1 Hernach schlug David die Philister. Er unterwarf sie und nahm ihnen die Zügel der Herrschaft aus der Hand.	1 Now after these things, it happened that David struck the Philistines, and he humbled them. And David took the bridle of tribute from the hand of the Philistines.
2 Auch die Moabiter schlug er. Sie mussten sich nebeneinander auf die Erde legen und er maß die Reihe mit einer Messschnur ab: jeweils zwei Schnurlängen wurden getötet und jeweils eine volle Schnurlänge ließ er am Leben. So wurden die Moabiter David untertan und tributpflichtig.	2 And he struck Moab, and he measured them with a line, leveling them to the ground. Now he measured with two lines, one to kill, and one to keep alive. And Moab was made to serve David under tribute.
3 David schlug auch Hadad- Eser, den Sohn Rehobs, den König von Zoba, als dieser ausgezogen war, um seine Macht am Eufrat wiederzugewinnen.	3 And David struck Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, the king of Zobah, when he set out to rule over the river Euphrates.
4 David nahm von ihm siebzehnhundert Wagenkämpfer und zwanzigtausend Fußsoldaten gefangen; er ließ alle Wagenpferde lähmen und behielt nur hundert (für sich) zurück.	4 And from his troops, David seized one thousand seven hundred horsemen and twenty thousand foot soldiers. And he cut the sinew of the leg in all the chariot horses. But he left aside enough of them for one hundred chariots.
5 Als die Aramäer von Damaskus Hadad-Eser, dem König von Zoba, zu Hilfe kamen, erschlug David 22000 von den Aramäern	5 And the Syrians of Damascus arrived, so that they might bring reinforcements to Hadadezer, the king of Zobah. And David struck down twenty-two thousand men of the Syrians.
6 und besetzte das Aramäerreich von Damaskus. So wurden die Aramäer David untertan und tributpflichtig. Der Herr half David bei allem, was er unternahm.	6 And David positioned a garrison in Syria of Damascus. And Syria served David under tribute. And the Lord assisted David in all things whatsoever that he set out to accomplish.
7 David erbeutete die goldenen Schilde, die die Krieger Hadad-Esers trugen, und brachte sie nach Jerusalem.	7 And David took the armbands of gold, which the servants of Hadadezer had, and he brought them to Jerusalem.
8 In Tebach und Berotai, den Städten Hadad-Esers, erbeutete der König David eine große Menge Bronze.	8 And from Betah and Beeroth, cities of Hadadezer, king David took an exceedingly great amount of brass.
9 Als Toï, der König von Hamat, hörte, dass David das ganze Heer Hadad-Esers geschlagen hatte,	9 Then Toi, the king of Hamath, heard that David had struck down the entire strength of Hadadezer.
10 schickte er seinen Sohn Hadoram mit Gefäßen aus Gold, Silber und Bronze zu König David. Er ließ ihm den Friedensgruß entbieten und ihn dazu beglückwünschen, dass er Hadad-Eser im Krieg geschlagen hatte; Toï lebte nämlich im Krieg mit Hadad- Eser.	10 And so, Toi sent his son Joram to king David, so that he might greet him with congratulations, and give thanks, because he had fought against Hadadezer and had struck him down. For indeed, Toi was the enemy of Hadadezer. And in his hand were vessels of gold, and vessels of silver, and vessels of brass.
11 König David weihte auch diese Gefäße dem Herrn, zusammen mit dem Gold und Silber, das er von all den Völkern, die er unterwarf, erbeutet hatte:	11 And king David also sanctified these things to the Lord, with the silver and gold that he had sanctified from all the peoples whom he had subdued:
12 von Aram und Moab, von den Ammonitern, den Philistern, von Amalek, sowie die Beute von Hadad-Eser, dem Sohn Rehobs, dem König von Zoba.	12 from Syria, and Moab, and the sons Ammon, and the Philistines, and Amalek, and from the best spoils of Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, the king of Zobah.
13 So machte sich David einen Namen. Als er nach dem Sieg über Aram zurückkehrte, schlug er Edom im Salztal, achtzehntausend Mann,	13 David also made a name for himself when he returned from seizing Syria, in the Valley of the Salt Pits, having cut down eighteen thousand.
14 und setzte in Edom Vögte ein. [In ganz Edom setzte er Vögte ein.] So wurde ganz Edom von David unterworfen. Der Herr half David bei allem, was er unternahm.	14 And he positioned guards in Edom, and he stationed a garrison. And all of Edom was made to serve David. And the Lord assisted David in all things whatsoever that he set out to accomplish.
15 David war König von ganz Israel und sorgte für Recht und Gerechtigkeit in seinem ganzen Volk.	15 And David reigned over all of Israel. And David accomplished judgment and justice with all his people.
16 Joab, der Sohn der Zeruja, war Heerführer und Joschafat, der Sohn Ahiluds, war Sprecher des Königs.	16 Now Joab, the son Zeruiah, was over the army. And Jehoshaphat, the son of Ahilud, was the keeper of records.
17 Zadok, der Sohn Ahitubs, und Abjatar, der Sohn Ahimelechs, waren Priester, Seraja war Staatsschreiber.	17 And Zadok, the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech, the son of Abiathar, were the priests. And Seraiah was the scribe.
18 Benaja, der Sohn Jojadas, war der Befehlshaber der Kereter und Peleter. Auch die Söhne Davids waren Priester.	18 And Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, was over the Cherethites and Pelethites. But the sons of David were priests.
