SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Em que, então, se avantaja o judeu? Ou qual é a utilidade da circuncisão?	1 Is there any benefit, then, in being a Jew? Is there any advantage in being circumcised?
2 Muita, em todos os aspectos. Principalmente porque lhes foram confiados os oráculos de Deus.	2 A great deal, in every way. First of al , it was to the Jews that the message of God was entrusted.
3 Mas então! Se alguns deles não foram fiéis, acaso a sua infidelidade destruirá a fidelidade de Deus?	3 What if some of them were unfaithful? Do you think their lack of faith could cancel God's faithfulness?
4 De modo algum. Porque Deus há de ser reconhecido como veraz, e todo homem como mentiroso, segundo está escrito: Assim, serás reconhecido justo nas tuas palavras e vencerás, quando julgares {Sl 50,6}.	4 Out of the question! God wil always be true even if no human being can be relied on. As scripturesays: That you may show your saving justice when you pass sentence and your victory may appear when yougive judgement.
5 Portanto, se a nossa injustiça realça a justiça de Deus, que diremos então? Para falar como os homens: não é injusto Deus quando descarrega a sua cólera?	5 But if our injustice serves to bring God's saving justice into view, can we say that God is unjust when --to use human terms -- he brings his retribution down on us?
6 Certo que não! De outra maneira, como julgaria Deus o mundo?	6 Out of the question! It would mean that God could not be the judge of the world.
7 Mas, se a verdade de Deus brilha ainda mais para a sua glória por minha mentira, por que serei eu ainda julgado pecador?	7 You might as wel say that if my untruthfulness makes God demonstrate his truthfulness, to his greaterglory, then I should not be judged to be a sinner at al .
8 Então, por que não faríamos o mal para que dele venha o bem, expressão que os caluniadores, falsamente, nos atribuem? É justo que estes tais sejam condenados.	8 In this case, the slanderous report some people are spreading would be true, that we teach that oneshould do evil that good may come of it. In fact such people are justly condemned.
9 E então? Avantajamo-nos a eles? De maneira alguma. Pois já demonstramos que judeus e gregos estão todos sob o domínio do pecado, como está escrito:	9 Wel : are we any better off? Not at al : we have already indicted Jews and Greeks as being al alikeunder the dominion of sin.
10 Não há nenhum justo, não há sequer um.	10 As scripture says: Not one of them is upright, not a single one,
11 Não há um só que tenha inteligência, um só que busque a Deus.	11 not a single one is wise, not a single one seeks God.
12 Extraviaram-se todos e todos se perverteram. Não há quem faça o bem, não há sequer um {Sl 13,lss}.	12 Al have turned away, all alike turned sour, not one of them does right, not a single one.
13 A sua garganta é um sepulcro aberto; com as suas línguas enganam; veneno de áspide está debaixo dos seus lábios {Sl 5,10; 139,4}.	13 Their throats are wide -- open graves, their tongues seductive. Viper's venom behind their lips;
14 A sua boca está cheia de maldição e amargar {Sl 9,28}.	14 their speech is ful of cursing and bitterness.
15 Os seus pés são velozes para derramar sangue.	15 Their feet quick to shed innocent blood,
16 Há destruição e ruína nos seus caminhos,	16 wherever they go there is havoc and ruin.
17 e não conhecem o caminho da paz {Is 59,7s}.	17 They do not know the way of peace,
18 Não há temor a Deus diante dos seus olhos {Sl 35,2}.	18 there is no fear of God before their eyes.
19 Ora, sabemos que tudo o que diz a lei, di-lo aos que estão sujeitos à lei, para que toda boca fique fechada e que o mundo inteiro seja reconhecido culpado diante de Deus:	19 Now we are wel aware that whatever the Law says is said for those who are subject to the Law, sothat every mouth may be silenced, and the whole world brought under the judgement of God.
20 Porquanto pela observância da lei nenhum homem será justificado diante dele, porque a lei se limita a dar o conhecimento do pecado.	20 So then, no human being can be found upright at the tribunal of God by keeping the Law; al that theLaw does is to tell us what is sinful.
21 Mas, agora, sem o concurso da lei, manifestou-se a justiça de Deus, atestada pela lei e pelos profetas.	21 God's saving justice was witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, but now it has been revealedaltogether apart from law:
22 Esta é a a justiça de Deus pela fé em Jesus Cristo, para todos os fiéis {pois não há distinção;	22 God's saving justice given through faith in Jesus Christ to al who believe.
23 com efeito, todos pecaram e todos estão privados da glória de Deus},	23 No distinction is made: all have sinned and lack God's glory,
24 e são justificados gratuitamente por sua graça; tal é a obra da redenção, realizada em Jesus Cristo.	24 and all are justified by the free gift of his grace through being set free in Christ Jesus.
25 Deus o destinou para ser, pelo seu sangue, vítima de propiciação mediante a fé. Assim, ele manifesta a sua justiça; porque no tempo de sua paciência, ele havia deixado sem castigo os pecados anteriores.	25 God appointed him as a sacrifice for reconciliation, through faith, by the shedding of his blood, and soshowed his justness; first for the past, when sins went unpunished because he held his hand;
26 Assim, digo eu, ele manifesta a sua justiça no tempo presente, exercendo a justiça e justificando aquele que tem fé em Jesus.	26 and now again for the present age, to show how he is just and justifies everyone who has faith inJesus.
27 Onde está, portanto, o motivo de se gloriar? Foi eliminado. Por qual lei? Pela das obras? Não, mas pela lei da fé.	27 So what becomes of our boasts? There is no room for them. On what principle- that only actionscount? No; that faith is what counts,
28 Porque julgamos que o homem é justificado pela fé, sem as observâncias da lei.	28 since, as we see it, a person is justified by faith and not by doing what the Law tel s him to do.
29 Ou Deus só o é dos judeus? Não é também Deus dos pagãos? Sim, ele o é também dos pagãos.	29 Do you think God is the God only of the Jews, and not of gentiles too? Most certainly of gentiles too,
30 Porque não há mais que um só Deus, o qual justificará pela fé os circuncisos e, também pela fé, os incircuncisos.	30 since there is only one God; he will justify the circumcised by their faith, and he will justify theuncircumcised through their faith.
31 Destruímos então a lei pela fé? De modo algum. Pelo contrário, damos-lhe toda a sua força.	31 Are we saying that the Law has been made pointless by faith? Out of the question; we are placing theLaw on its true footing.
