Sirach 25

DOUAI-RHEIMS	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 With three things my spirit is pleased, which are approved before God and men:	1 Meu espírito se compraz em três coisas que têm a aprovação de Deus e dos homens:
2 The concord of brethren, and the love of neighbours, and mall and wife that agree well together.	2 a união entre os irmãos, o amor entre os parentes, e um marido que vive bem com sua mulher.
3 Three sorts my soul hateth, and I am greatly grieved at their life:	3 Mas há três espécies de gente que minha alma detesta, e cuja vida me é insuportável:
4 A poor man that is proud: a rich man that is a liar: an old man that is a fool, and doting.	4 um pobre orgulhoso, um rico mentiroso e um ancião louco e insensato.
5 The things that thou hast not gathered in thy youth, how shalt thou find them in thy old age?	5 Como acharás na velhice aquilo que não tiveres acumulado na juventude?
6 O how comely is judgment for a grey head, and for ancients to know counsel!	6 Quão belo é para a velhice o saber julgar, e para os anciãos o saber aconselhar!
7 O how comely is wisdom for the aged, and understanding and counsel to men of honour!	7 Quão bela é a sabedoria nas pessoas de idade avançada, e a inteligência com a prudência nas pessoas honradas!
8 Much experience is the crown of old men, and the fear of God is their glory.	8 A experiência consumada é a coroa dos anciãos; o temor de Deus é a sua glória.
9 Nine things that are not to be imagined by the heart have I magnified, and the tenth I will utter to men with my tongue.	9 Nove coisas se apresentam ao meu espírito, as quais considero felizes, e uma décima que anunciarei aos homens:
10 A man that hath joy of his children: and he that liveth and seeth the fall of his enemies.	10 um homem que encontra a sua alegria em seus filhos; um homem que vive o bastante para ver a ruína de seus inimigos;
11 Blessed is he. that dwelleth with a wise woman, and that hath not slipped with his tongue, and that hath not served such as are unworthy of him.	11 aquele - feliz dele! - que vive com uma mulher sensata, e que não pecou pela língua, nem teve de servir a pessoas indignas dele.
12 Blessed is he that findeth a true friend, and that declareth justice to an ear that heareth.	12 Feliz aquele que encontrou um amigo verdadeiro, e que fala da justiça a um ouvido atento.
13 How great is he that findeth wisdom and knowledge! but there is none above him that feareth the Lord.	13 Como é grande aquele que encontrou sabedoria e ciência! Mas nada é tão grande como aquele que teme ao Senhor:
14 The fear of God hath set itself above all things:	14 o temor a Deus coloca-o acima de tudo.
15 Blessed is the man, to whom it is given to have the fear of God: he that holdeth it, to whom shall he be likened?	15 Feliz o homem que recebeu o dom do temor a Deus.
16 The fear of God is the beginning of his love: and the beginning of faith is to be fast joined unto it.	16 O temor a Deus é o começo de seu amor, e a ele é preciso acrescentar um princípio de fé.
17 The sadness of the heart is every plague: and the wickedness of a woman is all evil.	17 A tristeza do coração é uma chaga universal, e a maldade feminina é uma malícia consumada.
18 And a man will choose any plague, but the plague of the heart:	18 Toda chaga, não, porém, a chaga do coração;
19 And ally wickedness, but the wickedness of a woman:	19 toda malícia, não, porém, a malícia da mulher;
20 And any affliction, but the affliction from them that hate him:	20 toda vingança, não, porém, a que nos causam nossos adversários;
21 And ally revenge, but the revenge of enemies.	21 toda vingança, não, porém, a de nossos inimigos.
22 There is no head worse than the head of a serpent:	22 Não há veneno pior que o das serpentes;
23 And there is no anger above the anger of a woman. It will be more agreeable to abide with a lion and a dragon, than to dwell with a wicked woman.	23 não há cólera que vença a da mulher. É melhor viver com um leão e um dragão, que morar com uma mulher maldosa.
24 The wickedness of a woman changeth her face: and she darkeneth her countenance as a bear: and sheweth it like sackcloth. In the midst of her neighbours,	24 A malícia de uma mulher transtorna-lhe as feições, obscurece-lhe o olhar como o de um urso, e dá-lhe uma tez com a aparência de saco.
25 Her husband groaned, and hearing he sighed a little.	25 Entre seus parentes, queixa-se o seu marido, e, ouvindo-os, suspira amargamente.
26 All malice is shore to the malice of a woman, let the lot of sinners fall upon her.	26 Toda malícia é leve, comparada com a malícia de uma mulher; que a sorte dos pecadores caia sobre ela!
27 As the climbing of a sandy way is to the feet of the aged, so is a wife full of tongue to a quiet man.	27 Como uma ladeira arenosa aos pés de um ancião, assim é a mulher tagarela para um marido pacato.
28 Look not upon a woman's beauty, and desire not a woman for beauty.	28 Não contemples a beleza de uma mulher, não cobices uma mulher pela sua beleza.
29 A woman's anger, and impudence, and confusion is great.	29 Grandes são a cólera de uma mulher, sua audácia, sua desordem.
30 A woman, if she have superiority, is contrary to her husband.	30 Se a mulher tiver o mando, ela se erguerá contra o marido.
31 A wicked woman abateth the courage, and maketh a heavy countenance, and a wounded heart.	31 Coração abatido, semblante triste e chaga de coração: eis (o que faz) uma mulher maldosa.
32 Feeble hands, and disjointed knees, a woman that doth not make her husband happy.	32 Mãos lânguidas, joelhos que se dobram: eis (o que faz) uma mulher que não traz felicidade ao seu marido.
33 From the woman came the beginning of sin, and by her we all die.	33 Foi pela mulher que começou o pecado, e é por causa dela que todos morremos.
34 Give no issue to thy water, no, not a little: nor to a wicked woman liberty to gad abroad.	34 Não dês à tua água a mais ligeira abertura, nem à mulher maldosa a liberdade de sair a público.
35 If she walk not at thy hand, she will confound thee in the sight of thy enemies.	35 Se ela não andar sob a direção de tuas mãos, ela te cobrirá de vergonha na presença de teus inimigos.
36 Cut her off from thy flesh, lest she always abuse thee.	36 Separa-te do seu corpo, a fim de que não abuse sempre de ti.
