SAGRADA BIBLIANEW JERUSALEM
Then the kingdom of Heaven wil be like this: Ten wedding attendants took their lamps and went tomeet the bridegroom.
Cinco dentre elas eram tolas e cinco, prudentes.2 Five of them were foolish and five were sensible:
Tomando suas lâmpadas, as tolas não levaram óleo consigo.3 the foolish ones, though they took their lamps, took no oil with them,
As prudentes, todavia, levaram de reserva vasos de óleo junto com as lâmpadas.4 whereas the sensible ones took flasks of oil as wel as their lamps.
Tardando o esposo, cochilaram todas e adormeceram.5 The bridegroom was late, and they al grew drowsy and fell asleep.
No meio da noite, porém, ouviu-se um clamor: Eis o esposo, ide-lhe ao encontro.6 But at midnight there was a cry, "Look! The bridegroom! Go out and meet him."
E as virgens levantaram-se todas e prepararam suas lâmpadas.7 Then al those wedding attendants woke up and trimmed their lamps,
As tolas disseram às prudentes: Dai-nos de vosso óleo, porque nossas lâmpadas se estão apagando.8 and the foolish ones said to the sensible ones, "Give us some of your oil: our lamps are going out."
As prudentes responderam: Não temos o suficiente para nós e para vós; é preferível irdes aos vendedores, a fim de o comprardes para vós.9 But they replied, "There may not be enough for us and for you; you had better go to those who sel itand buy some for yourselves."
They had gone off to buy it when the bridegroom arrived. Those who were ready went in with him tothe wedding hall and the door was closed.
Mais tarde, chegaram também as outras e diziam: Senhor, senhor, abre-nos!11 The other attendants arrived later. "Lord, Lord," they said, "open the door for us."
Mas ele respondeu: Em verdade vos digo: não vos conheço!12 But he replied, "In truth I tel you, I do not know you."
So stay awake, because you do not know either the day or the hour.
It is like a man about to go abroad who summoned his servants and entrusted his property to them.
Depois partiu.15 To one he gave five talents, to another two, to a third one, each in proportion to his ability. Then heset out on his journey.
The man who had received the five talents promptly went and traded with them and made five more.
The man who had received two made two more in the same way.
But the man who had received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master'smoney.
Muito tempo depois, o senhor daqueles servos voltou e pediu-lhes contas.19 Now a long time afterwards, the master of those servants came back and went through his accountswith them.
The man who had received the five talents came forward bringing five more. "Sir," he said, "youentrusted me with five talents; here are five more that I have made."
Vem regozijar-te com teu senhor.21 His master said to him, "Well done, good and trustworthy servant; you have shown you aretrustworthy in small things; I wil trust you with greater; come and join in your master's happiness."
O que recebeu dois talentos, adiantou-se também e disse: - Senhor, confiaste-me dois talentos; eis aqui os dois outros que lucrei.22 Next the man with the two talents came forward. "Sir," he said, "you entrusted me with two talents; here are two more that I have made."
Vem regozijar-te com teu senhor.23 His master said to him, "Well done, good and trustworthy servant; you have shown you aretrustworthy in small things; I wil trust you with greater; come and join in your master's happiness."
Veio, por fim, o que recebeu só um talento: - Senhor, disse-lhe, sabia que és um homem duro, que colhes onde não semeaste e recolhes onde não espalhaste.24 Last came forward the man who had the single talent. "Sir," said he, "I had heard you were a hardman, reaping where you had not sown and gathering where you had not scattered;
Eis aqui, toma o que te pertence.25 so I was afraid, and I went off and hid your talent in the ground. Here it is; it was yours, you have itback."
But his master answered him, "You wicked and lazy servant! So you knew that I reap where I havenot sown and gather where I have not scattered?
Well then, you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have gotmy money back with interest.
Tirai-lhe este talento e dai-o ao que tem dez.28 So now, take the talent from him and give it to the man who has the ten talents.
For to everyone who has wil be given more, and he wil have more than enough; but anyone whohas not, wil be deprived even of what he has.
As for this good-for-nothing servant, throw him into the darkness outside, where there will be weepingand grinding of teeth."
When the Son of man comes in his glory, escorted by al the angels, then he will take his seat on histhrone of glory.
Todas as nações se reunirão diante dele e ele separará uns dos outros, como o pastor separa as ovelhas dos cabritos.32 Al nations wil be assembled before him and he wil separate people one from another as theshepherd separates sheep from goats.
Colocará as ovelhas à sua direita e os cabritos à sua esquerda.33 He will place the sheep on his right hand and the goats on his left.
Then the King wil say to those on his right hand, "Come, you whom my Father has blessed, take asyour heritage the kingdom prepared for you since the foundation of the world.
for I hungered, and ye gave me to eat; I thirsted, and ye gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in;35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger andyou made me welcome,
naked, and ye clothed me; I was ill, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came to me.36 lacking clothes and you clothed me, sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to see me."
Then shall the righteous answer him saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungering, and nourished thee; or thirsting, and gave thee to drink?37 Then the upright will say to him in reply, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirstyand give you drink?
and when saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in; or naked, and clothed thee?38 When did we see you a stranger and make you welcome, lacking clothes and clothe you?
and when saw we thee ill, or in prison, and came to thee?39 When did we find you sick or in prison and go to see you?"
And the King answering shall say to them, Verily, I say to you, Inasmuch as ye have done it to one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it to me.40 And the King wil answer, "In truth I tel you, in so far as you did this to one of the least of thesebrothers of mine, you did it to me."
Then shall he say also to those on the left, Go from me, cursed, into eternal fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:41 Then he will say to those on his left hand, "Go away from me, with your curse upon you, to theeternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
for I hungered, and ye gave me not to eat; I thirsted, and ye gave me not to drink;42 For I was hungry and you never gave me food, I was thirsty and you never gave me anything to drink,
I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye did not clothe me; ill, and in prison, and ye did not visit me.43 I was a stranger and you never made me welcome, lacking clothes and you never clothed me, sickand in prison and you never visited me."
Then shall *they* also answer saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungering, or thirsting, or a stranger, or naked, or ill, or in prison, and have not ministered to thee?44 Then it wil be their turn to ask, "Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty, a stranger or lackingclothes, sick or in prison, and did not come to your help?"
Then shall he answer them saying, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye have not done it to one of these least, neither have ye done it to me.45 Then he will answer, "In truth I tel you, in so far as you neglected to do this to one of the least ofthese, you neglected to do it to me."
And these shall go away into eternal punishment, and the righteous into life eternal.46 And they wil go away to eternal punishment, and the upright to eternal life.'
