But I have called you friends: because all things whatsoever I have heard of my Father, I have made known to you. |
| 16 Não fostes vós que me escolhestes, mas fui eu que vos escolhi a vós, e vos destinei para que vades e deis fruto, e para que o vosso fruto permaneça, a fim de que tudo o que pedirdes a meu Pai em meu nome, ele vo-lo conceda. | 16 You have not chosen me: but I have chosen you; and have appointed you, that you should go, and should bring forth fruit; and your fruit should remain: that whatsoever you shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. |

| 18 Se o mundo vos aborrece, sabei que, primeiro do que a vós, me aborreceu a mim. | 18 If the world hate you, know ye, that it hath hated me before you. |
| 19 Se fosseis do mundo, o mundo amaria o que era seu; mas, porque não sois do mundo, antes eu vos escolhi do meio do mundo, por isso o mundo vos aborrece. | 19 If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. |
| 20 Lembrai-vos da palavra que eu vos disse: Não é o servo maior do que o senhor. Se eles me perseguirem a mim, também vos hão-de perseguir a vós; se guardaram a minha palavra, também hão-de guardar a vossa. | 20 Remember my word that I said to you: The servant is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have kept my word, they will keep yours also. |
| 21 Mas tudo isto vos farão por causa do meu nome, porque não conhecem aquele que me enviou. | 21 But all these things they will do to you for my name's sake: because they know not him who sent me. |
| 22 Se eu não tivesse vindo e não lhes tivesse falado, não teriam culpa, mas agora não têm desculpa do seu pecado. | 22 If I had not come, and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. |
| 23 Aquele que me aborrece, aborrece também meu Pai. | 23 He that hateth me, hateth my Father also. |
| 24 Se eu não tivesse feito entre eles tais obras, quais nenhum outro fez, não teriam culpa, mas agora viram-nas, e, contudo, odeiam-nos, a mim e a meu Pai. | 24 If I had not done among them the works that no other man hath done, they would not have sin; but now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father. |
| 25 Mas isto aconteceu para se cumprir a palavra que está escrita na sua Lei: Odiaram-me sem motivo (Ps. 34, 19 ; Ps. 68, 6). | 25 But that the word may be fulfilled which is written in their law: They hated me without cause. |
| 26 Quando, porém, vier o Paráclito, que eu vos enviarei do Pai, o Espirito da verdade, que procede do Pai, ele dará testemunho de mim. | 26 But when the Paraclete cometh, whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceedeth from the Father, he shall give testimony of me. |
| 27 E vós também dareis testemunho, porque estais comigo desde o princípio. | 27 And you shall give testimony, because you are with me from the beginning. |
