Primeira Epístola aos Coríntios 10

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 {Não quero que ignoreis, irmãos}, que os nossos pais estiveram todos debaixo da nuvem e que todos atravessaram o mar;	1 I want you to be quite certain, brothers, that our ancestors al had the cloud over them and al passedthrough the sea.
2 todos foram batizados em Moisés, na nuvem e no mar;	2 In the cloud and in the sea they were all baptised into Moses;
3 todos comeram do mesmo alimento espiritual;	3 al ate the same spiritual food
4 todos beberam da mesma bebida espiritual {pois todos bebiam da pedra espiritual que os seguia; e essa pedra era Cristo}.	4 and al drank the same spiritual drink, since they drank from the spiritual rock which fol owed them,and that rock was Christ.
5 Não obstante, a maioria deles desgostou a Deus, pois seus cadáveres cobriram o deserto.	5 In spite of this, God was not pleased with most of them, and their corpses were scattered over thedesert.
6 Estas coisas aconteceram para nos servir de exemplo, a fim de não cobiçarmos coisas más, como eles as cobiçaram.	6 Now these happenings were examples, for our benefit, so that we should never set our hearts, as theydid, on evil things;
7 Nem vos torneis idólatras, como alguns deles, conforme está escrito: O povo sentou-se para comer e para beber, e depois levantou-se para se divertir {Ex 32,6}.	7 nor are you to worship false gods, as some of them did, as it says in scripture: The people sat down toeat and drink, and afterwards got up to amuse themselves.
8 Nem nos entreguemos à impureza como alguns deles se entregaram, e morreram num só dia vinte e três mil.	8 Nor, again, are we to fall into sexual immorality; some of them did this, and twenty-three thousand mettheir downfal in one day.
9 Nem tentemos o Senhor, como alguns deles o tentaram, e pereceram mordidos pelas serpentes.	9 And we are not to put the Lord to the test; some of them put him to the test, and they were killed bysnakes.
10 Nem murmureis, como murmuraram alguns deles, e foram mortos pelo exterminador.	10 Never complain; some of them complained, and they were killed by the Destroyer.
11 Todas estas desgraças lhes aconteceram para nosso exemplo; foram escritas para advertência nossa, para nós que tocamos o final dos tempos.	11 Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were described in writing to bea lesson for us, to whom it has fallen to live in the last days of the ages.
12 Portanto, quem pensa estar de pé veja que não caia.	12 Everyone, no matter how firmly he thinks he is standing, must be careful he does not fall.
13 Não vos sobreveio tentação alguma que ultrapassasse as forças humanas. Deus é fiel: não permitirá que sejais tentados além das vossas forças, mas com a tentação ele vos dará os meios de suportá-la e sairdes dela.	13 None of the trials which have come upon you is more than a human being can stand. You can trustthat God wil not let you be put to the test beyond your strength, but with any trial will also provide a way out byenabling you to put up with it.
14 Portanto, caríssimos meus, fugi da idolatria.	14 For that reason, my dear friends, have nothing to do with the worship of false gods.
15 Falo como a pessoas sensatas; julgai vós mesmos o que digo.	15 I am talking to you as sensible people; weigh up for yourselves what I have to say.
16 O cálice de bênção, que benzemos, não é a comunhão do sangue de Cristo? E o pão, que partimos, não é a comunhão do corpo de Cristo?	16 The blessing-cup, which we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ; and the loaf of bread which we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ?
17 Uma vez que há um único pão, nós, embora sendo muitos, formamos um só corpo, porque todos nós comungamos do mesmo pão.	17 And as there is one loaf, so we, although there are many of us, are one single body, for we all sharein the one loaf.
18 Considerai Israel segundo a carne: não entram em comunhão com o altar os que comem as vítimas?	18 Now compare the natural people of Israel: is it not true that those who eat the sacrifices share thealtar?
19 Que quero afirmar com isto? Que a carne sacrificada aos ídolos ou o próprio ídolo são alguma coisa?	19 What does this mean? That the dedication of food to false gods amounts to anything? Or that falsegods themselves amount to anything?
20 Não! As coisas que os pagãos sacrificam, sacrificam-nas a demônios e não a Deus. E eu não quero que tenhais comunhão com os demônios.	20 No, it does not; simply that when pagans sacrifice, what is sacrificed by them is sacrificed to demonswho are not God. I do not want you to share with demons.
21 Não podeis beber ao mesmo tempo o cálice do Senhor e o cálice dos demônios. Não podeis participar ao mesmo tempo da mesa do Senhor e da mesa dos demônios.	21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons as wel ; you cannot have a share at theLord's table and the demons' table as wel .
22 Ou queremos provocar a ira do Senhor? Acaso somos mais fortes do que ele?	22 Do we real y want to arouse the Lord's jealousy; are we stronger than he is?
23 Tudo é permitido, mas nem tudo é oportuno. Tudo é permitido, mas nem tudo edifica.	23 'Everything is permissible'; maybe so, but not everything does good. True, everything is permissible,but not everything builds people up.
24 Ninguém busque o seu interesse, mas o do próximo.	24 Nobody should be looking for selfish advantage, but everybody for someone else's.
25 Comei de tudo o que se vende no açougue, sem indagar de coisa alguma por motivo de consciência.	25 Eat anything that is sold in butchers' shops; there is no need to ask questions for conscience's sake,
26 Do Senhor é a terra e tudo que ela encerra.	26 since To the Lord belong the earth and all it contains.
27 Se algum infiel vos convidar e quiserdes ir, comei de tudo o que se vos puser diante sem indagar de coisa alguma por motivo de consciência.	27 If an unbeliever invites you to a meal, go if you want to, and eat whatever is put before you; you neednot ask questions of conscience first.
28 Mas se alguém disser: Isto foi sacrificado aos ídolos, não o comais, em atenção àquele que o advertiu e por motivo de consciência.	28 But if someone says to you, 'This food has been offered in sacrifice,' do not eat it, out ofconsideration for the person that told you, for conscience's sake-
29 Dizendo consciência, refiro-me não à tua, mas à do outro. Com efeito, por que razão seria regulada a minha liberdade pela consciência alheia?	29 not your own conscience, I mean, but the other person's. Why should my freedom be governed bysomebody else's conscience?
30 Se eu como com ações de graças, por que serei eu censurado por causa do alimento pelo qual rendo graças?	30 Provided that I accept it with gratitude, why should I be blamed for eating food for which I givethanks?
31 Portanto, quer comais quer bebais ou façais qualquer outra coisa, fazei tudo para a glória de Deus.	31 Whatever you eat, then, or drink, and whatever else you do, do it al for the glory of God.
32 Não vos torneis causa de escândalo, nem para os judeus, nem para os gentios, nem para a Igreja de Deus.	32 Never be a cause of offence, either to Jews or to Greeks or to the Church of God,
33 Fazei como eu: em todas as circunstâncias procuro agradar a todos. Não busco os meus interesses próprios, mas os interesses dos outros, para que todos sejam salvos.	33 just as I try to accommodate everybody in everything, not looking for my own advantage, but for theadvantage of everybody else, so that they may be saved.
