of the prophecy uttered by Yahweh against the Houseof Ahab; Yahweh has done what he said through his servant Elijah.'
11 Hierauf ließ Jehu alle vom Haus Ahab erschlagen, die noch in Jesreel übrig geblieben waren, alle Großen und Vertrauten Ahabs, auch alle seine Priester; keinen von ihnen ließ er entkommen.	11 Jehu then kil ed every member of the House of Ahab surviving in Jezreel, all his leading men, hisclose friends, his priests; he did not leave a single one alive.
12 Dann brach er auf, um nach Samaria zu ziehen. Als er unterwegs bei Bet-Eked-Roïm war,	12 Jehu then set out for Samaria. As he was on his way, at Beth-Eked of the Shepherds,
13 traf er die Brüder Ahasjas, des Königs von Juda. Er fragte sie: Wer seid ihr? Sie antworteten: Wir sind die Brüder Ahasjas und sind gekommen, um die Söhne des Königs und die Söhne der Herrin zu begrüßen.	13 he met the brothers of Ahaziah king of Judah. 'Who are you?' he asked. 'We are Ahaziah's brothers,'they replied, 'and we are on our way to pay our respects to the king's sons and the queen mother's sons.'
14 Da befahl er: Ergreift sie lebendig! Man ergriff sie lebendig und machte sie am Brunnen von Bet-Eked nieder. Es waren zweiundvierzig Mann; keinen von ihnen ließ er am Leben.	14 'Take them alive,' he said. They took them alive, and he slaughtered them at the storage-wel of Beth-Eked, forty-two of them; he did not spare a single one.
15 Von da zog er weiter und traf Jonadab, den Sohn Rechabs, der ihm entgegenkam. Er grüßte ihn und fragte: Ist dein Herz aufrichtig gegen mich wie mein Herz gegen dich? Jonadab antwortete: So ist es. (Da sagte Jehu:) Wenn es so ist, dann reich mir deine Hand! Da reichte er ihm die Hand und Jehu nahm ihn zu sich auf den Wagen	15 Leaving there, he came on Jehonadab son of Rechab who was on his way to meet him. He greetedhim and said, 'Is your heart true to mine, as my heart is to yours?' Jehonadab replied, 'Yes.' 'If so,' Jehu said,'give me your hand.' Jehonadab gave him his hand, and Jehu took him up beside him in his chariot.
16 und sagte: Komm mit mir und sieh meinen Eifer für den Herrn! So ließ er ihn bei sich im Wagen fahren.	16 'Come with me,' he said, 'and witness my zeal for Yahweh,' and took him along in his chariot.
17 Als er nach Samaria kam, ließ er alle erschlagen, die vom Haus Ahab dort noch übrig geblieben waren. Sie wurden ausgerottet, wie es der Herr zu Elija gesagt hatte.	17 When he entered Samaria, he kil ed al the survivors of Ahab's family there; he destroyed it, asYahweh had told Elijah it would happen.
18 Jehu versammelte das ganze Volk und trug ihm vor: Ahab hat Baal nur wenig gedient; Jehu wird ihm eifriger dienen.	18 Then Jehu assembled al the people. 'Ahab did Baal some smal service,' he said, 'but Jehu wil dohim a great one.
19 Ruft jetzt alle Propheten Baals, alle seine Diener und Priester zu mir! Keiner darf fernbleiben; denn ich will ein großes Schlachtopfer für Baal darbringen. Wer nicht erscheint, soll sein Leben verlieren. Jehu tat dies aus Hinterlist, weil er die Baalsdiener vernichten wollte.	19 Now cal me al the prophets of Baal and al his priests. Not one is to be absent: I have a greatsacrifice to offer to Baal. If anyone is absent, he wil forfeit his life.' This was a trick on Jehu's part to destroy thedevotees of Baal.
20 Darauf befahl Jehu: Bereitet eine Festversammlung zur Ehre Baals vor! Und um sie einzuberufen,	20 'Summon a sacred assembly for Baal,' he commanded; and they summoned it.
21 sandte Jehu Boten durch ganz Israel. Alle Baalsdiener kamen; es gab keinen, der fernblieb. Sie betraten den Baalstempel, der sich von einem Ende zum andern füllte.	21 Jehu sent messengers throughout Israel, and all the devotees of Baal arrived, not a man was left whodid not attend. They crowded into the temple of Baal until it was full from wal to wall.
22 Nun befahl Jehu dem Verwalter der Kleiderkammer, jedem Baalsdiener ein Kleid zu reichen. Nachdem dieser die Gewänder überreicht hatte,	22 Jehu then said to the keeper of the wardrobe, 'Bring out vestments for al the devotees of Baal'; hebrought out the vestments for them.
23 betrat Jehu mit Jonadab, dem Sohn Rechabs, den Baalstempel und forderte die Baalsdiener auf: Vergewissert euch, dass nur Baalsdiener hier sind und dass kein Diener Jahwes sich unter euch befindet.	23 Jehu then went into the temple of Baal with Jehonadab son of Rechab and said to Baal's devotees,'Make quite sure that there are no devotees of Yahweh in here with you, but only devotees of Baal.'
24 Darauf begannen sie, Schlacht- und Brandopfer darzubringen. Jehu hatte aber draußen achtzig Mann aufgestellt und ihnen gesagt: Wer einen von den Männern, die ich in eure Hand gebe, entkommen lässt, wird mit seinem Leben dafür büßen.	24 He then proceeded to present sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had stationed eighty of hismen outside, having said, 'Whoever lets one of the people go whom I am now putting within your clutches, wilpay for it with his life.'
25 Nach Beendigung des Brandopfers befahl er den Läufern und ihren Hauptleuten: Kommt her und macht sie nieder! Keiner darf entrinnen. Die Läufer und ihre Hauptleute erschlugen sie mit scharfem Schwert und warfen die Leichen hinaus. Dann machten sie sich über den Tempel des Baal her,	25 When he had finished making the burnt offering, he gave the order to the guards and equerries, 'Goin, strike them down! Let no one out!' The guards and equerries went in, putting everyone to the sword al theway to the sanctuary of Baal's temple.
26 schafften das Steinmal des Baalstempels weg und verbrannten es.	26 They took the sacred pole out of Baal's temple and burned it.
27 Sie zerschlugen das Steinmal des Baal, rissen den Baalstempel nieder und machten ihn zu einer Stätte des Unrats; das blieb er bis zum heutigen Tag.	27 They demolished Baal's image and demolished Baal's temple too, making it into a latrine, which it stilis today.
28 So beseitigte Jehu den Baal aus Israel.	28 Thus Jehu rid Israel of Baal.
29 Doch von den Sünden, zu denen Jerobeam, der Sohn Nebats, Israel verführt hatte, den goldenen Kälbern in Bet-El und Dan, ließ Jehu nicht ab.	29 Even so, Jehu did not give up the sins into which Jeroboam son of Nebat had led Israel, the goldencalves of Bethel and Dan.
30 Der Herr sprach zu Jehu: Weil du mein Vorhaben genau vollstreckt und am Haus Ahab alles ausgeführt hast, was ich ihm zugedacht hatte, sollen Nachkommen von dir bis in das vierte Geschlecht auf dem Thron Israels sitzen.	30 Yahweh said to Jehu, 'Since you have done wel in carrying out what pleases me, and have doneeverything I required to be done to the House of Ahab, your sons wil occupy the throne of Israel down to thefourth generation.'
31 Doch Jehu war nicht darauf bedacht, mit ganzem Herzen das Gesetz des Herrn, des Gottes Israels, zu befolgen. Er ließ nicht von den Sünden ab, zu denen Jerobeam die Israeliten verführt hatte.	31 Jehu, however, did not faithful y and wholeheartedly fol ow the law of Yahweh, God of Israel; he didnot give up the sins into which Jeroboam son of Nebat had led Israel.
32 In jenen Tagen begann der Herr, Israel zu verkleinern. Hasaël schlug sie in allen Gebieten Israels	32 At that time Yahweh began to whittle Israel down, and Hazael defeated the Israelites throughout theterritory east of the Jordan:
33 östlich des Jordan: Er verwüstete das ganze Land Gilead, das Gebiet der Stämme Gad, Ruben und Manasse bis nach Aroër am Arnon, Gilead und den Baschan.	33 the whole territory of Gilead -- of the Gadites, the Reubenites and the Manassehites -- from Aroer onthe River Arnon: Gilead and Bashan.
34 Die übrige Geschichte Jehus, alle seine Taten und Erfolge, sind aufgezeichnet in der Chronik der Könige von Israel.	34 The rest of the history of Jehu, his entire career, al his prowess, is this not recorded in the Book ofthe Annals of the Kings of Israel?
35 Jehu entschlief zu seinen Vätern; man begrub ihn in Samaria. Sein Sohn Joahas wurde König an seiner Stelle.	35 Then he fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria; his son Jehoahaz succeeded him.
36 Die Zeit, die Jehu in Samaria König von Israel war, betrug achtundzwanzig Jahre.	36 Jehu's reign over Israel in Samaria lasted twenty-eight years.
