CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINGREEK BIBLE
And so I make known to you, brothers, the Gospel that I preached to you, which you also received, and on which you stand.1 Σας φανερονω δε, αδελφοι, το ευαγγελιον, το οποιον εκηρυξα προς εσας, το οποιον και παρελαβετε, εις το οποιον και ιστασθε,
By the Gospel, too, you are being saved, if you hold to the understanding that I preached to you, lest you believe in vain.2 δια του οποιου και σωζεσθε, τινι τροπω σας εκηρυξα αυτο, αν φυλαττητε αυτο, εκτος εαν επιστευσατε ματαιως.
For I handed on to you, first of all, what I also received: that Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures;3 Διοτι παρεδωκα εις εσας εν πρωτοις εκεινο, το οποιον και παρελαβον, οτι ο Χριστος απεθανε δια τας αμαρτιας ημων κατα τας γραφας,
and that he was buried; and that he rose again on the third day, according to the Scriptures;4 και οτι εταφη, και οτι ανεστη την τριτην ημεραν κατα τας γραφας,
and that he was seen by Cephas, and after that by the eleven.5 και οτι εφανη εις τον Κηφαν, επειτα εις τους δωδεκα?
Next he was seen by more than five hundred brothers at one time, many of whom remain, even to the present time, although some have fallen asleep.6 μετα ταυτα εφανη εις πεντακοσιους και επεκεινα αδελφους δια μιας, εκ των οποιων οι πλειοτεροι μενουσιν εως τωρα, τινες δε και εκοιμηθησαν?
Next, he was seen by James, then by all the Apostles.7 επειτα εφανη εις τον Ιακωβον, επειτα εις παντας τους αποστολους?
And last of all, he was seen also by me, as if I were someone born at the wrong time.8 τελευταιον δε παντων εφανη και εις εμε ως εις εκτρωμα.
For I am the least of the Apostles. I am not worthy to be called an Apostle, because I persecuted the Church of God.9 Διοτι εγω ειμαι ο ελαχιστος των αποστολων, οστις δεν ειμαι αξιος να ονομαζωμαι αποστολος, διοτι κατεδιωξα την εκκλησιαν του Θεου?
But, by the grace of God, I am what I am. And his grace in me has not been empty, since I have labored more abundantly than all of them. Yet it is not I, but the grace of God within me.10 αλλα χαριτι Θεου ειμαι οτι ειμαι?
For whether it is I or they: so we preach, and so you have believed.11 Ειτε λοιπον εγω ειτε εκεινοι, ουτω κηρυττομεν και ουτως επιστευσατε.
Now if Christ is preached, that he rose again from the dead, how is it that some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?12 Εαν δε ο Χριστος κηρυττηται οτι ανεστη εκ νεκρων, πως τινες μεταξυ σας λεγουσιν οτι αναστασις νεκρων δεν ειναι;
For if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not risen.13 Και εαν αναστασις νεκρων δεν ηναι, ουδ' ο Χριστος ανεστη?
And if Christ has not risen, then our preaching is useless, and your faith is also useless.14 και αν ο Χριστος δεν ανεστη, ματαιον αρα ειναι το κηρυγμα ημων, ματαια δε και η πιστις σας.
Then, too, we would be found to be false witnesses of God, because we would have given testimony against God, saying that he had raised up Christ, when he had not raised him up, if, indeed, the dead do not rise again.15 Ευρισκομεθα δε και ψευδομαρτυρες του Θεου, διοτι εμαρτυρησαμεν περι του Θεου οτι ανεστησε τον Χριστον, τον οποιον δεν ανεστησεν, εαν καθ' υποθεσιν δεν ανασταινωνται νεκροι.
For if the dead do not rise again, then neither has Christ risen again.16 Διοτι εαν δεν ανασταινωνται νεκροι, ουδ' ο Χριστος ανεστη?
But if Christ has not risen, then your faith is vain; for you would still be in your sins.17 αλλ' εαν ο Χριστος δεν ανεστη, ματαια η πιστις σας?
Then, too, those who have fallen asleep in Christ would have perished.18 Αρα και οι κοιμηθεντες εν Χριστω απωλεσθησαν.
If we have hope in Christ for this life only, then we are more miserable than all men.19 Εαν εν ταυτη τη ζωη μονον ελπιζωμεν εις τον Χριστον, ειμεθα ελεεινοτεροι παντων των ανθρωπων.
But now Christ has risen again from the dead, as the first-fruits of those who sleep.20 Αλλα τωρα ο Χριστος ανεστη εκ νεκρων, εγεινεν απαρχη των κεκοιμημενων.
For certainly, death came through a man. And so, the resurrection of the dead came through a man21 Διοτι επειδη ο θανατος ηλθε δι' ανθρωπου, ουτω και δι' ανθρωπου η αναστασις των νεκρων.
And just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be brought to life,22 Επειδη καθως παντες αποθνησκουσιν εν τω Αδαμ, ουτω και παντες θελουσι ζωοποιηθη εν τω Χριστω.
but each one in his proper order: Christ, as the first-fruits, and next, those who are of Christ, who have believed in his advent.23 Εκαστος ομως κατα την ιδιαν αυτου ταξιν?
Afterwards is the end, when he will have handed over the kingdom to God the Father, when he will have emptied all principality, and authority, and power.24 Υστερον θελει εισθαι το τελος, οταν παραδωση την βασιλειαν εις τον Θεον και Πατερα, οταν καταργηση πασαν αρχην και πασαν εξουσιαν και δυναμιν.
For it is necessary for him to reign, until he has set all his enemies under his feet.25 Διοτι πρεπει να βασιλευη εωσου θεση παντας τους εχθρους υπο τους ποδας αυτου.
Lastly, the enemy called death shall be destroyed. For he has subjected all things under his feet. And although he says,26 Εσχατος εχθρος καταργειται ο θανατος?
“All things have been subjected to him,” without doubt he does not include the One who has subjected all things to him.27 διοτι παντα υπεταξεν υπο τους ποδας αυτου.
And when all things will have been subjected to him, then even the Son himself will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to him, so that God may be all in all.28 Οταν δε υποταχθωσιν εις αυτον τα παντα, τοτε και αυτος ο Υιος θελει υποταχθη εις τον υποταξαντα εις αυτον τα παντα, δια να ηναι ο Θεος τα παντα εν πασιν.
Otherwise, what will those who are being baptized for the dead do, if the dead do not rise again at all? Why then are they being baptized for them?29 Επειδη τι θελουσι καμει οι βαπτιζομενοι υπερ των νεκρων, εαν τωοντι οι νεκροι δεν ανασταινωνται, δια τι και βαπτιζονται υπερ των νεκρων;
Why also do we endure trials every hour?30 δια τι και ημεις κινδυνευομεν πασαν ωραν;
Daily I die, by means of your boasting, brothers: you whom I have in Christ Jesus our Lord.31 Καθ' ημεραν αποθνησκω, μα την εις εσας καυχησιν μου, την οποιαν εχω εν Χριστω Ιησου τω Κυριω ημων.
If, according to man, I fought with the beasts at Ephesus, how would that benefit me, if the dead do not rise again? “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die.”32 Εαν κατα ανθρωπον επολεμησα με θηρια εν Εφεσω, τι το οφελος εις εμε; αν οι νεκροι δεν ανασταινωνται, ας φαγωμεν και ας πιωμεν, διοτι αυριον αποθνησκομεν.
Do not be led astray. Evil communication corrupts good morals.33 Μη πλανασθε?
Be vigilant, you just ones, and do not be willing to sin. For certain persons have an ignorance of God. I say this to you with respect.34 Συνελθετε εις εαυτους κατα το δικαιον και μη αμαρτανετε?
But someone may say, “How do the dead rise again?” or, “What type of body do they return with?”35 Αλλα θελει τις ειπει? Πως ανασταινονται οι νεκροι; και με ποιον σωμα ερχονται;
How foolish! What you sow cannot be brought back to life, unless it first dies.36 Αφρον, εκεινο το οποιον συ σπειρεις, δεν ζωογονειται εαν δεν αποθανη?
And what you sow is not the body that will be in the future, but a bare grain, such as of wheat, or of some other grain.37 και εκεινο το οποιον σπειρεις, δεν σπειρεις το σωμα το οποιον μελλει να γεινη, αλλα γυμνον κοκκον, σιτου τυχον η τινος των λοιπων.
For God gives it a body according to his will, and according to each seed’s proper body.38 Ο δε Θεος διδει εις αυτο σωμα καθως ηθελησε, και εις εκαστον των σπερματων το ιδιαιτερον αυτου σωμα.
Not all flesh is the same flesh. But one is indeed of men, another truly is of beasts, another is of birds, and another is of fish.39 Πασα σαρξ δεν ειναι η αυτη σαρξ, αλλα αλλη μεν σαρξ των ανθρωπων, αλλη δε σαρξ των κτηνων, αλλη δε των ιχθυων και αλλη των πτηνων.
Also, there are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies. But while the one, certainly, has the glory of heaven, the other has the glory of earth.40 Ειναι και σωματα επουρανια και σωματα επιγεια?
One has the brightness of the sun, another the brightness of the moon, and another the brightness of the stars. For even star differs from star in brightness.41 Αλλη δοξα ειναι του ηλιου, και αλλη δοξα της σεληνης, και αλλη δοξα των αστερων?
So it is also with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown in corruption shall rise to incorruption.42 Ουτω και η αναστασις των νεκρων.
What is sown in dishonor shall rise to glory. What is sown in weakness shall rise to power.43 σπειρεται εν ατιμια, ανισταται εν δοξη?
What is sown with an animal body shall rise with a spiritual body. If there is an animal body, there is also a spiritual one.44 σπειρεται σωμα ζωικον, ανισταται σωμα πνευματικον.
Just as it was written that the first man, Adam, was made with a living soul, so shall the last Adam be made with a spirit brought back to life.45 Ουτως ειναι και γεγραμμενον?
So what is, at first, not spiritual, but animal, next becomes spiritual.46 Πλην ουχι πρωτον το πνευματικον, αλλα το ζωικον, επειτα το πνευματικον.
The first man, being earthly, was of the earth; the second man, being heavenly, will be of heaven.47 Ο πρωτος ανθρωπος ειναι εκ της γης χοικος, ο δευτερος ανθρωπος ο Κυριος εξ ουρανου.
Such things as are like the earth are earthly; and such things as are like the heavens are heavenly.48 Οποιος ο χοικος, τοιουτοι και οι χοικοι, και οποιος ο επουρανιος, τοιουτοι και οι επουρανιοι?
And so, just as we have carried the image of what is earthly, let us also carry the image of what is heavenly.49 και καθως εφορεσαμεν την εικονα του χοικου, θελομεν φορεσει και την εικονα του επουρανιου.
Now I say this, brothers, because flesh and blood is not able to possess the kingdom of God; neither will what is corrupt possess what is incorrupt.50 Τουτο δε λεγω, αδελφοι, οτι σαρξ και αιμα βασιλειαν Θεου δεν δυνανται να κληρονομησωσιν, ουδε η φθορα κληρονομει την αφθαρσιαν.
Behold, I tell you a mystery. Certainly, we shall all rise again, but we shall not all be transformed:51 Ιδου, μυστηριον λεγω προς εσας?
in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will rise up, incorruptible. And we shall be transformed.52 εν μια στιγμη, εν ριπη οφθαλμου, εν τη εσχατη σαλπιγγι?
Thus, it is necessary for this corruptibility to be clothed with incorruptibility, and for this mortality to be clothed with immortality.53 Διοτι πρεπει το φθαρτον τουτο να ενδυθη αφθαρσιαν, και το θνητον τουτο να ενδυθη αθανασιαν.
And when this mortality has been clothed with immortality, then the word that was written shall occur: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”54 Οταν δε το φθαρτον τουτο ενδυθη αφθαρσιαν και το θνητον τουτο ενδυθη αθανασιαν, τοτε θελει γεινει ο λογος ο γεγραμμενος?
“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”55 Που, θανατε, το κεντρον σου; που, αδη, η νικη σου;
Now the sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.56 το δε κεντρον του θανατου ειναι η αμαρτια, και η δυναμις της αμαρτιας ο νομος.
But thanks be to God, who has given us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.57 Αλλα χαρις εις τον Θεον, οστις διδει εις ημας την νικην δια του Κυριου ημων Ιησου Χριστου.
And so, my beloved brothers, be steadfast and unmovable, abounding always in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not useless in the Lord.58 Ωστε, αδελφοι μου αγαπητοι, γινεσθε στερεοι, αμετακινητοι, περισσευοντες παντοτε εις το εργον του Κυριου, γινωσκοντες οτι ο κοπος σας δεν ειναι ματαιος εν Κυριω.
