Hebrews 3

DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly vocation, consider the apostle and high priest of our confession, Jesus:1 Therefore, holy "brothers," sharing in a heavenly calling, reflect on Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession,
Who is faithful to him that made him, as was also Moses in all his house.2 who was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was "faithful in (all) his house."
For this man was counted worthy of greater glory than Moses, by so much as he that hath built the house, hath greater honour than the house.3 But he is worthy of more "glory" than Moses, as the founder of a house has more "honor" than the house itself.
For every house is built by some man: but he that created all things, is God.4 Every house is founded by someone, but the founder of all is God.
And Moses indeed was faithful in all his house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be said:5 Moses was "faithful in all his house" as a "servant" to testify to what would be spoken,
But Christ as the Son in his own house: which house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and glory of hope unto the end.6 but Christ was faithful as a son placed over his house. We are his house, if (only) we hold fast to our confidence and pride in our hope.
Wherefore, as the Holy Ghost saith: To day if you shall hear his voice,7 Therefore, as the holy Spirit says: "Oh, that today you would hear his voice,
Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation; in the day of temptation in the desert,8 'Harden not your hearts as at the rebellion in the day of testing in the desert,
Where your fathers tempted me, proved and saw my works,9 where your ancestors tested and tried me and saw my works
Forty years: for which cause I was offended with this generation, and I said: They always err in heart. And they have not known my ways,10 for forty years. Because of this I was provoked with that generation and I said, "They have always been of erring heart, and they do not know my ways."
As I have sworn in my wrath: If they shall enter into my rest.11 As I swore in my wrath, "They shall not enter into my rest."'"
Take heed, brethren, lest perhaps there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, to depart from the living God.12 Take care, brothers, that none of you may have an evil and unfaithful heart, so as to forsake the living God.
But exhort one another every day, whilst it is called to day, that none of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.13 Encourage yourselves daily while it is still "today," so that none of you may grow hardened by the deceit of sin.
For we are made partakers of Christ: yet so, if we hold the beginning of his substance firm unto the end.14 We have become partners of Christ if only we hold the beginning of the reality firm until the end,
While it is said, To day if you shall hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in that provocation.15 for it is said: "Oh, that today you would hear his voice: 'Harden not your hearts as at the rebellion.'"
For some who heard did provoke: but not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.16 Who were those who rebelled when they heard? Was it not all those who came out of Egypt under Moses?
And with whom was he offended forty years? Was it not with them that sinned, whose carcasses were overthrown in the desert?17 With whom was he "provoked for forty years"? Was it not those who had sinned, whose corpses fell in the desert?
And to whom did he swear, that they should not enter into his rest: but to them that were incredulous?18 And to whom did he "swear that they should not enter into his rest," if not to those who were disobedient?
And we see that they could not enter in, because of unbelief.19 And we see that they could not enter for lack of faith.
