DIODATI	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 FIGLIUOL mio, se tu ricevi i miei detti, E riponi appo te i miei comandamenti,	1 My son, if you receive my words and treasure my commands,
2 Rendendo il tuo orecchio attento alla Sapienza; Se tu inchini il tuo cuore all’intendimento,	2 Turning your ear to wisdom, inclining your heart to understanding;
3 E se tu chiami la prudenza, E dài fuori la tua voce all’intendimento;	3 Yes, if you call to intelligence, and to understanding raise your voice;
4 Se tu la cerchi come l’argento, E l’investighi come i tesori;	4 If you seek her like silver, and like hidden treasures search her out:
5 Allora tu intenderai il timor del Signore, E troverai la conoscenza di Dio.	5 Then will you understand the fear of the LORD; the knowledge of God you will find;
6 Perciocchè il Signore dà la sapienza; Dalla sua bocca procede la scienza e l’intendimento.	6 For the LORD gives wisdom, from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
7 Egli riserba la ragione a’ diritti; Egli è lo scudo di quelli che camminano in integrità;	7 He has counsel in store for the upright, he is the shield of those who walk honestly,
8 Per guardare i sentieri di dirittura, E custodire la via de’ suoi santi.	8 Guarding the paths of justice, protecting the way of his pious ones.
9 Allora tu intenderai giustizia, giudicio, E dirittura, ed ogni buon sentiero	9 Then you will understand rectitude and justice, honesty, every good path;
10 Quando la sapienza sarà entrata nel cuor tuo, E la scienza sarà dilettevole all’anima tua;	10 For wisdom will enter your heart, knowledge will please your soul,
11 L’avvedimento ti preserverà, La prudenza ti guarderà;	11 Discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you;
12 Per liberarti dalla via malvagia, Dagli uomini che parlano di cose perverse;	12 Saving you from the way of evil men, from men of perverse speech,
13 I quali lasciano i sentieri della dirittura, Per camminar per le vie delle tenebre;	13 Who leave the straight paths to walk in the way of darkness,
14 I quali si rallegrano di far male, E festeggiano nelle perversità di malizia;	14 Who delight in doing evil, rejoice in perversity;
15 I quali son torti nelle lor vie, E traviati ne’ lor sentieri.	15 Whose ways are crooked, and devious their paths;
16 Per iscamparti ancora dalla donna straniera; Dalla forestiera che parla vezzosamente;	16 Saving you from the wife of another, from the adulteress with her smooth words,
17 La quale ha abbandonato il conduttor della sua giovanezza, Ed ha dimenticato il patto del suo Dio.	17 Who forsakes the companion of her youth and forgets the pact with her God;
18 Conciossiachè la casa di essa dichini alla morte, Ed i suoi sentieri a’ morti.	18 For her path sinks down to death, and her footsteps lead to the shades;
19 Niuno di coloro ch’entrano da essa non ne ritorna, E non riprende i sentieri della vita.	19 None who enter thereon come back again, or gain the paths of life.
20 Acciocchè ancora tu cammini per la via de’ buoni, Ed osservi i sentieri de’ giusti.	20 Thus you may walk in the way of good men, and keep to the paths of the just.
21 Perciocchè gli uomini diritti abiteranno la terra, E gli uomini intieri rimarranno in essa.	21 For the upright will dwell in the land, the honest will remain in it;
22 Ma gli empi saranno sterminati dalla terra, E i disleali ne saranno divelti	22 But the wicked will be cut off from the land, the faithless will be rooted out of it.
