Proverbios 20

1 El vino es excitante y la bebida turbulenta: el que se embriaga no se hará sabio.	1 Wine is arrogant, strong drink is riotous; none who goes astray for it is wise.
2 Como rugido de león es la furia del rey: el que lo pone fuera de si se juega la vida.	2 The dread of the king is as when a lion roars; he who incurs his anger forfeits his life.
3 Es un honor para el hombre evitar las disputas, pero el necio provoca su estallido.	3 It is honorable for a man to shun strife, while every fool starts a quarrel.
4 El perezoso no ara en otoño, en la cosecha busca, y no hay nada.	4 In seedtime the sluggard plows not; when he looks for the harvest, it is not there.
5 Aguas profundas son los designios del corazón humano: el hombre inteligente sabe extraerlas.	5 The intention in the human heart is like water far below the surface, but the man of intelligence draws it forth.
6 Muchos se precian de su fidelidad, pero ¿quién encontrará a un hombre sincero?	6 Many are declared to be men of virtue: but who can find one worthy of trust?
7 El justo camina con integridad, ¡felices sus hijos después de él!	7 When a man walks in integrity and justice, happy are his children after him!
8 Un rey sentado en el tribunal discierne con su mirada toda maldad.	8 A king seated on the throne of judgment dispels all evil with his glance.
9 ¿Quién puede decir: «Purifiqué mi corazón, estoy limpio de mi pecado»?	9 Who can say, "I have made my heart clean, I am cleansed of my sin"?
10 Usar dos pesas y dos medidas, ambas cosas las hizo el Señor.	10 Varying weights, varying measures, are both an abomination to the LORD.
11 Por su manera de obrar, el niño ya da a conocer si su conducta será pura y recta.	11 Even by his manners the child betrays whether his conduct is innocent and right.
12 El oído que oye y el ojo que ve: ambas cosas las hizo el Señor.	12 The ear that hears, and the eye that sees-- the LORD has made them both.
13 No ames el sueño, para no empobrecerte, abre bien los ojos y te saciarás de pan.	13 Love not sleep, lest you be reduced to poverty; eyes wide open mean abundant food.
14 ¡»Malo, malo!», dice el comprador, pero apenas sale, se felicita.	14 "Bad, bad!" says the buyer; but once he has gone his way, he boasts.
15 Hay oro y muchas perlas, pero nada más precioso que una boca sabia.	15 Like gold or a wealth of corals, wise lips are a precious ornament.
16 Toma su ropa, porque salió fiador de otro, tómalo a él como prenda, porque dio su aval a gente extraña.	16 Take his garment who becomes surety for another, and for strangers yield it up!
17 Es agradable al hombre el pan de la mentira, pero después la boca se le llena de guijarros.	17 The bread of deceit is sweet to a man, but afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel.
18 Los proyectos se afianzan con el consejo y la guerra se hace con estrategia.	18 Plans made after advice succeed; so with wise guidance wage your war.
19 El calumniador descubre los secretos, no tengas nada que ver con un charlatán.	19 A newsmonger reveals secrets; so have nothing to do with a babbler!
20 Al que maldice a su padre y a su madre se le apagará la lámpara en plena oscuridad.	20 If one curses his father or mother, his lamp will go out at the coming of darkness.
21 Fortuna adquirida rápidamente al comienzo no será bendecida al final.	21 Possessions gained hastily at the outset will in the end not be blessed.
22 No digas: «Voy a pagar mal con mal», espera en el Señor y él te salvará.	22 Say not, "I will repay evil!" Trust in the LORD and he will help you.
23 El Señor abomina el uso de dos pesas, las balanzas falseadas no son nada bueno.	23 Varying weights are an abomination to the LORD, and false scales are not good.
24 Del Señor dependen los pasos del hombre: ¿cómo puede el hombre comprender su camino?	24 Man's steps are from the LORD; how, then, can a man understand his way?
25 Es una trampa para el hombre consagrar algo a la ligera y recapacitar después de hacer un voto.	25 Rashly to pledge a sacred gift is a trap for a man, or to regret a vow once made.
26 Un rey sabio discierne a los malvados y hace girar la rueda sobre ellos.	26 A wise king winnows the wicked, and threshes them under the cartwheel.
27 El espíritu del hombre es una lámpara del Señor, que sondea hasta el fondo de sus entrañas.	27 A lamp from the LORD is the breath of man; it searches through all his inmost being.
28 La bondad y la fidelidad custodian al rey, y él sostiene su trono por la justicia.	28 Kindness and piety safeguard the king, and he upholds his throne by justice.
29 La gloria de los jóvenes es su vigor, y el esplendor de los ancianos, los cabellos blancos.	29 The glory of young men is their strength, and the dignity of old men is gray hair.
30 Las llagas de una herida son un remedio para el mal y los golpes curan hasta el fondo de las entrañas.	30 Evil is cleansed away by bloody lashes, and a scourging to the inmost being.
