Deuteronomium 18

VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Non habebunt sacerdotes et Levitæ, et omnes qui de eadem tribu sunt, partem et hæreditatem cum reliquo Israël, quia sacrificia Domini, et oblationes ejus comedent,	1 'The levitical priests, the whole tribe of Levi wil be without share or heritage of their own in Israel; theywil live on the foods offered to Yahweh and on his heritage.
2 et nihil aliud accipient de possessione fratrum suorum : Dominus enim ipse est hæreditas eorum, sicut locutus est illis.	2 Levi wil have no heritage of his own among his brothers; Yahweh will be his heritage, as he haspromised him.
3 Hoc erit judicium sacerdotum a populo, et ab his qui offerunt victimas : sive bovem, sive ovem immolaverint, dabunt sacerdoti armum ac ventriculum :	3 'This is what is due to the priests from the people, from those who offer an ox or a sheep in sacrifice:the priest must be given the shoulder, the cheeks and the stomach.
4 primitias frumenti, vini, et olei, et lanarum partem ex ovium tonsione.	4 You must give him the first-fruits of your wheat, of your new wine and of your oil, as wel as the first-fruits of your sheep-shearing.
5 Ipsum enim elegit Dominus Deus tuus de cunctis tribubus tuis, ut stet, et ministret nomini Domini, ipse, et filii ejus in sempiternum.	5 For Yahweh your God has chosen him from all your tribes to stand before Yahweh your God, to do theduties of the sacred ministry, and to bless in Yahweh's name -- him and his sons for al time.
6 Si exierit Levites ex una urbium tuarum ex omni Israël in qua habitat, et voluerit venire, desiderans locum quem elegerit Dominus,	6 'If a Levite living in one of your towns anywhere in Israel decides to move to the place chosen byYahweh,
7 ministrabit in nomine Domini Dei sui, sicut omnes fratres ejus Levitæ, qui stabunt eo tempore coram Domino.	7 he shal minister there in the name of Yahweh his God like al his fel ow Levites who stand ministering there in the presence of Yahweh,
8 Partem ciborum eamdem accipiet, quam et ceteri : excepto eo, quod in urbe sua ex paterna ei successione debetur.	8 eating equal shares with them -- what he has from the sale of his patrimony notwithstanding.
9 Quando ingressus fueris terram, quam Dominus Deus tuus dabit tibi, cave ne imitari velis abominationes illarum gentium.	9 'When you have entered the country given you by Yahweh your God, you must not learn to imitate thedetestable practices of the nations there already.
10 Nec inveniatur in te qui lustret filium suum, aut filiam, ducens per ignem : aut qui ariolos sciscitetur, et observet somnia atque auguria, nec sit maleficus,	10 There must never be anyone among you who makes his son or daughter pass through the fire ofsacrifice, who practises divination, who is soothsayer, augur or sorcerer,
11 nec incantator, nec qui pythones consulat, nec divinos, aut quærat a mortuis veritatem.	11 weaver of spells, consulter of ghosts or mediums, or necromancer.
12 Omnia enim hæc abominatur Dominus, et propter istiusmodi scelera delebit eos in introitu tuo.	12 For anyone who does these things is detestable to Yahweh your God; it is because of thesedetestable practices that Yahweh your God is driving out these nations before you.
13 Perfectus eris, et absque macula cum Domino Deo tuo.	13 'You must be faultless in your relationship with Yahweh your God.
14 Gentes istæ, quarum possidebis terram, augures et divinos audiunt : tu autem a Domino Deo tuo aliter institutus es.	14 For these nations whom you are going to dispossess have listened to soothsayers and mediums, butYahweh your God does not permit you to do this. From among yourselves, from among your own brothers,
15 Prophetam de gente tua et de fratribus tuis, sicut me, suscitabit tibi Dominus Deus tuus : ipsum audies,	15 Yahweh your God will raise up a prophet like me; you wil listen to him.
16 ut petisti a Domino Deo tuo in Horeb, quando concio congregata est, atque dixisti : Ultra non audiam vocem Domini Dei mei, et ignem hunc maximum amplius non videbo, ne moriar.	16 This is exactly what you asked Yahweh your God to do -- at Horeb, on the day of the Assembly,when you said, "Never let me hear the voice of Yahweh my God or see this great fire again, or I shal die."
17 Et ait Dominus mihi : Bene omnia sunt locuti.	17 Then Yahweh said to me,
18 Prophetam suscitabo eis de medio fratrum suorum similem tui : et ponam verba mea in ore ejus, loqueturque ad eos omnia quæ præcepero illi.	18 "What they have said is wel said. From their own brothers I shal raise up a prophet like yourself;
19 Qui autem verba ejus, quæ loquetur in nomine meo, audire noluerit, ego ultor existam.	19 I shal put my words into his mouth and he wil tel them everything I command him. Anyone whorefuses to listen to my words, spoken by him in my name, wil have to render an account to me.
20 Propheta autem qui arrogantia depravatus voluerit loqui in nomine meo, quæ ego non præcepi illi ut diceret, aut ex nomine alienorum deorum, interficietur.	20 But the prophet who presumes to say something in my name which I have not commanded him tosay, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet must die."
21 Quod si tacita cogitatione responderis : Quomodo possum intelligere verbum, quod Dominus non est locutus ?	21 'You may be privately wondering, "How are we to tel that a prophecy does not come from Yahweh?"
22 hoc habebis signum : quod in nomine Domini propheta ille prædixerit, et non evenerit : hoc Dominus non est locutus, sed per tumorem animi sui propheta confinxit : et idcirco non timebis eum.	22 When a prophet speaks in the name of Yahweh and the thing does not happen and the word is notfulfil ed, then it has not been said by Yahweh. The prophet has spoken presumptuously. You have nothing tofear from him.'
