Genesis 15

1 Nach diesen Ereignissen erging das Wort des Herrn in einer Vision an Abram: Fürchte dich nicht, Abram, ich bin dein Schild; dein Lohn wird sehr groß sein.	1 And so, these things having been transacted, the word of the Lord came to Abram by a vision, saying: “Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your protector, and your reward is exceedingly great.”
2 Abram antwortete: Herr, mein Herr, was willst du mir schon geben? Ich gehe doch kinderlos dahin und Erbe meines Hauses ist Eliëser aus Damaskus.	2 And Abram said: “Lord God, what will you give to me? I may go without children. And the son of the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus.”
3 Und Abram sagte: Du hast mir ja keine Nachkommen gegeben; also wird mich mein Haussklave beerben.	3 And Abram added: “Yet to me you have not given offspring. And behold, my servant born in my house will be my heir.”
4 Da erging das Wort des Herrn an ihn: Nicht er wird dich beerben, sondern dein leiblicher Sohn wird dein Erbe sein.	4 And immediately the word of the Lord came to him, saying: “This one will not be your heir. But he who will come from your loins, the same will you have for your heir.”
5 Er führte ihn hinaus und sprach: Sieh doch zum Himmel hinauf und zähl die Sterne, wenn du sie zählen kannst. Und er sprach zu ihm: So zahlreich werden deine Nachkommen sein.	5 And he brought him outside, and he said to him, “Take in the heavens, and number the stars, if you can.” And he said to him, “So also will your offspring be.”
6 Abram glaubte dem Herrn und der Herr rechnete es ihm als Gerechtigkeit an.	6 Abram believed God, and it was reputed to him unto justice.
7 Er sprach zu ihm: Ich bin der Herr, der dich aus Ur in Chaldäa herausgeführt hat, um dir dieses Land zu Eigen zu geben.	7 And he said to him, “I am the Lord who led you away from Ur of the Chaldeans, so as to give you this land, and so that you would possess it.”
8 Da sagte Abram: Herr, mein Herr, woran soll ich erkennen, dass ich es zu Eigen bekomme?	8 But he said, “Lord God, in what way may I be able to know that I will possess it?”
9 Der Herr antwortete ihm: Hol mir ein dreijähriges Rind, eine dreijährige Ziege, einen dreijährigen Widder, eine Turteltaube und eine Haustaube!	9 And the Lord responded by saying: “Take for me a cow of three years, and a she-goat of three years, and a ram of three years, also a turtle-dove and a pigeon.”
10 Abram brachte ihm alle diese Tiere, zerteilte sie und legte je eine Hälfte der andern gegenüber; die Vögel aber zerteilte er nicht.	10 Taking all these, he divided them through the middle, and placed both parts opposite one another. But the birds he did not divide.
11 Da stießen Raubvögel auf die Fleischstücke herab, doch Abram verscheuchte sie.	11 And birds descended upon the carcasses, but Abram drove them away.
12 Bei Sonnenuntergang fiel auf Abram ein tiefer Schlaf; große, unheimliche Angst überfiel ihn.	12 And when the sun was setting, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and a dread, great and dark, invaded him.
13 Gott sprach zu Abram: Du sollst wissen: Deine Nachkommen werden als Fremde in einem Land wohnen, das ihnen nicht gehört. Sie werden dort als Sklaven dienen und man wird sie vierhundert Jahre lang hart behandeln.	13 And it was said to him: “Know beforehand that your future offspring will be sojourners in a land not their own, and they will subjugate them in servitude and afflict them for four hundred years.
14 Aber auch über das Volk, dem sie als Sklaven dienen, werde ich Gericht halten und nachher werden sie mit reicher Habe ausziehen.	14 Yet truly, I will judge the nation that they will serve, and after this they will depart with great substance.
15 Du aber wirst in Frieden zu deinen Vätern heimgehen; in hohem Alter wirst du begraben werden.	15 But you will go to your fathers in peace and be buried at a good old age.
16 Erst die vierte Generation wird hierher zurückkehren; denn noch hat die Schuld der Amoriter nicht ihr volles Maß erreicht.	16 But in the fourth generation, they will return here. For the iniquities of the Amorites are not yet completed, even to this present time.”
17 Die Sonne war untergegangen und es war dunkel geworden. Auf einmal waren ein rauchender Ofen und eine lodernde Fackel da; sie fuhren zwischen jenen Fleischstücken hindurch.	17 Then, when the sun had set, there came a dark mist, and there appeared a smoking furnace and a lamp of fire passing between those divisions.
18 An diesem Tag schloss der Herr mit Abram folgenden Bund: Deinen Nachkommen gebe ich dieses Land vom Grenzbach Ägyptens bis zum großen Strom Eufrat,	18 On that day, God formed a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your offspring I will give this land, from the river of Egypt, even to the great river Euphrates:
19 (das Land) der Keniter, der Kenasiter, der Kadmoniter,	19 the land of the Kenites and the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites
20 der Hetiter, der Perisiter, der Rafaïter,	20 and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, likewise the Rephaim,
21 der Amoriter, der Kanaaniter, der Girgaschiter, der Hiwiter und der Jebusiter.	21 and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”
