SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Então, com grande confiança, o justo se levantará em face dos que o perseguiram e zombaram dos seus males aqui embaixo.	1 Then the upright will stand up boldly to face those who had oppressed him and had thought so little of his sufferings.
2 Diante de sua vista serão presos de grande temor e tomados de assombro ao vê-lo salvo contra sua expectativa;	2 And, seeing him, they wil be seized with terrible fear, amazed that he should have been sounexpectedly saved.
3 tocados de arrependimento, dirão entre si, e, gemendo na angústia de sua alma, dirão:	3 Stricken with remorse, they wil say to one another with groans and labouring breath,
4 Ei-lo, aquele de quem outrora escarnecemos, e a quem loucamente cobrimos de insultos! Considerávamos sua vida como uma loucura, e sua morte como uma vergonha.	4 'This is the one whom we used to mock, making him the butt of our insults, fools that we were! His lifewe regarded as madness, his ending as without honour.
5 Como, pois, é ele do número dos filhos de Deus, e como está seu lugar entre os santos?	5 How has he come to be counted as one of the children of God and to have his lot among the holy ones?
6 Portanto, nós nos desgarramos para longe da verdade: a luz da justiça não brilhou para nós e o sol não se levantou sobre nós!	6 Clearly we have strayed from the way of truth; the light of justice has not shone for us, the sun has notrisen for us.
7 Nós nos manchamos nas sendas da iniqüidade e da perdição, erramos pelos desertos sem caminhos e não conhecemos o caminho do Senhor!	7 We have left no path of lawlessness or ruin unexplored, we have crossed deserts where there was notrack, but the way of the Lord is one we have never known.
8 O que ganhamos com nosso orgulho, e que nos trouxe a riqueza unida à arrogância?	8 What good has arrogance been to us? What has been the purpose of our riches and boastfulness?
9 Tudo isso desapareceu como sombra, como notícia que passa;	9 Al those things have passed like a shadow, passed like a fleeting rumour.
10 como navio que fende a água agitada, sem que se possa reencontrar o rasto de seu itinerário, nem a esteira de sua quilha nas ondas.	10 Like a ship that cuts through heaving waves -- leaving no trace to show where it has passed, no wakefrom its keel in the waves.
11 Como a ave que, atravessando o ar em seu vôo, não deixa após si o traço de sua passagem, mas, ferindo o ar com suas penas, fende-o com a impetuosa força do bater de suas asas, atravessa-o e logo nem se nota indício de sua passagem;	11 Or like a bird flying through the air -- leaving no proof of its passing; it whips the light air with the strokeof its pinions, tears it apart in its whirring rush, drives its way onward with sweeping wing, and afterwards no signis seen of its passage.
12 como quando uma flecha, que é lançada ao alvo, o ar que ela cortou volta imediatamente à sua posição de modo que não se pode distinguir sua trajetória,	12 Or like an arrow shot at a mark, the pierced air closing so quickly on itself, there is no knowing whichway the arrow has passed.
13 assim, também nós, apenas nascidos, cessamos de ser, e não podemos mostrar traço algum de virtude: é no mal que nossa vida se consumiu!	13 So with us: scarcely born, we disappear; of virtue not a trace have we to show, we have spentourselves in our own wickedness!'
14 Assim a esperança do ímpio é como a poeira levada pelo vento, e como uma leve espuma espalhada pela tempestade; ela se dissipa como o fumo ao vento, e passa como a lembrança do hóspede de um dia.	14 For the hope of the godless is like chaff carried on the wind, like fine spray driven by the storm; itdisperses like smoke before the wind, goes away like the memory of a one-day guest.
15 Mas os justos viverão eternamente; sua recompensa está no Senhor, e o Altíssimo cuidará deles.	15 But the upright live for ever, their recompense is with the Lord, and the Most High takes care of them.
16 Por isso receberão a régia coroa de glória, e o diadema da beleza da mão do Senhor, porque os cobrirá com sua direita, e os protegerá com seu braço.	16 So they wil receive the glorious crown and the diadem of beauty from the Lord's hand; for he wilshelter them with his right hand and with his arm he wil shield them.
17 Por armadura tomará seu zelo cioso, e armará as criaturas para se vingar de seus inimigos.	17 For armour he will take his jealous love, he wil arm creation to punish his enemies;
18 Tomará por couraça a justiça, e por capacete a integridade no julgamento.	18 he wil put on justice as a breastplate, and for helmet wear his forthright judgement;
19 Ele se cobrirá com a santidade, como com um impenetrável escudo,	19 he wil take up invincible holiness for shield,
20 afiará o gume de sua ira para lhe servir de espada, e o mundo se reunirá a ele na luta contra os insensatos.	20 of his pitiless wrath he will forge a sword, and the universe wil march with him to fight the reckless.
21 Os raios partirão como flechas bem dirigidas, e, como de um arco bem distendido, voarão das nuvens para o alvo;	21 Bolts truly aimed, the shafts of lightning wil leap, and from the clouds, as from a ful -drawn bow, fly totheir mark;
22 uma balista fará cair uma pesada saraiva de ira; a água do mar se levantará em turbilhão contra eles e os rios os arrastarão impetuosamente.	22 and the catapult wil hurl hailstones charged with fury. The waters of the sea wil rage against them,the rivers engulf them without pity,
23 O sopro do Todo-poderoso se insurgirá contra eles e os dispersará como um furacão; a iniqüidade fará de toda a terra um deserto, e a malícia derribará os tronos dos poderosos!	23 a mighty gale wil rise against them and winnow them like a hurricane. Thus wickedness wil lay thewhole earth waste and evil-doing bring down the thrones of the mighty.
