1 Während Jerobeam am Altar stand, um zu opfern, kam ein Gottesmann aus Juda im Auftrag des Herrn nach Bet- El.	1 And behold, by the word of the Lord, a man of God went from Judah to Bethel, when Jeroboam was standing over the altar, and burning incense.
2 Er rief im Auftrag des Herrn gegen den Altar: Altar, Altar! So spricht der Herr: Dem Haus David wird ein Sohn geboren mit Namen Joschija. Dieser wird auf dir die Höhenpriester hinschlachten, die auf dir opfern, und die Gebeine von Menschen wird man auf dir verbrennen.	2 And by the word of the Lord, he cried out against the altar. And he said: “O altar, O altar! Thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, a son will be born to the house of David, Josiah by name. And upon you, he will immolate the priests of the high places, who now burn incense upon you. And upon you, he will burn up the bones of men.’ ”
3 Er gab an jenem Tag auch ein Zeichen und sprach: Das ist das Zeichen dafür, dass der Herr gesprochen hat: Der Altar wird zerbersten und die Asche auf ihm wird zerstreut werden.	3 And he gave a sign on the same day, saying: “This will be the sign that the Lord has spoken. Behold, the altar shall be torn apart, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.”
4 Als der König die Worte hörte, die der Gottesmann gegen den Altar in Bet-El ausrief, streckte er am Altar seine Hand aus und befahl: Nehmt ihn fest! Doch die Hand, die er gegen ihn ausgestreckt hatte, erstarrte; er konnte sie nicht mehr zurückziehen.	4 And when the king had heard the word of the man of God, which he had cried out against the altar at Bethel, he extended his hand from the altar, saying, “Apprehend him!” But his hand, which he had extended against him, withered. And he was unable to draw it back to himself.
5 Der Altar aber zerbarst und die Asche auf ihm wurde zerstreut, wie es der Gottesmann im Auftrag des Herrn als Zeichen verkündet hatte.	5 Also, the altar was torn apart, and the ashes were poured out from the altar, in accord with the sign that the man of God had predicted by the word of the Lord.
6 Nun ergriff der König das Wort und sagte zu dem Gottesmann: Besänftige doch den Herrn, deinen Gott, und bete für mich, dass ich meine Hand wieder an mich ziehen kann. Da besänftigte der Gottesmann den Herrn und der König konnte seine Hand wieder an sich ziehen; sie war wie zuvor.	6 And the king said to the man of God, “Entreat the face of the Lord your God, and pray for me, so that my hand may be restored to me.” And the man of God prayed before the face of the Lord, and the hand of the king was restored to him, and it became as it had been before.
7 Darauf sagte der König zum Gottesmann: Komm in mein Haus und stärke dich! Auch möchte ich dir ein Geschenk geben.	7 Then the king said to the man of God: “Come home with me, so that you may dine. And I will give you gifts.”
8 Der Gottesmann aber erwiderte dem König: Ich werde nicht mit dir gehen, auch wenn du mir die Hälfte deines Hauses gibst. Ich werde an diesem Ort weder essen noch trinken.	8 And the man of God responded to the king: “Even if you will give me one half part of your house, I will not go with you, nor eat bread, nor drink water in this place.
9 Denn so wurde mir durch das Wort des Herrn befohlen: Du darfst dort weder essen noch trinken; und auf dem Weg, den du gekommen bist, darfst du nicht zurückkehren.	9 For so it was commanded to me by the word of the Lord, ordering: ‘You shall not eat bread, and you shall not drink water, nor shall you return by the way that you came.’ ”
10 Daher schlug er einen anderen Weg ein und kehrte nicht auf dem Weg zurück, auf dem er nach Bet-El gekommen war.	10 Then he departed by another way, and he did not return along the way that he had traveled to Bethel.
11 In Bet-El aber wohnte ein alter Prophet. Als dessen Söhne heimkamen, erzählten sie ihm alles, was der Gottesmann an diesem Tag in Bet-El getan und was er zum König gesagt hatte.	11 Now a certain elderly prophet was living in Bethel. His sons went to him, and they described to him all the works which the man of God had accomplished on that day in Bethel. And they described to their father the words that he had spoken to the king.
12 Darauf fragte sie der Vater: Auf welchem Weg ist er fortgezogen? Die Söhne hatten gesehen, welchen Weg der Gottesmann, der aus Juda gekommen war, eingeschlagen hatte.	12 And their father said to them, “By which way did he depart?” His sons showed him the way by which the man of God, who had come from Judah, had departed.
13 Da befahl er ihnen: Sattelt mir den Esel! Sie taten es und er stieg auf,	13 And he said to his sons, “Saddle the donkey for me.” And when they had saddled it, he climbed on,
14 ritt dem Gottesmann nach und traf ihn unter einer Eiche sitzend an. Er fragte ihn: Bist du der Gottesmann, der aus Juda gekommen ist? Jener antwortete: Ich bin es.	14 and he went away after the man of God. And he found him sitting under a terebinth tree. And he said to him, “Are you the man of God who came from Judah?” And he responded, “I am.”
15 Da bat er ihn: Komm in mein Haus und iss Brot mit mir!	15 And he said to him, “Come home with me, so that you may eat bread.”
16 Doch jener entgegnete: Ich kann nicht mit dir zurückkehren und werde an diesem Ort mit dir weder essen noch trinken.	16 But he said: “I am not able to turn back, nor to go with you. Neither will I eat bread, or drink water in this place.
17 Denn im Auftrag des Herrn ist das Wort an mich ergangen: Du darfst dort weder essen noch trinken und auf dem Weg, den du gekommen bist, darfst du nicht zurückkehren.	17 For the Lord has spoken to me, by the word of the Lord, saying, “You shall not eat bread, and you shall not drink water in that place, nor shall you return by the way that you arrived.”
18 Der andere aber sagte: Auch ich bin ein Prophet wie du und ein Engel hat mir im Auftrag des Herrn befohlen: Hol ihn zurück! Er soll in dein Haus kommen, um zu essen und zu trinken. So belog er ihn.	18 And he said to him: “I, too, am a prophet like you. And an Angel spoke to me, by the word of the Lord, saying, ‘Lead him back with you to your house, so that he may eat bread, and drink water.’ ” And so he deceived him.
19 Nun kehrte er um und aß und trank im Haus des Propheten.	19 And he led him back with him. Then he ate bread and drank water in his house.
20 Während sie bei Tisch saßen, erging das Wort des Herrn an den Propheten, der ihn zurückgeholt hatte,	20 And while they were sitting at table, the word of the Lord came to the prophet who had led him back.
21 und er rief es dem Gottesmann aus Juda zu: So spricht der Herr: Weil du gegen den Befehl des Herrn gehandelt und das Verbot übertreten hast, das dir der Herr, dein Gott, auferlegt hat,	21 And he cried out to the man of God who had arrived from Judah, saying: “Thus says the Lord: Because you were not obedient to the mouth of the Lord, and you did not keep the commandment that the Lord your God instructed to you,
22 weil du zurückgekehrt bist und an dem Ort gegessen und getrunken hast, an dem zu essen und zu trinken er dir verboten hatte, darum soll deine Leiche nicht in das Grab deiner Väter kommen.	22 and you turned back, and ate bread, and drank water in the place where he commanded you that you should not eat bread, nor drink water: your dead body shall not be carried back to the sepulcher of your fathers.”
23 Nachdem der Gottesmann gegessen und getrunken hatte, sattelte der Prophet, der ihn zurückgeholt hatte, für ihn den Esel.	23 And when he had eaten and had drunk, he saddled his donkey for the prophet whom he had led back.
24 Er zog fort; doch unterwegs fiel ihn ein Löwe an und tötete ihn. Seine Leiche lag hingestreckt am Weg und der Esel stand neben ihr. Auch der Löwe blieb neben der Leiche stehen.	24 And when he had departed, a lion found him along the way, and it killed him, and his dead body was left upon the road. Now the donkey was standing beside him. And the lion was standing beside the dead body.
25 Die Leute, die vorübergingen, sahen die Leiche am Weg liegen und den Löwen neben ihr stehen. Sie kamen und erzählten es in der Stadt, in der der alte Prophet wohnte.	25 And behold, men who were passing by saw the dead body lying in the road, with the lion standing beside the body. And they went and made it widely known in the city where that elderly prophet was living.
26 Als der Prophet, der ihn vom Weg zurückgeholt hatte, davon hörte, sagte er: Das ist der Gottesmann, der gegen den Befehl des Herrn gehandelt hat. Darum hat ihn der Herr dem Löwen preisgegeben und dieser hat ihn zerrissen und getötet, wie es der Herr ihm angekündigt hatte.	26 And when that prophet, who had led him back from the way, had heard it, he said: “It is the man of God, who was disobedient to the mouth of the Lord. And the Lord has delivered him to the lion. And it has torn him apart and killed him, in accord with the word of the Lord, which he spoke to him.”
27 Dann befahl er seinen Söhnen: Sattelt mir den Esel! Sie taten es	27 And he said to his sons, “Saddle a donkey for me.” And when they had saddled it,
28 und er machte sich auf und fand die Leiche am Weg hingestreckt; der Esel und der Löwe standen neben ihr. Der Löwe hatte die Leiche nicht gefressen und den Esel nicht zerrissen.	28 and he had departed, he found the dead body lying on the road, with the donkey and the lion standing beside the dead body. The lion did not eat from the dead body, nor did it harm the donkey.
29 Der Prophet hob nun die Leiche auf, legte sie auf den Esel und kam mit ihr in die Stadt zurück, um dem Gottesmann die Totenklage zu halten und ihn zu begraben.	29 Then the prophet took the dead body of the man of God, and he placed it upon the donkey, and returning, he brought it into the city of the elderly prophet, so that he might mourn for him.
30 Er bestattete ihn in seinem eigenen Grab und man klagte um ihn: Ach, mein Bruder!	30 And he placed his dead body in his own sepulcher. And they mourned for him, saying: “Alas! Alas! My brother!”
31 Nachdem er ihn begraben hatte, sagte er zu seinen Söhnen: Wenn ich gestorben bin, bringt mich in das Grab, in dem der Gottesmann beigesetzt ist, und legt meine Gebeine neben die seinen!	31 And when they had mourned over him, he said to his sons: “When I will have died, bury me in the sepulcher in which the man of God was buried. Place my bones beside his bones.
32 Denn das Wort, das er im Auftrag des Herrn gegen den Altar in Bet-El und gegen alle Höhentempel in den Städten Samariens gesprochen hat, wird in Erfüllung gehen.	32 For certainly, the word will arrived, which he predicted by the word of the Lord, against the altar, which is in Bethel, and against all the shrines of the high places, which are in the cities of Samaria.”
33 Jerobeam kehrte auch nach diesem Ereignis von seinem bösen Weg nicht um. Er bestellte weiterhin aus allen Teilen des Volkes Priester für die Kulthöhen; jeden, der es wünschte, setzte er als Höhenpriester ein.	33 After these words, Jeroboam did not turn back from his very evil way. Instead, to the contrary, he made priests for the high places out of the least of the people. Whosoever was willing, he filled his hand, and he became a priest of the high places.
34 Das aber wurde dem Haus Jerobeam als Sünde angerechnet, sodass es vernichtet und vom Erdboden vertilgt wurde.	34 And for this reason, the house of Jeroboam sinned, and was uprooted, and was wiped from the face of the earth.
