VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
Ascendit ergo Moyses de campestribus Moab super montem Nebo, in verticem Phasga contra Jericho : ostenditque ei Dominus omnem terram Galaad usque Dan,1 Then, leaving the Plains of Moab, Moses went up Mount Nebo, the peak of Pisgah opposite Jericho,and Yahweh showed him the whole country: Gilead as far as Dan,
et universum Nephthali, terramque Ephraim et Manasse, et omnem terram Juda usque ad mare novissimum,2 the whole of Naphtali, the country of Ephraim and Manasseh, the whole country of Judah as far as theWestern Sea,
et australem partem, et latitudinem campi Jericho civitatis palmarum usque Segor.3 the Negeb, and the region of the Val ey of Jericho, city of palm trees, as far as Zoar.
Dixitque Dominus ad eum : Hæc est terra, pro qua juravi Abraham, Isaac, et Jacob, dicens : Semini tuo dabo eam. Vidisti eam oculis tuis, et non transibis ad illam.4 Yahweh said to him, 'This is the country which I promised on oath to give to Abraham, Isaac andJacob, saying: I shal give it to your descendants. I have al owed you to see it for yourself, but you wil not crossinto it.'
Mortuusque est ibi Moyses servus Domini, in terra Moab, jubente Domino :5 There in the country of Moab, Moses, servant of Yahweh, died as Yahweh decreed;
et sepelivit eum in valle terræ Moab contra Phogor : et non cognovit homo sepulchrum ejus usque in præsentem diem.6 he buried him in the val ey, in the country of Moab, opposite Beth-Peor; but to this day no one hasever found his grave.
Moyses centum et viginti annorum erat quando mortuus est : non caligavit oculus ejus, nec dentes illius moti sunt.7 Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, his eye undimmed, his vigour unimpaired.
Fleveruntque eum filii Israël in campestribus Moab triginta diebus : et completi sunt dies planctus lugentium Moysen.8 The Israelites wept for Moses on the Plains of Moab for thirty days. The days of weeping for themourning rites of Moses came to an end.
Josue vero filius Nun repletus est spiritu sapientiæ, quia Moyses posuit super eum manus suas. Et obedierunt ei filii Israël, feceruntque sicut præcepit Dominus Moysi.9 Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him, and himthe Israelites obeyed, carrying out the order which Yahweh had given to Moses.
Et non surrexit ultra propheta in Israël sicut Moyses, quem nosset Dominus facie ad faciem,10 Since then, there has never been such a prophet in Israel as Moses, the man whom Yahweh knewface to face.
in omnibus signis atque portentis, quæ misit per eum, ut faceret in terra Ægypti Pharaoni, et omnibus servis ejus, universæque terræ illius,11 What signs and wonders Yahweh caused him to perform in Egypt against Pharaoh, al his servantsand his whole country!
et cunctam manum robustam, magnaque mirabilia, quæ fecit Moyses coram universo Israël.12 How mighty the hand and great the fear that Moses wielded in the eyes of al Israel!
