Psalms 91

DOUAI-RHEIMS	JERUSALEM
1 The praise of a canticle for David. He that dwelleth in the aid of the most High, shall abide under the protection of the God of Jacob.	1 Qui habite le secret d'Elyôn passe la nuit à l'ombre de Shaddaï,
2 He shall say to the Lord: Thou art my protector, and my refuge: my God, in him will I trust.	2 disant à Yahvé: Mon abri, ma forteresse, mon Dieu sur qui je compte!
3 For he hath delivered me from the snare of the hunters: and from the sharp word.	3 C'est lui qui t'arrache au filet de l'oiseleur qui s'affaire à détruire;
4 He will overshadow thee with his shoulders: and under his wings thou shalt trust.	4 il te couvre de ses ailes, tu as sous son pennage un abri. Armure et bouclier, sa vérité.
5 His truth shall compass thee with a shield: thou shalt not be afraid of the terror of the night.	5 Tu ne craindras ni les terreurs de la nuit, ni la flèche qui vole de jour,
6 Of the arrow that flieth in the day, of the business that walketh about in the dark: of invasion, or of the noonday devil.	6 ni la peste qui marche en la ténèbre, ni le fléau qui dévaste à midi.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand: but it shall not come nigh thee.	7 Qu'il en tombe mille à tes côtés et 10.000 à ta droite, toi, tu restes hors d'atteinte.
8 But thou shalt consider with thy eyes: and shalt see the reward of the wicked.	8 Il suffit que tes yeux regardent, tu verras le salaire des impies,
9 Because thou, O Lord, art my hope: thou hast made the most High thy refuge.	9 toi qui dis: Yahvé mon abri! et qui fais d'Elyôn ton refuge.
10 There shall no evil come to thee: nor shall the scourge come near thy dwelling.	10 Le malheur ne peut fondre sur toi, ni la plaie approcher de ta tente:
11 For he hath given his angels charge over thee; to keep thee in all thy ways.	11 il a pour toi donné ordre à ses anges de te garder en toutes tes voies.
12 In their hands they shall bear thee up: lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.	12 Sur leurs mains ils te porteront pour qu'à la pierre ton pied ne heurte;
13 Thou shalt walk upon the asp and the basilisk: and thou shalt trample under foot the lion and the dragon.	13 sur le fauve et la vipère tu marcheras, tu fouleras le lionceau et le dragon.
14 Because he hoped in me I will deliver him: I will protect him because he hath known my name.	14 Puisqu'il s'attache à moi, je l'affranchis, je l'exalte puisqu'il connaît mon nom.
15 He shall cry to me, and I will hear him: I am with him in tribulation, I will deliver him, and I will glorify him.	15 Il m'appelle et je lui réponds: "Je suis près de lui dans la détresse, je le délivre et je le glorifie,
16 I will fill him with length of days; and I will shew him my salvation.	16 de longs jours je veux le rassasier et je ferai qu'il voie mon salut.
