1 Reçois mes paroles, garde mon enseignement;	1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and wilt hide my commandments with thee,
2 que ton oreille, mon fils, s’ouvre à la sagesse, que ton cœur se plie à la vérité;	2 That thy ear may hearken to wisdom: Incline thy heart to know prudence:
3 fais appel à l’intelligence et laisse-toi guider par la raison;	3 For if thou shalt call for wisdom, and incline thy heart to prudence:
4 cherche la sagesse comme l’argent, comme un trésor caché:	4 If thou shalt seek her as money, and shalt dig for her as for a treasure:
5 alors tu pénétreras dans la crainte de Yahvé et tu trouveras la connaissance de Dieu.	5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and shalt find the knowledge of God.
6 Car c’est Yahvé qui donne la sagesse, de sa bouche sortent le savoir et la vérité.	6 Because the Lord giveth wisdom: and out of his mouth cometh prudence and knowledge.
7 Il vient en aide aux hommes droits, il est un bouclier pour ceux qui restent honnêtes.	7 He will keep the salvation of the righteous, and protect them that walk in simplicity.
8 Il reste en alerte tout au long du droit chemin pour y protéger la marche de ses fidèles.	8 Keeping the paths of justice, and guarding the ways of saints.
9 Alors tu comprendras ce qui est juste, droit et honnête, tout ce qui mène au bonheur.	9 Then shalt thou understand justice, and judgment, and equity, and every good path.
10 La sagesse alors entrera dans ton cœur et le savoir sera ta jouissance.	10 If wisdom shall enter into thy heart, and knowledge please thy soul:
11 La prudence veillera sur toi, la réflexion sera ta sauvegarde;	11 Counsel shall keep thee, and prudence shall preserve thee,
12 elles te tiendront à l’écart des chemins du mal et des hommes aux paroles trompeuses,	12 That thou mayst be delivered from the evil way, and from the man that speaketh perverse things:
13 qui délaissent les droits sentiers et s’en vont par les routes obscures;	13 Who leave the right way, and walk by dark ways:
14 qui trouvent leur joie à faire le mal et prennent plaisir aux abominations,	14 Who are glad when they have done evil, and rejoice in most wicked things:
15 qui vont par des chemins tortueux, par des sentiers qui se perdent.	15 Whose ways are perverse, and their steps infamous.
16 La sagesse te gardera de la femme d’un autre, de la belle inconnue aux douces paroles,	16 That thou mayst be delivered from the strange women, and from the stranger, who softeneth her words:
17 qui abandonne le partenaire de sa jeunesse et oublie les alliances de son Dieu.	17 And forsaketh the guide of her youth,
18 De sa maison on déboule vers la mort, ses sentiers mènent droit à la tombe.	18 And hath forgotten the covenant of her God: for her house inclineth unto death, and her paths to hell.
19 Ceux qui y vont n’en reviendront pas, ils ne retrouveront pas le chemin de la vie.	19 None that go in unto her shall return again, neither shall they take hold of the paths of life,
20 Mais toi tu marcheras sur le chemin des gens honnêtes, tu suivras les sentiers des justes.	20 That thou mayst walk in a good way: and mayst keep the paths of the just.
21 Car les hommes droits habiteront le pays, les gens intègres y prolongeront leurs jours.	21 For they that are upright shall dwell in the earth, and the simple shall continue in it.
22 Les méchants au contraire seront chassés du pays, les traîtres en seront expulsés.	22 But the wicked shall be destroyed from the earth: and they that do unjustly shall be taken away from it.
