1 Onus Ninive. Liber visionis Nahum Elcesæi.	1 Prophecy about Nineveh. Book of the vision of Nahum of Elkosh.
2 Deus æmulator, et ulciscens Dominus : ulciscens Dominus, et habens furorem : ulciscens Dominus in hostes suos, et irascens ipse inimicis suis.	2 Yahweh is a jealous and vengeful God, Yahweh takes vengeance, he is rich in wrath; Yahweh takesvengeance on his foes, he stores up fury for his enemies.
3 Dominus patiens, et magnus fortitudine, et mundans non faciet innocentem. Dominus in tempestate et turbine viæ ejus, et nebulæ pulvis pedum ejus.	3 Yahweh is slow to anger but great in power, Yahweh never lets evil go unpunished. In storm andwhirlwind he takes his way, the clouds are the dust stirred up by his feet.
4 Increpans mare, et exsiccans illud, et omnia flumina ad desertum deducens. Infirmatus est Basan et Carmelus, et flos Libani elanguit.	4 He rebukes the sea, dries it up, and makes all the rivers run dry. . . . Bashan and Carmel wither, thegreenery of the Lebanon withers too.
5 Montes commoti sunt ab eo, et colles desolati sunt : et contremuit terra a facie ejus, et orbis, et omnes habitantes in eo.	5 The mountains tremble before him, the hills reel; the earth col apses before him, the world and al wholive in it.
6 Ante faciem indignationis ejus quis stabit ? et quis resistet in ira furoris ejus ? Indignatio ejus effusa est ut ignis, et petræ dissolutæ sunt ab eo.	6 His fury -- who can withstand it? Who can endure his burning wrath? His anger pours out like fire andthe rocks break apart before him.
7 Bonus Dominus, et confortans in die tribulationis, et sciens sperantes in se.	7 Yahweh is better than a fortress in time of distress; he recognises those who trust in him
8 Et in diluvio prætereunte consummationem faciet loci ejus, et inimicos ejus persequentur tenebræ.	8 even when the flood rushes on; he wil make an end once and for al of those who defy him, and pursuehis foes into darkness.
9 Quid cogitatis contra Dominum ? Consummationem ipse faciet : non consurget duplex tribulatio,	9 What are your thoughts about Yahweh? He it is who makes a final end: his adversaries wil not rise upa second time;
10 quia sicut spinæ se invicem complectuntur, sic convivium eorum pariter potantium ; consumentur quasi stipula ariditate plena.	10 like a thicket of tangled brambles, like dry straw, they wil be burnt up completely. To Assyria
11 Ex te exibit cogitans contra Dominum malitiam, mente pertractans prævaricationem.	11 From you has emerged someone plotting evil against Yahweh, one of Belial's counsel ors. To Judah
12 Hæc dicit Dominus : Si perfecti fuerint, et ita plures, sic quoque attondentur, et pertransibit : afflixi te, et non affligam te ultra.	12 Yahweh says this: Unopposed and many though they be, they wil be cut down and pass away.Though I have made you suffer, I shal make you suffer no more,
13 Et nunc conteram virgam ejus de dorso tuo, et vincula tua disrumpam.	13 for now I shal break his yoke which presses hard on you and snap your chains. To the king ofNineveh
14 Et præcipiet super te Dominus ; non seminabitur ex nomine tuo amplius : de domo Dei tui interficiam sculptile, et conflatile ; ponam sepulchrum tuum, quia inhonoratus es.	14 As for you, this is Yahweh's decree: You wil have no heirs to your name, from the temple of your godsI shal remove carved image and cast image, and I shal devastate your tomb, for you are accursed!
15 Ecce super montes pedes evangelizantis, et annuntiantis pacem. Celebra, Juda, festivitates tuas, et redde vota tua, quia non adjiciet ultra ut pertranseat in te Belial : universus interiit.
