| 1 Três dias depois, celebraram-se umas bodas em Caná da Galileia, e encontrava-se lá a Mãe de Jesus. | 1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. |
| 2 Foi também convidado Jesus com seus discípulos para as bodas. | 2 Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. |
| 3 Faltando o vinho, a Mãe de Jesus disse-lhe; "Não têm vinho." | 3 When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine." |
| 4 Jesus respondeu-lhe: "Mulher, que nos importa a mim e a ti isso? Ainda não chegou a minha hora." | 4 (And) Jesus said to her, "Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come." |
| 5 Disse sua Mãe aos que serviam: "Fazei tudo o que ele vos disser." | 5 His mother said to the servers, "Do whatever he tells you." |
| 6 Ora estavam ali seis talhas de pedra, preparadas para a purificação judaica, que levavam cada uma duas a três metretas. | 6 Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings, each holding twenty to thirty gallons. |
| 7 Jesus disse-lhes: Enchei as talhas de água. Encheram nas até cima. | 7 Jesus told them, "Fill the jars with water." So they filled them to the brim. |
| 8 Então Jesus disse-lhes : "Tirai agora, e levai ao arquitriclino." Eles levaram. | 8 Then he told them, "Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter." So they took it. |
| 9 O arquitriclino, logo que provou a água convertida em vinho (ele não sabia donde viera, ainda que o sabiam os serventes, porque tinham tirado a água), o arquitriclino chamou o esposo, | 9 And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing where it came from (although the servers who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom |
| 10 e disse-lhe: "Todo o homem põe primeiro o bom vinho, e, quando já os convidados têm bebido bem, então lhes apresenta o inferior; tu, ao contrário, tiveste o bom vinho guardado até agora." | 10 and said to him, "Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now." |
| 11 Tal foi o primeiro milagre de Jesus; fê-lo em Caná da Galileia. Assim manifestou a sua glória, e os seus discípulos creram nele. | 11 Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in him. |
| 12 Depois disto, desceu para Cafarnaum, com sua Mãe, seus irmãos e seus discípulos; mas não se demoraram lá muitos dias. | 12 After this, he and his mother, (his) brothers, and his disciples went down to Capernaum and stayed there only a few days. |
| 13 Estava próxima a Páscoa dos Judeus, e Jesus subiu a Jerusalém. | 13 Since the Passover of the Jews was near, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. |
| 14 Encontrou no templo vendedores de bois, ovelhas e pombas, e os cambistas sentados às suas mesas. | 14 He found in the temple area those who sold oxen, sheep, and doves, as well as the money-changers seated there. |
| 15 Tendo feito um azorrague de cordas, expulsou-os a todos do templo, e com eles as ovelhas e os bois, deitou por terra o dinheiro dos cambistas e derribou as suas mesas. | 15 He made a whip out of cords and drove them all out of the temple area, with the sheep and oxen, and spilled the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables, |
| 16 Aos que vendiam pombas, disse: "Tirai daqui isto, não façais da casa de meu Pai casa de negócio." | 16 and to those who sold doves he said, "Take these out of here, and stop making my Father's house a marketplace." |
| 17 Então lembraram-se seus discípulos do que está escrito: O zelo da tua casa devorou-me (Ps. 68, 10). | 17 His disciples recalled the words of scripture, "Zeal for your house will consume me." |
| 18 Tomaram então a palavra os Judeus, e disseram-lhe: "Com que sinal nos mostras tu que tens autoridade para fazer estas coisas?" | 18 At this the Jews answered and said to him, "What sign can you show us for doing this?" |
| 19 Jesus respondeu-lhes: "Destruí este templo, e o reedificarei em três dias." | 19 Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up." |
| 20 Replicaram os Judeus: "Este templo foi edificado em quarenta e seis anos, e tu o reedificarás em três dias?" | 20 The Jews said, "This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and you will raise it up in three days?" |
| 21 Ora ele falava do templo de seu corpo. | 21 But he was speaking about the temple of his body. |
| 22 Quando, pois, ressuscitou dos mortos lembraram-se seus discípulos do que ele dissera, e creram na Escritura e nas palavras que Jesus tinha dito. | 22 Therefore, when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they came to believe the scripture and the word Jesus had spoken. |
| 23 Estando em Jerusalém pela festa da Páscoa, muitos creram no seu nome, vendo os milagres que fazia. | 23 While he was in Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, many began to believe in his name when they saw the signs he was doing. |
| 24 Mas Jesus não se fiava neles, porque os conhecia a todos, | 24 But Jesus would not trust himself to them because he knew them all, |
| 25 e não necessitava de que lhe dessem testemunho de homem algum, pois sabia por si mesmo o que há em cada homem. | 25 and did not need anyone to testify about human nature. He himself understood it well. |
