BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 - a chi teme il Signore non incoglierà male; ma nella tentazione Dio lo salverà e lo libererà da' mali.	1 No evils shall happen to him that feareth the Lord, but in temptation God will keep him, and deliver him from evils.
2 il savio non odia i comandamenti e la legge, e non sarà sbattuto [contro gli scogli] come una nave in burrasca.	2 A wise man hateth not the commandments and justices, and he shall not be dashed in pieces as a ship in a storm.
3 L'uomo assennato ha fiducia nella legge di Dio, e la legge è per lui fedele [come un oracolo].	3 A man of understanding is faithful to the law of God, and the law is faithful to him.
4 Prepara il discorso e sarai ascoltato; raccogli il tuo sapere e rispondi.	4 He that cleareth up a question, shall prepare what to say, and so having prayed he shall be heard, and shall keep discipline, and then he shall answer.
5 Come la ruota d'un carro son le interiora dello stolto, e come un asse che gira, i suoi pensieri.	5 The heart of a fool is as a wheel of a cart: and his thoughts are like a rolling axletree.
6 Come un cavallo stallone è l'amico beffardo: sotto chiunque lo monta, nitrisce.	6 A friend that is a mocker, is like a stallion horse: he neigheth under every one that sitteth upon him.
7 Perchè un giorno sopravanza un altro, mentre la luce d'ogni giorno dell'anno [viene] dal sole?	7 Why doth one day excel another, and one light another, and one year another year, when all come of the sun?
8 Dalla sapienza del Signore furono distinti, fatto che fu il sole, che obbedisce agli ordini;	8 By the knowledge of the Lord they were distinguished, the sun being made, and keeping his commandment.
9 ed egli variò le stagioni e i loro giorni festivi, che in quelle son celebrati all'ora stabilita.	9 And he ordered the seasons, and holidays of them, and in them they celebrated festivals at an hour.
10 Alcuni di quei [giorni] Dio esaltò e santificò; altri di essi mise a far numero tra i giorni. E [cosi] tutti gli uomini [vengono] dalla polvere, e dalla terra, donde fu creato Adamo.	10 Some of them God made high and great days, and some of them he put in the number of ordinary days. And all men are from the ground, and out of the earth, from whence Adam was created.
11 Nella pienezza della sapienza il Signore li distinse, e variò le loro vie:	11 With much knowledge the Lord hath divided them and diversified their ways.
12 alcuni di essi benedisse ed esaltò, e parte ne santificò e avvicinò a sè; e altri ne maledisse e umiliò, e li rovesciò dalla loro posizione.	12 Some of them hath he blessed, and exalted: and some of them hath he sanctified, and set near himself: and some of them hath he cursed and brought low, end turned them from their station.
13 Come la creta del vasaio è in mano sua perchè l'impasti e la formi,	13 As the potter's clay is in his hand, to fashion and order it:
14 e tutti i suoi destini dipendono dal beneplacito di lui; così l'uomo è in mano di colui che l'ha creato, il quale dà a lui secondo il suo giudizio.	14 All his ways are according to his ordering: so man is in the hand of him that made him, and he will render to him according to his judgment.
15 Di fronte al male sta il bene e di fronte alla morte la vita: cosi di fronte al giusto il peccatore. E similmente osserva tutte le opere dell'Altissimo: [son sempre] a due a due, l'una opposta all'altra.	15 Good is set against evil, and life against death: so also is the sinner against a just man. And so look upon all the works of the most High. Two and two, and one against another.
16 Or io mi son levato Pulitino [tra i cultori della sapienza], e come uno che racimola dietro i vendemmiatori.	16 And I awaked last of all, and as one that gathereth after the grapegatherers.
17 Nella benedizione del Signore ho sperato, e come uno che vendemmia ho riempito il tino.	17 In the blessing of God I also have hoped: and as one that gathereth grapes, have I filled the winepress.
18 Vedete come non per me solo ho lavorato, ma per tutti quelli che cercano d'istruirsi.	18 See that I have not laboured for myself only, but for all that seek discipline.
19 Ascoltatemi, o grandi del popolo, e voi, che presiedete alla società, prestate orecchio.	19 Hear me, ye great men, and all ye people, and hearken with your ears, ye rulers of the church.
20 Al figliuolo e alla moglie, al fratello e all'amico non dar braccio su te durante la tua vita. E non abbandonare ad altri le tue ricchezze, perchè tu non abbia a pentirtene e supplicare per riaverle.	20 Give not to son or wife, brother or friend, power over thee while thou livest; and give not thy estate to another, lest then repent, and thou entreat for the same.
21 Fintantoché tu vivi e respiri, che nessuno pigli il tuo posto.	21 As long as thou livest, and hast breath in thee, let no man change thee.
22 Meglio è che i figliuoli preghino te, che tu debba guardare [in supplice attesa] alle mani de' tuoi figliuoli.	22 For it is better that thy children should ask of thee, than that thou look toward the hands of thy children.
23 In tutte le tue azioni resta tu il padrone:	23 In all thy works keep the pre-eminence.
24 non imprimer macchia alla tua riputazione. Sul punto di finire i giorni di tua vita, e nell'ora della tua morte, [allora] distribuisci la tua eredità,	24 Let no stain sully thy glory. In the time when thou shalt end the days of thy life, and in the time of thy decease, distribute thy inheritance.
25 pasto, bastone e soma all'asino: pane, castigo e lavoro allo schiavo.	25 Fodder, and a wand, and a burden are for an ass: bread, and correction, and work for a slave.
26 Questi lavora [solo] se castigato, e cerca il riposo; lasciagli le mani sciolte, e cercherà la libertà.	26 He worketh under correction, and seeketh to rest: let his hands be idle, and he seeketh liberty.
27 Il giogo e la briglia fan piegare il collo rigido, e le continue fatiche domano lo schiavo;	27 The yoke and the thong bend a stiff neck, and continual labours bow a slave.
28 per lo schiavo cattivo la tortura e i ceppi! Immergilo nel lavoro, che non stia ozioso;	28 Torture and fetters are for a malicious slave: send him to work, that he be not idle:
29 perché di molto male l'ozio é maestro.	29 For idleness hath taught much evil.
30 Mettilo al lavoro, come a lui si conviene: e se non t'obbedisce, domalo co' ceppi a' piedi. Ma non eccedere verso nessun uomo, e senza diritto non far nulla di grave,	30 Set him to work: for so it is fit for him. And if he be not obedient, bring him down with fetters, but be not excessive towards any one: and do no grievous thing without judgment.
31 Se hai uno schiavo fedele, sia per te come l'anima tua, trattalo come un fratello: perché col sangue dell'anima l'hai comprato.	31 If thou have a faithful servant, let him be to thee as thy own soul: treat him as a brother: because in the blood of thy soul thou hast gotten him.
32 Se ingiustamente lo maltratti, si darà alla fuga.	32 If thou hurt him unjustly, he will run away:
33 E se piglia e se ne va, non saprai a chi dimandarne, né per qual via andarne in cerca.	33 And if he rise up and depart, thou knowest not whom to ask, and in what way to seek him.
