1 Die beiden Engel kamen am Abend nach Sodom. Lot saß im Stadttor von Sodom. Als er sie sah, erhob er sich, trat auf sie zu, warf sich mit dem Gesicht zur Erde nieder	1 And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;
2 und sagte: Meine Herren, kehrt doch im Haus eures Knechtes ein, bleibt über Nacht und wascht euch die Füße! Am Morgen könnt ihr euren Weg fortsetzen. Nein, sagten sie, wir wollen im Freien übernachten.	2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.
3 Er redete ihnen aber so lange zu, bis sie mitgingen und bei ihm einkehrten. Er bereitete ihnen ein Mahl, ließ ungesäuerte Brote backen und sie aßen.	3 And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.
4 Sie waren noch nicht schlafen gegangen, da umstellten die Einwohner der Stadt das Haus, die Männer von Sodom, Jung und Alt, alles Volk von weit und breit.	4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:
5 Sie riefen nach Lot und fragten ihn: Wo sind die Männer, die heute Abend zu dir gekommen sind? Heraus mit ihnen, wir wollen mit ihnen verkehren.	5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.
6 Da ging Lot zu ihnen hinaus vor die Tür, schloss sie hinter sich zu	6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,
7 und sagte: Aber meine Brüder, begeht doch nicht ein solches Verbrechen!	7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.
8 Seht, ich habe zwei Töchter, die noch keinen Mann erkannt haben. Ich will sie euch herausbringen. Dann tut mit ihnen, was euch gefällt. Nur jenen Männern tut nichts an; denn deshalb sind sie ja unter den Schutz meines Daches getreten.	8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.
9 Sie aber schrien: Mach dich fort!, und sagten: Kommt da so ein einzelner Fremder daher und will sich als Richter aufspielen! Nun wollen wir es mit dir noch schlimmer treiben als mit ihnen. Sie setzten dem Mann, nämlich Lot, arg zu und waren schon dabei, die Tür aufzubrechen.	9 And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.
10 Da streckten jene Männer die Hand aus, zogen Lot zu sich ins Haus und sperrten die Tür zu.	10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.
11 Dann schlugen sie die Leute draußen vor dem Haus, Groß und Klein, mit Blindheit, sodass sie sich vergebens bemühten, den Eingang zu finden.	11 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.
12 Die Männer sagten dann zu Lot: Hast du hier noch einen Schwiegersohn, Söhne, Töchter oder sonst jemand in der Stadt? Bring sie weg von diesem Ort!	12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:
13 Wir wollen nämlich diesen Ort vernichten; denn schwer ist die Klage, die über die Leute zum Herrn gedrungen ist. Der Herr hat uns geschickt, die Stadt zu vernichten.	13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.
14 Da ging Lot hinaus, redete auf seine Schwiegersöhne ein, die seine Töchter heiraten wollten, und sagte: Macht euch auf und verlasst diesen Ort; denn der Herr will die Stadt vernichten. Aber seine Schwiegersöhne meinten, er mache nur Spaß.	14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.
15 Als die Morgenröte aufstieg, drängten die Engel Lot zur Eile: Auf, nimm deine Frau und deine beiden Töchter, die hier sind, damit du nicht wegen der Schuld der Stadt hinweggerafft wirst.	15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.
16 Da er noch zögerte, fassten die Männer ihn, seine Frau und seine beiden Töchter an der Hand, weil der Herr mit ihm Mitleid hatte, führten ihn hinaus und ließen ihn erst draußen vor der Stadt los.	16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.
17 Während er sie hinaus ins Freie führte, sagte er: Bring dich in Sicherheit, es geht um dein Leben. Sieh dich nicht um und bleib in der ganzen Gegend nicht stehen! Rette dich ins Gebirge, sonst wirst du auch weggerafft.	17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.
18 Lot aber sagte zu ihnen: Nein, mein Herr,	18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:
19 dein Knecht hat doch dein Wohlwollen gefunden. Du hast mir große Gunst erwiesen und mich am Leben gelassen. Ich kann aber nicht ins Gebirge fliehen, sonst lässt mich das Unglück nicht mehr los und ich muss sterben.	19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:
20 Da, die Stadt in der Nähe, dorthin könnte man fliehen. Sie ist doch klein; dorthin will ich mich retten. Ist sie nicht klein? So könnte ich am Leben bleiben.	20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.
21 Er antwortete ihm: Gut, auch das will ich dir gewähren und die Stadt, von der du sprichst, nicht zerstören.	21 And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.
22 Schnell flieh dorthin; denn ich kann nichts unternehmen, bevor du dort angekommen bist. Deshalb nannte er die Stadt Zoar (Kleine).	22 Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
23 Als die Sonne über dem Land aufgegangen und Lot in Zoar angekommen war,	23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.
24 ließ der Herr auf Sodom und Gomorra Schwefel und Feuer regnen, vom Herrn, vom Himmel herab.	24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;
25 Er vernichtete von Grund auf jene Städte und die ganze Gegend, auch alle Einwohner der Städte und alles, was auf den Feldern wuchs.	25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
26 Als Lots Frau zurückblickte, wurde sie zu einer Salzsäule.	26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
27 Am frühen Morgen begab sich Abraham an den Ort, an dem er dem Herrn gegenübergestanden hatte.	27 And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:
28 Er schaute gegen Sodom und Gomorra und auf das ganze Gebiet im Umkreis und sah: Qualm stieg von der Erde auf wie der Qualm aus einem Schmelzofen.	28 And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.
29 Als Gott die Städte der Gegend vernichtete, dachte er an Abraham und ließ Lot mitten aus der Zerstörung fortgeleiten, während er die Städte, in denen Lot gewohnt hatte, von Grund auf zerstörte.	29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.
30 Lot zog von Zoar weiter hinauf und ließ sich mit seinen beiden Töchtern im Gebirge nieder. Er fürchtete sich nämlich, in Zoar zu bleiben, und wollte lieber mit seinen beiden Töchtern in einer Höhle wohnen.	30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.
31 Eines Tages sagte die Ältere zur Jüngeren: Unser Vater wird alt und einen Mann, der mit uns verkehrt, wie es in aller Welt üblich ist, gibt es nicht.	31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:
32 Komm, geben wir unserem Vater Wein zu trinken und legen wir uns zu ihm, damit wir von unserem Vater Kinder bekommen.	32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
33 Sie gaben also ihrem Vater am Abend Wein zu trinken; dann kam die Ältere und legte sich zu ihrem Vater. Er merkte nicht, wie sie sich hinlegte und wie sie aufstand.	33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
34 Am anderen Tag sagte die Ältere zur Jüngeren: Ich habe gestern bei meinem Vater gelegen. Geben wir ihm auch heute Abend Wein zu trinken, dann geh und leg du dich zu ihm. So werden wir von unserem Vater Kinder bekommen.	34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our Father.
35 Sie gaben ihrem Vater also auch an jenem Abend Wein zu trinken; dann legte sich die Jüngere zu ihm. Er merkte nicht, wie sie sich hinlegte und wie sie aufstand.	35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
36 Beide Töchter Lots wurden von ihrem Vater schwanger.	36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.
37 Die Ältere gebar einen Sohn und nannte ihn Moab. Er gilt als Stammvater der Moabiter bis heute.	37 And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.
38 Auch die Jüngere gebar einen Sohn und nannte ihn Ben-Ammi. Er gilt als Stammvater der Ammoniter bis heute.	38 And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.
