| 1 Lembra-te, Senhor, do que nos aconteceu; olha e vê o nosso opróbrio. | 1 Remember, O Lord, what has befallen us. Consider and look kindly upon our disgrace. |
| 2 A nossa herança passou a estrangeiros, as nossas casas a estranhos. | 2 Our inheritance has been turned over to foreigners; our houses to outsiders. |
| 3 Somos órfãos sem pai; nossas mães são como viúvas. | 3 We have become orphans without a father; our mothers are like widows. |
| 4 A nossa água, por dinheiro a temos bebido; a nossa lenha, temo-la comprado. Com jugo ao pescoço, somos perseguidos; estamos esgotados, não temos descanso. | 4 We paid for our drinking water. We acquired our wood for a price. |
| 5 . | 5 We were dragged by our necks. Being weary, no rest was given to us. |
| 6 Estendemos a mão ao Egipto e aos Assírios para nos saciarmos de pão. | 6 We have given our hand to Egypt and to the Assyrians, so that we may be satisfied with bread. |
| 7 Nossos pais pecaram; já não existem, e nós é que suportamos o castigo das suas iniquidades. | 7 Our fathers have sinned, and are not. And we have carried their iniquities. |
| 8 Escravos dominaram-nos; ninguém nos livra da sua mão. | 8 Servants have become rulers over us. There was no one to redeem us from their hand. |
| 9 Com perigo das nossas vidas íamos buscar pão diante da espada do deserto. | 9 We obtained our bread at the risk of our lives, before the face of the sword, in the wilderness. |
| 10 A nossa pele queima-se (tomou-se negra) como um forno por causa dos ardores da fome. | 10 Our skin was burned, as if by an oven, before the face of the tempest of the famine. |
| 11 Desonraram as mulheres em Sião, as virgens nas cidades de Judá. | 11 They humiliated the women in Zion and the virgins in the cities of Judah. |
| 12 Foram pendurados pelas mãos os príncipes; não respeitaram a pessoa dos velhos. | 12 The leaders were suspended by their hand. They were not ashamed before the faces of the elders. |
| 13 Jovens foram obrigados a girar a mó, meninos caíram sob (fardos de) lenha. | 13 They have sexually abused the adolescents, and the children were corrupted in the wood. |
| 14 Os anciães retiraram-se das portas, os jovens deixaram a música. | 14 The elders have ceased from the gates, the youths from the choir of the psalms. |
| 15 Extinguiu-se a alegria do nosso coração; converteram-se em luto as nossas danças. | 15 The gladness of our heart has failed, our singing has been turned into mourning. |
| 16 Caiu a coroa da nossa cabeça; ai de nós, porque pecámos! | 16 The crown has fallen from our head. Woe to us, for we have sinned. |
| 17 Por isto o nosso coração tornou-se dolorido, por isto se escureceram os nossos olhos, | 17 Because of this, our heart became gloomy; for this reason, our eyes have been darkened: |
| 18 porque o monte de Sião foi assolado, e por ele passeiam os chacais. | 18 because of mount Zion, because it was ruined. Foxes have wandered upon it. |
| 19 Mas tu, Senhor, permaneces eternamente: o teu trono subsiste de geração em geração. | 19 But you, O Lord, shall remain for eternity, your throne from generation to generation. |
| 20 Por que razão te hás-de esquecer de nós para sempre? Por que nos hás-de desamparar definitivamente? | 20 Why would you forget us forever? Why would you forsake us for a long time? |
| 21 Converte-nos, Senhor, a ti, e nós nos converteremos; renova os nossos dias (felizes), como outrora. | 21 Convert us, O Lord, to you, and we shall be converted. Renew our days, as from the beginning. |
| 22 Ou rejeitaste-nos inteiramente, estás em excesso irritado contra nós? | 22 But you have utterly rejected us; you are vehemently angry against us. |
