SAGRADA BIBLIA	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Então, com grande confiança, o justo se levantará em face dos que o perseguiram e zombaram dos seus males aqui embaixo.	1 Then shall the just stand with great constancy against those that have afflicted them, and taken away their labours.
2 Diante de sua vista serão presos de grande temor e tomados de assombro ao vê-lo salvo contra sua expectativa;	2 These seeing it, shall be troubled with terrible fear, and shall be amazed at the suddenness of their unexpected salvation.
3 tocados de arrependimento, dirão entre si, e, gemendo na angústia de sua alma, dirão:	3 Saying within themselves, repenting, and groaning for anguish of spirit: These are they, whom we had some time in derision, and for a parable of reproach.
4 Ei-lo, aquele de quem outrora escarnecemos, e a quem loucamente cobrimos de insultos! Considerávamos sua vida como uma loucura, e sua morte como uma vergonha.	4 We fools esteemed their life madness, and their end without honour.
5 Como, pois, é ele do número dos filhos de Deus, e como está seu lugar entre os santos?	5 Behold how they are numbered among the children of God, and their lot is among the saints.
6 Portanto, nós nos desgarramos para longe da verdade: a luz da justiça não brilhou para nós e o sol não se levantou sobre nós!	6 Therefore we have erred from the way of truth, and the light of justice hath not shined unto us, and the sun of understanding hath not risen upon us.
7 Nós nos manchamos nas sendas da iniqüidade e da perdição, erramos pelos desertos sem caminhos e não conhecemos o caminho do Senhor!	7 We wearied ourselves in the way of iniquity and destruction, and have walked through hard ways, but the way of the Lord we have not known.
8 O que ganhamos com nosso orgulho, e que nos trouxe a riqueza unida à arrogância?	8 What hath pride profited us? or what advantage hath the boasting of riches brought us?
9 Tudo isso desapareceu como sombra, como notícia que passa;	9 All those things are passed away like a shadow, and like a post that runneth on,
10 como navio que fende a água agitada, sem que se possa reencontrar o rasto de seu itinerário, nem a esteira de sua quilha nas ondas.	10 And as a ship that passeth through the waves: whereof when it is gone by, the trace cannot be found, nor the path of its keel in the waters:
11 Como a ave que, atravessando o ar em seu vôo, não deixa após si o traço de sua passagem, mas, ferindo o ar com suas penas, fende-o com a impetuosa força do bater de suas asas, atravessa-o e logo nem se nota indício de sua passagem;	11 Or as when a bird flieth through the air, of the passage of which no mark can be found, but only the sound of the wings beating the light air, and parting it by the force of her flight; she moved her wings, and hath flown through, and there is no mark found afterwards of her way:
12 como quando uma flecha, que é lançada ao alvo, o ar que ela cortou volta imediatamente à sua posição de modo que não se pode distinguir sua trajetória,	12 Or as when an arrow is shot at a mark, the divided air presently cometh together again, so that the passage thereof is not known:
13 assim, também nós, apenas nascidos, cessamos de ser, e não podemos mostrar traço algum de virtude: é no mal que nossa vida se consumiu!	13 So we also being born, forthwith ceased to be: and have been able to shew no mark of virtue: but are consumed in our wickedness.
14 Assim a esperança do ímpio é como a poeira levada pelo vento, e como uma leve espuma espalhada pela tempestade; ela se dissipa como o fumo ao vento, e passa como a lembrança do hóspede de um dia.	14 Such things as these the sinners said in hell:
15 Mas os justos viverão eternamente; sua recompensa está no Senhor, e o Altíssimo cuidará deles.	15 For the hope of the wicked is as dust, which is blown away with the wind, and as a thin froth which is dispersed by the storm: and a smoke that is scattered abroad by the wind: and as the remembrance of a guest of one day that passeth by.
16 Por isso receberão a régia coroa de glória, e o diadema da beleza da mão do Senhor, porque os cobrirá com sua direita, e os protegerá com seu braço.	16 But the just shall live for evermore: and their reward is with the Lord, and the care of them with the most High.
17 Por armadura tomará seu zelo cioso, e armará as criaturas para se vingar de seus inimigos.	17 Therefore shall they receive a kingdom of glory, and a crown of beauty at the hand of the Lord: for with his right hand he will cover them, and with his holy arm he will defend them.
18 Tomará por couraça a justiça, e por capacete a integridade no julgamento.	18 And his zeal will take armour, and he will arm the creature for the revenge of his enemies.
19 Ele se cobrirá com a santidade, como com um impenetrável escudo,	19 He will put on justice as a breastplate, and will take true judgment instead of a helmet.
20 afiará o gume de sua ira para lhe servir de espada, e o mundo se reunirá a ele na luta contra os insensatos.	20 He will take equity for an invincible shield:
21 Os raios partirão como flechas bem dirigidas, e, como de um arco bem distendido, voarão das nuvens para o alvo;	21 And he will sharpen his severe wrath for a spear, and the whole world shall fight with him against the unwise.
22 uma balista fará cair uma pesada saraiva de ira; a água do mar se levantará em turbilhão contra eles e os rios os arrastarão impetuosamente.	22 Then shafts of lightning shall go directly from the clouds, as from a bow well bent, they shall be shot out, and shall fly to the mark.
23 O sopro do Todo-poderoso se insurgirá contra eles e os dispersará como um furacão; a iniqüidade fará de toda a terra um deserto, e a malícia derribará os tronos dos poderosos!	23 And thick hail shall be cast upon them from the stone casting wrath: the water of the sea shall rage against them, and the rivers shall run together in a terrible manner.
	24 A mighty wind shall stand up against them, and as a whirlwind shall divide them: and their iniquity shall bring all the earth to a desert, and wickedness shall overthrow the thrones of the mighty.
