Amos 3

VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Audite verbum quod locutus est Dominus super vos, filii Israël, super omnem cognationem quam eduxi de terra Ægypti, dicens :	1 Listen, Israelites, to this prophecy which Yahweh pronounces against you, against the whole familywhich I brought up from Egypt:
2 Tantummodo vos cognovi ex omnibus cognationibus terræ ; idcirco visitabo super vos omnes iniquitates vestras.	2 You alone have I intimately known of all the families of earth, that is why I shal punish you for al yourwrong-doings.
3 Numquid ambulabunt duo pariter, nisi convenerit eis ?	3 Do two people travel together unless they have agreed to do so?
4 numquid rugiet leo in saltu, nisi habuerit prædam ? numquid dabit catulus leonis vocem de cubili suo, nisi aliquid apprehenderit ?	4 Does the lion roar in the forest if it has no prey? Does the young lion growl in his lair if it has caughtnothing?
5 numquid cadet avis in laqueum terræ absque aucupe ? numquid auferetur laqueus de terra antequam quid ceperit ?	5 Does a bird fall on the ground in a net unless a trap has been set for it? Will the net spring up from theground without catching something?
6 si clanget tuba in civitate, et populus non expavescet ? si erit malum in civitate, quod Dominus non fecerit ?	6 Does the trumpet sound in the city without the people being alarmed? Does misfortune come to a city ifYahweh has not caused it?
7 Quia non facit Dominus Deus verbum, nisi revelaverit secretum suum ad servos suos prophetas.	7 No indeed, Lord Yahweh does nothing without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets.
8 Leo rugiet, quis non timebit ? Dominus Deus locutus est, quis non prophetabit ?	8 The lion roars: who is not afraid? Lord Yahweh has spoken: who will not prophesy?
9 Auditum facite in ædibus Azoti, et in ædibus terræ Ægypti, et dicite : Congregamini super montes Samariæ, et videte insanias multas in medio ejus, et calumniam patientes in penetralibus ejus.	9 From the palace roofs of Assyria and from the palace roofs of Egypt, proclaim aloud, 'Assemble on thehil s of Samaria and observe the grave disorders inside her and the acts of oppression there!'
10 Et nescierunt facere rectum, dicit Dominus, thesaurizantes iniquitatem et rapinas in ædibus suis.	10 Little they know of right conduct -declares Yahweh- who cram their palaces with violence andextortion.
11 Propterea hæc dicit Dominus Deus : Tribulabitur et circuietur terra : et detrahetur ex te fortitudo tua, et diripientur ædes tuæ.	11 This is why -- Lord Yahweh says this- an enemy will soon besiege the land, he wil bring down yourstrength and your palaces wil be looted.
12 Hæc dicit Dominus : Quomodo si eruat pastor de ore leonis duo crura, aut extremum auriculæ, sic eruentur filii Israël, qui habitant in Samaria in plaga lectuli, et in Damasci grabato.	12 Yahweh says this: As the shepherd rescues two legs or the tip of an ear from the lion's mouth, so wilthe children of Israel be salvaged who now lol in Samaria in the corners of their beds, on their divans ofDamascus.
13 Audite, et contestamini in domo Jacob, dicit Dominus Deus exercituum ;	13 Listen and testify against the House of Jacob -declares the Lord Yahweh, God Sabaoth-
14 quia in die cum visitare cœpero prævaricationes Israël, super eum visitabo, et super altaria Bethel ; et amputabuntur cornua altaris, et cadent in terram.	14 the day when I punish Israel for his crimes I shal also punish the altars of Bethel; the horns of thealtar wil be hacked off and wil fal to the ground.
15 Et percutiam domum hiemalem cum domo æstiva, et peribunt domus eburneæ, et dissipabuntur ædes multæ, dicit Dominus.	15 I shall blast winter house with summer house, ivory houses wil be destroyed and many mansionscease to be -declares Yahweh.
