Proverbs 22

1 A good name is better than many riches. And good esteem is above silver and gold.	1 Un buon nome val più di grandi ricchezze e la benevolenza altrui più dell'argento e dell'oro.
2 The rich and poor have met one another. The Lord is the maker of them both.	2 Il ricco e il povero si incontrano, il Signore ha creato l'uno e l'altro.
3 The clever saw evil and hid himself. The innocent continued on and was afflicted with damage.	3 L'accorto vede il pericolo e si nasconde, gli inesperti vanno avanti e la pagano.
4 The end of moderation is the fear of the Lord, riches and glory and life.	4 Frutti dell'umiltà sono il timore di Dio, la ricchezza, l'onore e la vita.
5 Weapons and swords are on the way of the perverse. But he who guards his own soul withdraws far from them.	5 Spine e tranelli sono sulla via del perverso; chi ha cura di se stesso sta lontano.
6 The proverb is: A youth is close to his way; even when he is old, he will not withdraw from it.	6 Abitua il giovane secondo la via da seguire; neppure da vecchio se ne allontanerà.
7 The rich rule over the poor. And the borrower is servant to the lender.	7 Il ricco domina sul povero e chi riceve prestiti è schiavo del suo creditore.
8 Whoever sows iniquity will reap evils, and by the rod of his own wrath he will be consumed.	8 Chi semina l'ingiustizia raccoglie la miseria e il bastone a servizio della sua collera svanirà.
9 Whoever is inclined to mercy shall be blessed, for from his bread he has given to the poor. Whoever gives gifts will acquire victory and honor. But he carries away the soul of the receiver.	9 Chi ha l'occhio generoso sarà benedetto, perché egli dona del suo pane al povero.
10 Cast out the one who ridicules, and conflict will go out with him, and accusations and insults will cease.	10 Scaccia il beffardo e la discordia se ne andrà e cesseranno i litigi e gli insulti.
11 Whoever loves cleanness of heart, because of the grace of his lips, will have the king as his friend.	11 Il Signore ama chi è puro di cuore e chi ha la grazia sulle labbra è amico del re.
12 The eyes of the Lord watch over knowledge. And the words of the iniquitous are supplanted.	12 Gli occhi del Signore proteggono la scienza ed egli confonde le parole del perfido.
13 The lazy one says: “There is a lion outside. I might be slain in the midst of the streets.”	13 Il pigro dice: "C'è un leone là fuori: sarei ucciso in mezzo alla strada".
14 The mouth of a foreign woman is a deep pit; the Lord was angry with him who will fall into it.	14 La bocca delle straniere è una fossa profonda, chi è in ira al Signore vi cade.
15 Foolishness has been bound to the heart of a child, and a rod of discipline shall cause it to flee.	15 La stoltezza è legata al cuore del fanciullo, ma il bastone della correzione l'allontanerà da lui.
16 Whoever slanders the poor, so as to augment his own riches, will give it away to one who is richer, and will be in need.	16 Opprimere il povero non fa che arricchirlo, dare a un ricco non fa che impoverirlo.
17 Incline your ear, and listen to the words of the wise. Then apply your heart to my doctrine.	17 Porgi l'orecchio e ascolta le parole dei sapienti e applica la tua mente alla mia istruzione,
18 It shall be beautiful to you, if you preserve it in your inner self, and it shall overflow from your lips,	18 perché ti sarà piacevole custodirle nel tuo intimo e averle tutte insieme pronte sulle labbra.
19 so that your confidence may be in the Lord. Therefore, I also have revealed it to you this day.	19 Perché la tua fiducia sia riposta nel Signore, voglio indicarti oggi la tua strada.
20 Behold, I have written it for you in three ways, and with meditations and knowledge,	20 Non ti ho scritto forse trenta tra consigli e istruzioni,
21 so that I might reveal to you, firmly and with words of truth, in order to respond about these things to those who sent you.	21 perché tu sappia esprimere una parola giusta e rispondere con parole sicure a chi ti interroga?
22 Do not act with violence toward the pauper because he is poor. And do not weary the needy at the gate.	22 Non depredare il povero, perché egli è povero, e non affliggere il misero in tribunale,
23 For the Lord will judge his case, and he will pierce those who have pierced his soul.	23 perché il Signore difenderà la loro causa e spoglierà della vita coloro che li hanno spogliati.
24 Do not be willing to be a friend to an angry man, and do not walk with a furious man,	24 Non ti associare a un collerico e non praticare un uomo iracondo,
25 lest perhaps you learn his ways, and take up a stumbling block to your soul.	25 per non imparare i suoi costumi e procurarti una trappola per la tua vita.

29 Have you seen a man swift in his work? He shall stand in the sight of kings, and not before those who are disreputable.	29 Hai visto un uomo sollecito nel lavoro? Egli si sistemerà al servizio del re, non resterà al servizio di persone oscure.
