Proverbs 19

DOUAI-RHEIMSLXX
Better is the poor man, that walketh in his simplicity, than a rich man that is perverse in his lips, and unwise.1 -
Where there is no knowledge of the soul, there is no good: and he that is hasty with his feet shall stumble.2 -
The folly of a man supplanteth his seeps: and he fretteth in his mind against God.3 αφροσυνη ανδρος λυμαινεται τας οδους αυτου τον δε θεον αιτιαται τη καρδια αυτου
Riches make many friends: but from the poor man, even they whom he had, depart.4 πλουτος προστιθησιν φιλους πολλους ο δε πτωχος και απο του υπαρχοντος φιλου λειπεται
A false witness shall not be unpunished: and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.5 μαρτυς ψευδης ουκ ατιμωρητος εσται ο δε εγκαλων αδικως ου διαφευξεται
Many honour the person of him that is mighty, and are friends of him that giveth gifts.6 πολλοι θεραπευουσιν προσωπα βασιλεων πας δε ο κακος γινεται ονειδος ανδρι
The brethren of the poor man hate him: moreover also his friends have departed far from him. He that followeth after words only, shall have nothing.7 πας ος αδελφον πτωχον μισει και φιλιας μακραν εσται εννοια αγαθη τοις ειδοσιν αυτην εγγιει ανηρ δε φρονιμος ευρησει αυτην ο πολλα κακοποιων τελεσιουργει κακιαν ος δε ερεθιζει λογους ου σωθησεται
But he that possesseth a mind, loveth his own soul, and he that keepeth prudence shall find good things.8 ο κτωμενος φρονησιν αγαπα εαυτον ος δε φυλασσει φρονησιν ευρησει αγαθα
A false witness shall not be unpunished: and he that speaketh lies, shall perish.9 μαρτυς ψευδης ουκ ατιμωρητος εσται ος δ' αν εκκαυση κακιαν απολειται υπ' αυτης
Delicacies are not seemly for a fool: nor for a servant to have rule over princes.10 ου συμφερει αφρονι τρυφη και εαν οικετης αρξηται μεθ' υβρεως δυναστευειν
The learning of a man is known by patience and his glory is to pass over wrongs.11 ελεημων ανηρ μακροθυμει το δε καυχημα αυτου επερχεται παρανομοις
As the roaring of a lion, so also is the anger of a king: and his cheerfulness as the dew upon the grass.12 βασιλεως απειλη ομοια βρυγμω λεοντος ωσπερ δε δροσος επι χορτω ουτως το ιλαρον αυτου
A foolish son is the grief of his father: and a wrangling wife is like a roof continually dropping through.13 αισχυνη πατρι υιος αφρων και ουχ αγναι ευχαι απο μισθωματος εταιρας
House and riches are given by parents: but a prudent wife is properly from the Lord.14 οικον και υπαρξιν μεριζουσιν πατερες παισιν παρα δε θεου αρμοζεται γυνη ανδρι
Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep, and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.15 δειλια κατεχει ανδρογυναιον ψυχη δε αεργου πεινασει
He that keepeth the commandment, keepeth his own soul: but he that neglecteth his own way, shall die.16 ος φυλασσει εντολην τηρει την εαυτου ψυχην ο δε καταφρονων των εαυτου οδων απολειται
He that hath mercy on the poor, lendeth to the Lord: and he will repay him.17 δανιζει θεω ο ελεων πτωχον κατα δε το δομα αυτου ανταποδωσει αυτω
Chastise thy son, despair not: but to the killing of him set not thy soul.18 παιδευε υιον σου ουτως γαρ εσται ευελπις εις δε υβριν μη επαιρου τη ψυχη σου
He that is impatient, shall suffer damage: and when he shall take away he shall add another thing.19 κακοφρων ανηρ πολλα ζημιωθησεται εαν δε λοιμευηται και την ψυχην αυτου προσθησει
Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayst be wise in thy latter end.20 ακουε υιε παιδειαν πατρος σου ινα σοφος γενη επ' εσχατων σου
There are many thoughts in the heart of a man: but the will of the Lord shall stand firm.21 πολλοι λογισμοι εν καρδια ανδρος η δε βουλη του κυριου εις τον αιωνα μενει
A needy man is merciful: and better is the poor than the lying man.22 καρπος ανδρι ελεημοσυνη κρεισσων δε πτωχος δικαιος η πλουσιος ψευστης
The fear of the Lord is unto life: and he shall abide in fulness without being visited with evil.23 φοβος κυριου εις ζωην ανδρι ο δε αφοβος αυλισθησεται εν τοποις ου ουκ επισκοπειται γνωσις
The slothful hideth his hand under his armpit, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth.24 ο εγκρυπτων εις τον κολπον αυτου χειρας αδικως ουδε τω στοματι ου μη προσαγαγη αυτας
The wicked man being; scourged, the fool shall be wiser: but if thou rebuke a wise man he will understand discipline.25 λοιμου μαστιγουμενου αφρων πανουργοτερος γινεται εαν δε ελεγχης ανδρα φρονιμον νοησει αισθησιν
He that afflicteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is infamous and unhappy.26 ο ατιμαζων πατερα και απωθουμενος μητερα αυτου καταισχυνθησεται και επονειδιστος εσται
Cease not, O my son, to hear instruction, and be not ignorant of the words of knowledge.27 υιος απολειπομενος φυλαξαι παιδειαν πατρος μελετησει ρησεις κακας
An unjust witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.28 ο εγγυωμενος παιδα αφρονα καθυβριζει δικαιωμα στομα δε ασεβων καταπιεται κρισεις
Judgments are prepared for scorners: and striking hammers for the bodies of fools.29 ετοιμαζονται ακολαστοις μαστιγες και τιμωριαι ωμοις αφρονων
