DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
A psalm for David himself. Be not emulous of evildoers; nor envy them that work iniquity.1 Of David. Do not be provoked by evildoers; do not envy those who do wrong.
For they shall shortly wither away as grass, and as the green herbs shall quickly fall.2 Like grass they wither quickly; like green plants they wilt away.
Trust in the Lord, and do good, and dwell in the land, and thou shalt be fed with its riches.3 Trust in the LORD and do good that you may dwell in the land and live secure.
Delight in the Lord, and he will give thee the requests of thy heart.4 Find your delight in the LORD who will give you your heart's desire.
Commit thy way to the Lord, and trust in him, and he will do it.5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust that God will act
And he will bring forth thy justice as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.6 And make your integrity shine like the dawn, your vindication like noonday.
Be subject to the Lord and pray to him Envy not the man who prospereth in his way; the man who doth unjust things.7 Be still before the LORD; wait for God. Do not be provoked by the prosperous, nor by malicious schemers.
Cease from anger, and leave rage; have no emulation to do evil.8 Give up your anger, abandon your wrath; do not be provoked; it brings only harm.
For the evildoers shall be cut off : but they that wait upon the Lord shall inherit the land.9 Those who do evil will be cut off, but those who wait for the LORD will possess the land.
For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be : and thou shalt seek his place, and shalt not find it.10 Wait a little, and the wicked will be no more; look for them and they will not be there.
But the meek shall inherit the land, and shall delight in abundance of peace.11 But the poor will possess the land, will delight in great prosperity.
The sinner shall watch the just man : and shall gnash upon him with his teeth.12 The wicked plot against the just and grind their teeth at them;
But the Lord shall laugh at him : for he foreseeth that his day shall come.13 But the LORD laughs at them, knowing their day is coming.
The wicked have drawn out the sword : they have bent their bow. To cast down the poor and needy, to kill the upright of heart.14 The wicked draw their swords; they string their bows To fell the poor and oppressed, to slaughter those whose way is honest.
Let their sword enter into their own hearts, and let their bow be broken.15 Their swords will pierce their own hearts; their bows will be broken.
Better is a little to the just, than the great riches of the wicked.16 Better the poverty of the just than the great wealth of the wicked.
For the arms of the wicked shall be broken in pieces; but the Lord strengtheneth the just.17 The arms of the wicked will be broken; the LORD will sustain the just.
The Lord knoweth the days of undefiled; and their inheritance shall be for ever.18 The LORD watches over the days of the blameless; their heritage lasts forever.
They shall not be confounded in the evil time; and in the days of famine they shall be filled :19 They will not be disgraced when times are hard; in days of famine they will have plenty.
because the wicked shall perish. And the enemies of the Lord, presently after they shall be honoured and exalted, shall come to nothing and vanish like smoke.20 The wicked perish, the enemies of the LORD; Like the beauty of meadows they vanish; like smoke they disappear.
The sinner shall borrow, and not pay again; but the just sheweth mercy and shall give.21 The wicked borrow but do not repay; the just are generous in giving.
For such as bless him shall inherit the land : but such as curse him shall perish.22 For those blessed by the Lord will possess the land, but those accursed will be cut off.
With the Lord shall the steps of a man be directed, and he shall like well his way.23 Those whose steps are guided by the LORD; whose way God approves,
When he shall fall he shall not be bruised, for the Lord putteth his hand under him.24 May stumble, but they will never fall, for the LORD holds their hand.
I have been young, and now am old; and I have not seen the just forsaken, nor his seed seeking bread.25 Neither in my youth, nor now in old age have I ever seen the just abandoned or their children begging bread.
He sheweth mercy, and lendeth all the day long; and his seed shall be in blessing.26 The just always lend generously, and their children become a blessing.
Decline from evil and do good, and dwell for ever and ever.27 Turn from evil and do good, that you may inhabit the land forever.
For the Lord loveth judgment, and will not forsake his saints : they shall be preserved for ever. The unjust shall be punished, and the seed of the wicked shall perish.28 For the LORD loves justice and does not abandon the faithful. When the unjust are destroyed, and the children of the wicked cut off,
But the just shall inherit the land, and shall dwell therein for evermore.29 The just will possess the land and live in it forever.
The mouth of the just shall meditate wisdom : and his tongue shall speak judgment.30 The mouths of the just utter wisdom; their tongues speak what is right.
The law of his God is in his heart, and his steps shall not be supplanted.31 God's teaching is in their hearts; their steps do not falter.
The wicked watcheth the just man, and seeketh to put him to death,32 The wicked spy on the just and seek to kill them.
But the Lord will not leave in his hands; nor condemn him when he shall be judged.33 But the LORD does not leave the just in their power, nor let them be condemned when tried.
Expect the Lord and keep his way : and he will exalt thee to inherit the land : when the sinners shall perish thou shalt see.34 Wait eagerly for the LORD, and keep to the way; God will raise you to possess the land; you will gloat when the wicked are cut off.
I have seen the wicked highly exalted, and lifted up like the cedars of Libanus.35 I have seen ruthless scoundrels, strong as flourishing cedars.
And I passed by, and lo, he was not : and I sought him and his place was not found.36 When I passed by again, they were gone; though I searched, they could not be found.
Keep innocence, and behold justice : for there are remnants for the peaceable man.37 Observe the honest, mark the upright; those at peace with God have a future.
But the unjust shall be destroyed together : the remnants of the wicked shall perish.38 But all sinners will be destroyed; the future of the wicked will be cut off.
But the salvation of the just is from the Lord, and he is their protector in the time of trouble.39 The salvation of the just is from the LORD, their refuge in time of distress.
And the Lord will help them and deliver them : and he will rescue them from the wicked, and save them, because they have hoped in him.40 The LORD helps and rescues them, rescues and saves them from the wicked, because in God they take refuge.
