| 1 Sede, pois, imitadores de Deus, como filhos muito amados. | 1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; |
| 2 Andai no amor, a exemplo de Cristo, que nos amou e se entregou a si mesmo por nós a Deus, como oferenda e sacrifício de suave odor. | 2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. |
| 3 Nem sequer se nomeie entre vós a fornicação ou qualquer impureza ou avareza, como convém a santos; | 3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; |
| 4 nem conversas torpes, nem loucas, nem chocarrices, que são coisas inconvenientes, mas antes (saiam da vossa boca) ações de graças (a Deus). | 4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. |
| 5 Com efeito, sabei-o bem, nenhum fornicador ou impudico ou avaro, o qual é um idólatra (do dinheiro), terá herança no reino de Cristo e de Deus. | 5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. |
| 6 Ninguém vos seduza com palavras vãs, porque por estas desordens vem a ira de Deus sobre os filhos rebeldes. | 6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. |
| 7 Não queirais, pois, ter comunicação com eles. | 7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them. |
| 8 Outrora éreis trevas, mas agora sois luz no Senhor. Andai como filhos da luz, | 8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: |
| 9 porque o fruto da luz consiste em toda a espécie de bondade, de justiça e de verdade. | 9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) |
| 10 Examinando o que é agradável a Deus, | 10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. |
| 11 não tomeis parte nas obras infrutuosas (dos filhos) das trevas, mas antes condenai-as. | 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. |
| 12 Porque as coisas que eles fazem em secreto, vergonha é até dizê-las. | 12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. |
| 13 Mas todas as coisas condenadas são postas a descoberto pela luz, e tudo o que é manifestado torna-se luz. | 13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. |
| 14 Por isso (a Escritura) diz: Desperta, tu que dormes (no sono do pecado); levanta-te dentre os mortos, e Cristo te alumiará (com a sua graça) (Is. 26, 19). | 14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. |
| 15 Cuidai, pois, Irmãos, em andar com prudência, não como insensatos, | 15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, |
| 16 mas como circunspectos. Aproveitai o tempo, pois que os dias são maus. | 16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. |
| 17 Portanto não sejais imprudentes, mas considerai qual a vontade do Senhor. | 17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. |
| 18 Não vos embriagueis com vinho, no qual está a luxúria, mas enchei-vos do Espírito Santo, | 18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; |
| 19 recitando entre vós salmos, hinos e canções espirituais, cantando e salmodiando ao Senhor com todo o vosso coração, | 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; |
| 20 dando sempre graças a Deus e Pai, por tudo, em nome de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo. | 20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; |
| 21 Sede submissos uns aos outros no temor de Cristo. | 21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. |
| 22 As mulheres sejam sujeitas a seus maridos, como ao Senhor, | 22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. |
| 23 porque o marido é cabeça da mulher, como Cristo é cabeça da Igreja, seu corpo, do qual ele é o Salvador. | 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. |
| 24 Assim como a Igreja está sujeita a Cristo, assim o estejam também as mulheres a seus maridos em tudo (o que não é contra a lei de Deus). | 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. |
| 25 Maridos, amai as vossas mulheres, como também Cristo amou a Igreja e por ela se entregou a si mesmo, | 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; |
| 26 para a santificar, purificando-a no batismo da água pela palavra, | 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, |
| 27 para apresentar a si mesmo esta Igreja gloriosa, sem mácula, nem ruga ou coisa semelhante, mas santa e imaculada. | 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. |
| 28 Do mesmo modo os maridos devem amar as suas mulheres, como ao seu próprio corpo. O que ama a sua mulher, ama-se a si mesmo. | 28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. |
| 29 Com efeito, ninguém aborreceu jamais a sua própria carne, mas nutre-a e cuida dela, como também Cristo o faz à Igreja, | 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: |
| 30 porque somos membros do seu corpo (místico). | 30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. |
| 31 Por isso deixará o homem seu pai e sua mãe e se unirá a sua mulher; e serão dois numa só carne (Gn. 2, 24). | 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. |
| 32 Grande mistério é este; eu o entendo em relação a Cristo e à Igreja. | 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. |
| 33 Por isso também cada um de vós (a exemplo de Cristo, que ama a sua Igreja) ame a sua mulher como a si mesmo, e a mulher respeite a seu marido. | 33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. |
