LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Grida, dunque! C'è forse qualcuno che ti risponde? A chi tra i santi ti rivolgerai?	1 Make your appeal then. Wil you find an answer? To which of the holy ones wil you turn?
2 In verità, il dolore reca la morte allo stolto e la collera fa morire l'inesperto.	2 Resentment kil s the senseless, and anger brings death to the fool.
3 Ho visto l'insensato mettere radici, e subito vidi maledetta la sua dimora.	3 I have seen the senseless taking root, when a curse fel suddenly on his house.
4 I suoi figli sono privi di aiuto, sono oppressi in tribunale senza difensore.	4 His children are deprived of prop and stay, ruined at the gate, and no one to defend them;
5 Le loro messi le divora l'affamato, rubandole malgrado le siepi, e l'assetato ne inghiotte gli averi.	5 their harvest goes to feed the hungry, God snatches it from their mouths, and covetous people thirst fortheir possessions.
6 Certo, la sventura non nasce dal suolo e la disgrazia non germoglia dalla terra,	6 No, misery does not grow out of the soil, nor sorrow spring from the ground.
7 ma è l'uomo che genera la miseria, come le aquile volano in alto.	7 It is people who breed trouble for themselves as surely as eagles fly to the height.
8 Quanto a me, mi rivolgerei a Dio, a Dio affiderei la mia causa,	8 If I were you, I should appeal to God and lay my case before him.
9 a lui che compie prodigi insondabili e meraviglie senza numero,	9 His works are great, past al reckoning, marvels beyond al counting.
10 che manda la pioggia sulla terra e versa le acque sulle campagne;	10 He sends down rain to the earth, pours down water on the fields.

12 Rende vani i piani degli astuti, così che le loro mani non realizzino le loro previsioni.	12 he frustrates the plans of the artful so that they cannot succeed in their intrigues.
13 Accalappia i sapienti nelle loro astuzie e fa abortire gli intrighi degli scaltri.	13 He traps the crafty in the snare of their own trickery, throws the plans of the cunning into disarray.
14 In pieno giorno incappano nelle tenebre e a mezzogiorno brancolano come di notte.	14 In daylight they come up against darkness, and grope their way as if noon were night.
15 Così Dio salva il povero dalla lingua affilata, dalla mano violenta.	15 He rescues the bankrupt from their jaws, and the needy from the grasp of the mighty.
16 C'è una speranza per il misero, mentre l'ingiustizia chiude la bocca.	16 Hope springs afresh for the weak, and wickedness must shut its mouth.
17 Perciò felice l'uomo che Dio corregge. Non ricusare, dunque, la lezione dell'Onnipotente!	17 Blessed are those whom God corrects! Do not then scorn the lesson of Shaddai!
18 Veramente, è lui che produce la piaga e la medica, colpisce e con le sue mani risana.	18 For he who wounds is he who soothes the sore, and the hand that hurts is the hand that heals.
19 Da sei angustie ti libererà, e alla settima non soffrirai nessun male.	19 Six times he wil deliver you from sorrow, and the seventh time, evil wil not touch you.
20 In tempo di fame ti scamperà dalla morte e nel combattimento dal filo della spada.	20 In time of famine, he wil save you from death, and in wartime from the stroke of the sword.
21 Sarai al riparo dalla lingua pungente e non avrai timore, quando giunge la rovina.	21 You will be safe from the lash of the tongue, unafraid at the approach of the despoiler.
22 Te ne riderai della sventura e della fame e non temerai le fiere della campagna.	22 You will laugh at drought and frost, and have no fear of the beasts of the earth.
23 Farai un'alleanza con le pietre del campo e sarai in pace con le bestie selvagge.	23 You will have a pact with the stones of the field, and live in amity with wild beasts.
24 Sperimenterai la prosperità della tua tenda e ispezionando la tua dimora, non ti mancherà nulla.	24 You will know that your tent is secure, and your sheepfold unharmed when you inspect it.
25 Scoprirai che la tua prole è numerosa, e i tuoi rampolli come l'erba del prato.	25 You will see your descendants multiply, your offspring grow like the grass in the fields.
26 Te ne andrai alla tomba senza acciacchi, come il grano raccolto nella sua stagione.	26 At a ripe age you wil go to the grave, like a wheatsheaf stacked in due season.
27 Ecco quanto abbiamo studiato a fondo: è così. Ascolta e fanne profitto".	27 Al this we have observed and it is so! Heed it, you wil be the wiser for it!
