| 1 Seis dias antes da Páscoa, Jesus foi a Betânia, onde se encontrava Lázaro, que Jesus tinha ressuscitado. | 1 Jesus therefore, six days before the pasch, came to Bethania, where Lazarus had been dead, whom Jesus raised to life. |
| 2 Deram-lhe lá uma ceia. Marta servia, e Lázaro era um dos que estavam à mesa com ele. | 2 And they made him a supper there: and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that were at table with him. |
| 3 Então tomou Maria uma libra de bálsamo feito de nardo puro de grande preço, ungiu os pés de Jesus e enxugou-lhos com os seus cabelos; e a casa ficou cheia de perfume do bálsamo. | 3 Mary therefore took a pound of ointment of right spikenard, of great price, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. |
| 4 Judas Iscariotes, um dos seus discípulos, aquele que o havia de entregar, disse: | 4 Then one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, he that was about to betray him, said: |
| 5 "Porque se não vendeu este bálsamo por trezentos dinheiros, para se dar aos pobres?" | 5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? |
| 6 Disse isto, não porque se importasse com os pobres, mas porque era ladrão, e, tendo a bolsa, roubava o que se lançava nela. | 6 Now he said this, not because he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and having the purse, carried the things that were put therein. |
| 7 Mas Jesus respondeu: "Deixa-a; ela reservou este perfume para o dia da minha sepultura; | 7 Jesus therefore said: Let her alone, that she may keep it against the day of my burial. |
| 8 porque sempre tereis pobres convosco, mas a mim não me tereis sempre." | 8 For the poor you have always with you; but me you have not always. |
| 9 Uma grande multidão de Judeus soube que Jesus estava ali e foi lá, não somente por causa de Jesus, mas também para ver Lázaro, a quem ele tinha ressuscitado dos mortos. | 9 A great multitude therefore of the Jews knew that he was there; and they came, not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. |
| 10 Os príncipes dos sacerdotes deliberaram então matar também Lázaro, | 10 But the chief priests thought to kill Lazarus also: |
| 11 porque muitos Judeus, por causa dele, retiravam-se e criam em Jesus. | 11 Because many of the Jews, by reason of him, went away, and believed in Jesus. |
| 12 No dia seguinte, uma grande multidão de povo, que tinha ido à festa, ouvindo dizer que Jesus ia a Jerusalém, | 12 And on the next day, a great multitude that was to come to the festival day, when they had heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, |
| 13 tomou ramos de palmas, saiu ao seu encontro e clamava: "Hosana! Bendito o que vem em nome do Senhor, o rei de Israel." | 13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried: Hosanna, blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord, the king of Israel. |
| 14 Jesus encontrou um jumentinho, e montou em cima dele, segundo está escrito: | 14 And Jesus found a young ass, and sat upon it, as it is written: |
| 15 Não temas, filha de Sião; eis que o teu Rei vem montado sobre um jumentinho (Zc. 9, 9). | 15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy king cometh, sitting on an ass's colt. |
| 16 A princípio, os seus discípulos não compreenderam estas coisas, mas quando Jesus foi glorificado, então lembraram-se de que estas coisas tinham sido escritas dele e que eles mesmos tinham contribuído para o seu cumprimento. | 16 These things his disciples did not know at the first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things to him. |
| 17 A multidão que estava com ele, quando chamou Lázaro do sepulcro e o ressuscitou dos mortos, dava testemunho dele. | 17 The multitude therefore gave testimony, which was with him, when he called Lazarus out of the grave, and raised him from the dead. |
| 18 Por isso, lhe saiu ao encontro a multidão, porque ouviram dizer que tinha feito este milagre. | 18 For which reason also the people came to meet him, because they heard that he had done this miracle. |
| 19 Então os fariseus disseram entre si: "Vedes que nada aproveitais? Eis que todos correm atrás dele." | 19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves: Do you see that we prevail nothing? behold, the whole world is gone after him. |
| 20 Ora havia lá alguns Gregos, entre aqueles que tinham ido adorar a Deus durante a festa. | 20 Now there were certain Gentiles among them, who came up to adore on the festival day. |
| 21 Estes aproximaram-sé de Filipe, que era de Betsaida da Galileia, e fizeram-lhe este pedido: "Senhor, desejamos ver Jesus." | 21 These therefore came to Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying: Sir, we would see Jesus. |
| 22 Filipe foi dizê-lo a André; André e Filipe disseram-no a Jesus. | 22 Philip cometh, and telleth Andrew. Again Andrew and Philip told Jesus. |
| 23 Jesus respondeu-lhes: "Chegou a hora em que o Filho do homem será glorificado. | 23 But Jesus answered them, saying: The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. |
| 24 Em verdade, em verdade, vos digo, que se o grão de trigo, que cai na terra, não morrer, | 24 Amen, amen I say to you, unless the grain of wheat falling into the ground die, |
| 25 fica infecundo; mas, se morrer, produz muito fruto. O que ama a sua vida, perdê-la-á, e quem aborrece a sua vida neste mundo, conservá-la-á para a vida eterna, | 25 Itself remaineth alone. But if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world, keepeth it unto life eternal. |
| 26 Se alguém me quer servir, siga-me, e, onde eu estou, estará ali também o que me serve. Se alguém me servir, meu Pai o honrará. | 26 If any man minister to me, let him follow me; and where I am, there also shall my minister be. If any man minister to me, him will my Father honour. |
| 27 Agora a minha alma, está turbada. E que direi eu? Pai, livra-me desta hora. Mas é para isso que cheguei a esta hora. | 27 Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this cause I came unto this hour. |
| 28 Pai, glorifica o teu nome. " Então veio do céu esta voz: "Eu o glorifiquei e o glorificarei novamente." | 28 Father, glorify thy name. A voice therefore came from heaven: I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. |
| 29 Ora o povo, que ali estava e ouvira, dizia que linha sido um trovão. Outros diziam: Um anjo lhe falou." | 29 The multitude therefore that stood and heard, said that it thundered. Others said: An angel spoke to him. |
| 30 Jesus respondeu; "Esta voz não veio por amor de mim, mas por amor de vós. | 30 Jesus answered, and said: This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. |
| 31 Agora é o juízo deste mundo; agora será lançado fora o príncipe deste mundo. | 31 Now is the judgment of the world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. |
| 32 E eu, quando for levantado da terra, atrairei todos os homens a mim." | 32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all things to myself. |
| 33 Dizia isto para designar de que morte havia de morrer. | 33 (Now this he said, signifying what death he should die.) |
| 34 Respondeu-lhe a multidão: "Nós aprendemos da lei que o Cristo permanece eternamente; como dizes tu que o Filho do homem deve ser levantado? Quem é este Filho do homem?" | 34 The multitude answered him: We have heard out of the law, that Christ abideth for ever; and how sayest thou: The Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man? |
| 35 Jesus respondeu-lhes: "Ainda por um pouco de tempo está a luz convosco. Andai enquanto tendes a luz, para que não vos surpreendam as trevas; quem caminha nas trevas, não sabe onde vai. | 35 Jesus therefore said to them: Yet a little while, the light is among you. Walk whilst you have the light, that the darkness overtake you not. And he that walketh in darkness, knoweth not whither he goeth. |
| 36 Enquanto tendes a luz, crede na luz para que sejais filhos da luz." Jesus disse isto; depois retirou-se e escondeu-se deles. | 36 Whilst you have the light, believe in the light, that you may be the children of light. These things Jesus spoke; and he went away, and hid himself from them. |
| 37 Apesar de haver ele feito tantos milagres em sua presença, não criam nele, | 37 And whereas he had done so many miracles before them, they believed not in him: |
| 38 para se cumprir a palavra do profeta Isaías (Is. 53, 1), quando disse: Senhor, quem acreditou o que ouviu de nós? E a quem foi revelado o braço do Senhor? | 38 That the saying of Isaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he said: Lord, who hath believed our hearing? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? |
| 39 Por isso não podiam crer, porque Isaías disse também (Is. 6, 9-10): | 39 Therefore they could not believe, because Isaias said again: |
| 40 Tornou-lhes cegos os olhos, endureceu-lhes o coração, para que não vejam com os olhos, não compreendam com o coração, não se convertam e eu não os sare. | 40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart, that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. |
| 41 Isto disse Isaías, quando viu a sua glória e falou dele. | 41 These things said Isaias, when he saw his glory, and spoke of him. |
| 42 Todavia, mesmo entre os principais, muitos creram nele; mas, por causa dos fariseus, não o confessavam para não serem expulsos da sinagoga. | 42 However, many of the chief men also believed in him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, that they might not be cast out of the synagogue. |
| 43 Porque amaram mais a glória dos homens do que a glória de Deus. | 43 For they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God. |
| 44 Jesus levantou a voz e disse: "O que crê em mim, não crê em mim, mas naquele que me enviou. | 44 But Jesus cried, and said: He that believeth in me, doth not believe in me, but in him that sent me. |
| 45 Quem me vê a mim, vê aquele que me enviou. | 45 And he that seeth me, seeth him that sent me. |
| 46 Eu vim ao mundo como uma luz, para que todo o que crê em mim não fique nas trevas. | 46 I am come a light into the world; that whosoever believeth in me, may not remain in darkness. |
| 47 Se alguém ouvir as minhas palavras e não as guardar, eu não o julgo, porque não vim para julgar o mundo, mas para salvar o mundo. | 47 And if any man hear my words, and keep them not, I do not judge him: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. |
| 48 O que me despreza e não recebe as minhas palavras, já tem quem o julgue; a palavra que anunciei, essa o julgará no último dia. | 48 He that despiseth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him; the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. |
| 49 Com efeito, eu não falei por mim mesmo, mas o Pai que me enviou, ele mesmo me prescreveu o que eu devia dizer e ensinar. | 49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father who sent me, he gave me commandment what I should say, and what I should speak. |
| 50 Eu sei que o seu mandamento é a vida eterna. As coisas, pois, que digo, digo-as como meu Pai me disse. | 50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting. The things therefore that I speak, even as the Father said unto me, so do I speak. |
