Genesis 50

EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Josef warf sich über seinen Vater, weinte um ihn und küsste ihn.	1 At this Joseph threw himself on his father's face, covering it with tears and kisses.
2 Darauf befahl er den Ärzten, die ihm zu Dienste standen, seinen Vater einzubalsamieren. Die Ärzte balsamierten also Israel ein.	2 Then Joseph ordered the doctors in his service to embalm his father. The doctors embalmed Israel,
3 Darüber vergingen vierzig volle Tage, denn so lange dauerte die Einbalsamierung. Die Ägypter beweinten ihn siebzig Tage lang.	3 and it took them forty days, for embalming takes forty days to complete. The Egyptians mourned himfor seventy days.
4 Als die Tage der Trauer vorüber waren, sagte Josef zu den Hofleuten des Pharao: Wenn ich euer Wohlwollen genieße, tragt dem Pharao dieses mein Anliegen vor:	4 When the period of mourning for him was over, Joseph said to Pharaoh's household, 'If you have anyaffection for me, see that this message reaches Pharaoh's ears,
5 Mein Vater hat mich schwören lassen und gesagt: Ich muss sterben; in dem Grab, das ich mir in Kanaan angelegt habe, dort begrabt mich! Nun also möchte ich hinaufziehen und meinen Vater begraben; dann komme ich wieder zurück.	5 "My father put me under oath, saying: I am about to die. In the tomb which I dug for myself in Canaan, that is where you are to bury me. So may I have leave to go up and bury my father, and then come back?" '
6 Da sagte der Pharao: Zieh hinauf, begrabe deinen Vater, wie du geschworen hast.	6 Pharaoh replied, 'Go up and bury your father, as he made you swear to do.'
7 Josef zog hinauf, um seinen Vater zu begraben. Mit ihm zogen alle Hofleute des Pharao, die Ältesten seines Hofes und alle Ältesten Ägyptens,	7 Joseph went up to bury his father, and with him went all Pharaoh's officials, the dignitaries of hispalace and al the dignitaries of Egypt,
8 das ganze Haus Josef, seine Brüder und das Haus seines Vaters. Nur ihre Kinder, ihre Schafe, Ziegen und Rinder ließen sie in Goschen zurück.	8 as wel as all Joseph's family, his brothers and his father's family. The only people they left behind inGoshen were those unfit to travel, and their flocks and cattle.
9 Auch die Wagen und die dazugehörige Mannschaft zogen mit ihm, sodass es ein sehr großer Zug wurde.	9 Chariots and horsemen went up with him too; it was a very large retinue.
10 Als sie nach Goren-Atad jenseits des Jordan gekommen waren, hielten sie dort eine sehr große, würdige Totenklage; sieben Tage hielt er um seinen Vater Trauer.	10 On arriving at Goren-ha-Atad, which is across the Jordan, they there held a long and solemnlamentation, and Joseph observed seven days' mourning for his father.
11 Die Einheimischen, die Kanaaniter, beobachteten die Trauerfeier in Goren-Atad und sagten: Eine würdige Trauerfeier veranstalten da die Ägypter. Darum heißt der Ort Abel-Mizrajim (Ägyptertrauer); er liegt jenseits des Jordan.	11 When the Canaanites, the local inhabitants, witnessed the mourning at Goren-ha-Atad, they said,'This is a solemn act of mourning by the Egyptians,' which is why the place was given the name Abel-Mizraim-itis across the Jordan.
12 Jakobs Söhne taten an Jakob so, wie er ihnen aufgetragen hatte.	12 His sons did what he had ordered them to do for him.
13 Sie brachten ihn nach Kanaan und begruben ihn in der Höhle des Grundstücks von Machpela. Abraham hatte das Grundstück bei Mamre als eigene Grabstätte von dem Hetiter Efron gekauft.	13 His sons carried him to Canaan and buried him in the cave in the field at Machpelah, facing Mamre,which Abraham had bought from Ephron the Hittite as a burial site of his own.
14 Nachdem Josef seinen Vater begraben hatte, kehrte er nach Ägypten zurück, zusammen mit seinen Brüdern und allen, die mitgezogen waren, um seinen Vater zu begraben.	14 Then Joseph returned to Egypt with his brothers and all those who had come up with him to bury hisfather.
15 Als Josefs Brüder sahen, dass ihr Vater tot war, sagten sie: Wenn sich Josef nur nicht feindselig gegen uns stellt und uns alles Böse vergilt, das wir ihm getan haben.	15 Seeing that their father was dead, Joseph's brothers said, 'What if Joseph intends to treat us asenemies and pay us back for al the wrong we did him?'
16 Deshalb ließen sie Josef wissen: Dein Vater hat uns, bevor er starb, aufgetragen:	16 So they sent this message to Joseph: 'Before your father died, he gave us this order:
17 So sagt zu Josef: Vergib doch deinen Brüdern ihre Untat und Sünde, denn Schlimmes haben sie dir angetan. Nun also vergib doch die Untat der Knechte des Gottes deines Vaters! Als man ihm diese Worte überbrachte, musste Josef weinen.	17 "You are to say to Joseph: Now please forgive the crime and faults of your brothers and al thewrong they did you." So now please forgive the crime of the servants of your father's God.' Joseph wept at themessage they sent to him.
18 Seine Brüder gingen dann auch selbst hin, fielen vor ihm nieder und sagten: Hier sind wir als deine Sklaven.	18 Then his brothers went to him themselves and, throwing themselves at his feet, said, 'Take us asyour slaves!'
19 Josef aber antwortete ihnen: Fürchtet euch nicht! Stehe ich denn an Gottes Stelle?	19 But Joseph replied, 'Do not be afraid; is it for me to put myself in God's place?
20 Ihr habt Böses gegen mich im Sinne gehabt, Gott aber hatte dabei Gutes im Sinn, um zu erreichen, was heute geschieht: viel Volk am Leben zu erhalten.	20 The evil you planned to do me has by God's design been turned to good, to bring about the presentresult: the survival of a numerous people.
21 Nun also fürchtet euch nicht! Ich will für euch und eure Kinder sorgen. So tröstete er sie und redete ihnen freundlich zu.	21 So there is no need to be afraid; I shall provide for you and your dependants.' In this way hereassured them by speaking affectionately to them.
22 Josef blieb in Ägypten, er und das Haus seines Vaters. Josef wurde hundertzehn Jahre alt.	22 So Joseph stayed in Egypt with his father's family; and Joseph lived a hundred and ten years.
23 Er sah noch Efraims Söhne und Enkel. Auch die Söhne Machirs, des Sohnes Manasses, kamen auf Josefs Knien zur Welt.	23 Joseph saw the third generation of Ephraim's line, as also the children of Machir son of Manasseh,who were born on Joseph's lap.
24 Dann sprach Josef zu seinen Brüdern: Ich muss sterben. Gott wird sich euer annehmen, er wird euch aus diesem Land heraus und in jenes Land hinaufführen, das er Abraham, Isaak und Jakob mit einem Eid zugesichert hat.	24 At length Joseph said to his brothers, 'I am about to die; but God wil be sure to remember you kindlyand take you out of this country to the country which he promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.'
25 Josef ließ die Söhne Israels schwören: Wenn Gott sich euer annimmt, dann nehmt meine Gebeine von hier mit hinauf!	25 And Joseph put Israel's sons on oath, saying, 'When God remembers you with kindness, be sure totake my bones away from here.'
26 Josef starb im Alter von hundertzehn Jahren. Man balsamierte ihn ein und legte ihn in Ägypten in einen Sarg.	26 Joseph died at the age of a hundred and ten; he was embalmed and laid in a coffin in Egypt.
