1 Zur Zeit Davids herrschte drei Jahre hintereinander eine Hungersnot. Da suchte David den Herrn auf (um ihn zu befragen). Der Herr sagte: Auf Saul und seinem Haus lastet eine Blutschuld, weil er die Gibeoniter getötet hat.	1 Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David inquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.
2 Da rief der König die Gibeoniter zu sich und redete mit ihnen. Die Gibeoniter stammten nicht von den Söhnen Israels ab, sondern von einem Rest der Amoriter. Obwohl die Israeliten sich ihnen gegenüber mit einem Eid (zum Wohlwollen) verpflichtet hatten, versuchte Saul in seinem Eifer für die Söhne Israels und Judas, sie zu vernichten.	2 And the king called the Gibeonites, and said unto them; (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn unto them: and Saul sought to slay them in his zeal to the children of Israel and Judah.)
3 David sagte also zu den Gibeonitern: Was soll ich für euch tun? Womit kann ich Sühne leisten, damit ihr dem Erbe des Herrn wieder Segen bringt?	3 Wherefore David said unto the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? and wherewith shall I make the atonement, that ye may bless the inheritance of the LORD?
4 Die Gibeoniter antworteten ihm: Wir wollen weder Silber noch Gold von Saul und seinem Haus; auch steht es uns nicht zu, jemand in Israel zu töten. David sagte: Was meint ihr, was soll ich für euch tun?	4 And the Gibeonites said unto him, We will have no silver nor gold of Saul, nor of his house; neither for us shalt thou kill any man in Israel. And he said, What ye shall say, that will I do for you.
5 Sie sagten zum König: Der Mann, der uns vernichten wollte und der darauf aus war, uns auszurotten, sodass wir uns in keinem Gebiet Israels mehr hätten halten können,	5 And they answered the king, The man that consumed us, and that devised against us that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the coasts of Israel,
6 von dessen Söhnen soll man uns sieben Männer geben. Wir wollen sie vor dem Herrn im Gibea Sauls, des vom Herrn Erwählten, hinrichten. Der König antwortete: Ich will sie euch geben.	6 Let seven men of his sons be delivered unto us, and we will hang them up unto the LORD in Gibeah of Saul, whom the LORD did choose. And the king said, I will give them.
7 Merib-Baal, den Sohn Jonatans, des Sohnes Sauls, aber verschonte der König wegen der Abmachung zwischen David und Jonatan, dem Sohn Sauls, die sie mit einem Eid beim Herrn bekräftigt hatten.	7 But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the LORD's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.
8 Der König nahm Armoni und Mefi-Boschet, die beiden Söhne, die Rizpa, die Tochter Ajas, dem Saul geboren hatte, und die fünf Söhne, die Michal, die Tochter Sauls, dem Adriël, dem Sohn Barsillais aus Mehola, geboren hatte.	8 But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bare unto Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she brought up for Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite:
9 Er lieferte sie den Gibeonitern aus, die sie auf dem Berg vor dem Angesicht des Herrn hinrichteten; so kamen alle sieben auf einmal um. Sie wurden in den ersten Tagen der Ernte getötet, zu Beginn der Gerstenernte.	9 And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the hill before the LORD: and they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest.
10 Rizpa, die Tochter Ajas, aber nahm Sackleinen und legte es für sich auf den Felsen und (sie blieb dort) bei den Toten vom Beginn der Ernte, bis sich Wasser vom Himmel über die Toten ergoss. Sie ließ nicht zu, dass bei Tag die Vögel des Himmels und bei Nacht die Tiere des Feldes an sie herankamen.	10 And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water dropped upon them out of heaven, and suffered neither the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night.
11 Als David erzählt wurde, was Rizpa, die Tochter Ajas und Nebenfrau Sauls, getan hatte,	11 And it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.
12 holte er die Gebeine Sauls und die Gebeine seines Sohnes Jonatan von den Bürgern von Jabesch-Gilead, die sie heimlich vom Marktplatz in Bet-Schean weggenommen hatten, wo die Philister sie aufgehängt hatten, als sie Israel am Gilboa schlugen.	12 And David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabesh-gilead, which had stolen them from the street of Beth-shan, where the Philistines had hanged them, when the Philistines had slain Saul in Gilboa:
13 Er ließ also von dort die Gebeine Sauls und die Gebeine seines Sohnes Jonatan heraufbringen. Dann sammelte man die Gebeine der Hingerichteten ein	13 And he brought up from thence the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son; and they gathered the bones of them that were hanged.
14 und begrub sie zusammen mit den Gebeinen Sauls und seines Sohnes Jonatan in Zela im Land Benjamin, im Grab von Sauls Vater Kisch. Man tat alles, was der König befohlen hatte, und Gott ließ sich daraufhin für das Land gnädig stimmen.	14 And the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son buried they in the country of Benjamin in Zelah, in the sepulchre of Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was intreated for the land.
15 Wieder einmal kam es zum Krieg zwischen den Philistern und Israel. David zog mit seinen Leuten hinab. Als sie gegen die Philister kämpften, wurde David müde.	15 Moreover the Philistines had yet war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines: and David waxed faint.
16 Jischbi aus Nob, ein Rafaïter, dessen Bronze-Speer dreihundert Schekel wog und der mit einem neuen Schwert umgürtet war, sagte, er werde David erschlagen.	16 And Ishbi-benob, which was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear weighed three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he being girded with a new sword, thought to have slain David.
17 Aber Abischai, der Sohn der Zeruja, kam David zu Hilfe und schlug den Philister tot. Damals leisteten die Männer Davids ihm folgenden Schwur: Du wirst nicht mehr mit uns in den Kampf ziehen, damit du nicht die Leuchte Israels auslöschst.	17 But Abishai the son of Zeruiah succoured him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David sware unto him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the light of Israel.
18 Danach kam es bei Gob wieder zum Kampf mit den Philistern. Damals erschlug Sibbechai aus Huscha den Sippai, der zu den Rafaïtern gehörte.	18 And it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Saph, which was of the sons of the giant.
19 Als es wieder einmal bei Gob zum Kampf gegen die Philister kam, erschlug Elhanan, der Sohn Jaïrs aus Betlehem, den Goliat aus Gat, dessen Speer einem Weberbaum glich.	19 And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim, a Bethlehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.
20 Dann kam es noch einmal bei Gat zum Kampf. Da trat ein Mann von riesenhafter Größe auf; er hatte an jeder Hand sechs Finger und an jedem Fuß sechs Zehen, zusammen vierundzwanzig; auch er stammte von Rafa ab.	20 And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant.
21 Als er Israel verhöhnte, erschlug ihn Jonatan, der Sohn von Davids Bruder Schima.	21 And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea the brother of David slew him.
22 Diese vier stammten von Rafa aus Gat ab; sie fielen durch die Hand Davids und seiner Krieger.	22 These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
