DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
I charge thee, before God and Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead, by his coming, and his kingdom:1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who willjudge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingly power:
Preach the word: be instant in season, out of season: reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine.2 proclaim the word; be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient; convince, reprimand, encourage through all patience and teaching.
For there shall be a time, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears:3 For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine but, following their own desires and insatiable curiosity, will accumulate teachers
And will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables.4 and will stop listening to the truth and will be diverted to myths.
But be thou vigilant, labour in all things, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil thy ministry. Be sober.5 But you, be self-possessed in all circumstances; put up with hardship; perform the work of an evangelist; fulfill your ministry.
For I am even now ready to be sacrificed: and the time of my dissolution is at hand.6 For I am already being poured out like a libation, and the time of my departure is at hand.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.7 I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.
As to the rest, there is laid up for me a crown of justice, which the Lord the just judge will render to me in that day: and not only to me, but to them also that love his coming. Make haste to come to me quickly.8 From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for his appearance.
For Demas hath left me, loving this world, and is gone to Thessalonica:9 Try to join me soon,
Crescens into Galatia, Titus into Dalmatia.10 for Demas, enamored of the present world, deserted me and went to Thessalonica, Crescens to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia.
Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.11 Luke is the only one with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is helpful to me in the ministry.
But Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus.12 I have sent Tychicus to Ephesus.
The cloak that I left at Troas, with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, especially the parchments.13 When you come, bring the cloak I left with Carpus in Troas, the papyrus rolls, and especially the parchments.
Alexander the coppersmith hath done me much evil: the Lord will reward him according to his works:14 Alexander the coppersmith did me a great deal of harm; the Lord will repay him according to his deeds.
Whom do thou also avoid, for he hath greatly withstood our words.15 You too be on guard against him, for he has strongly resisted our preaching.
At my first answer no man stood with me, but all forsook me: may it not be laid to their charge.16 At my first defense no one appeared on my behalf, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them!
But the Lord stood by me, and strengthened me, that by me the preaching may be accomplished, and that all the Gentiles may hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.17 But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength, so that through me the proclamation might be completed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was rescued from the lion's mouth.
The Lord hath delivered me from every evil work: and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil threat and will bring me safe to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Salute Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus.19 Greet Prisca and Aquila and the family of Onesiphorus.
Erastus remained at Corinth. And Trophimus I left sick at Miletus.20 Erastus remained in Corinth, while I left Trophimus sick at Miletus.
Make haste to come before winter Eubulus and Pudens, and Linus and Claudia, and all the brethren, salute thee.21 Try to get here before winter. Eubulus, Pudens, Linus, Claudia, and all the brothers send greetings.
The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.22 The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with all of you.
